Kindness Barn Animal Sanctuary

Jam Jam really had a blast in the pasture today stirring up some impromptu fun with the guys.

The Mammoth Donkeys are both female (female donkeys are called “jennies”) and they like to change up the food service (and also hog it a little bit). Don’t worry, there is also chow in the covered feeder, along with fresh straw to munch on. Donkeys should eat more straw than hay because they eat A LOT. Since hay has more nutritional value than straw, eating only hay might make them fat. Donkeys originated in arid regions of the world where highly nutritious food was scarce so they developed into creatures that eat constantly. It has been interesting to see who would take top boss slot in the pasture. Donkeys are Number One. Cows are Number Two. I will tell you what number has been assigned to the pigs but I will have to whisper.... Let’s just say the pigs are fed in a separate location. That being said, the donkeys are also the protectors. No coyotes will stray into the property because they will be chased down by our pregnant donkeys. A regular sized donkey can kill a mountain lion.

Pigs and Pumpkins

Our local Post Office in Humansville used pumpkins for seasonal decorations. When asked, they agreed to donate those pumpkins to Kindness Barn Animal Sanctuary, so today the pigs ate like kings.
