🚨 Public Safety Announcement from Humboldt Police 🚨

××WILDLIFE RELATED××

Officers have responded to multiple calls regarding sick or disoriented raccoons in the area. We want to spread awareness about raccoon distemper, a contagious viral disease that affects raccoons and other wildlife.

⚠️ Signs of distemper in raccoons include:
✔️ Confusion or disorientation
✔️ Wandering aimlessly during the day
✔️ Eye discharge and nasal secretions
✔️ Aggressive or uncharacteristically tame behavior

While distemper does not pose a risk to humans, it can be deadly to unvaccinated pets (especially dogs). Please keep your pets up to date on vaccinations and avoid contact with sick wildlife.

If you see a raccoon displaying these symptoms, do not approach it. Instead, report it to local animal control or Humboldt PD.

Lyra is a happy, spunky girl who hasn't met a stranger yet. She will greet you with a smile and happy feet. Her current bestie is Keno (who is also up for adoption). She is a pleaser and will do anything for a treat. She is good with other dogs and simply loves to play and be around you.

She has been spayed, vaccinated, and dewormed. She has tested positive for heartworms which she will need treatment for. Despite this, Lyra is ready for love and ready for her forever home.

Meet Dyla– The Ultimate loving Lap Dog!

Dyla is a sweetheart who just wants to be by your side at all times! This sweet girl is only about 40 pounds with her petite self. She loves people of all kinds and literally just wants to be close to you. She has come along way from being found wandering the streets.

Dyla does well with other dogs and adores kids. She is good in a crate and we are working on potty training. We’re currently working on perfecting her leash-walking skills as well.

She has been spayed, vaccinated, and dewormed. She has tested positive for heartworms which she will need treatment for. Despite this, Dyla is full of love and ready for her forever home.

🐾❤️Weekly Wishlist!❤️🐾

Tomorrow we have several dogs heading to the vet to be altered. Donations towards these spay/neuter surgeries are always helpful and can be made directly to My Animal Hospital at 731-423-3332 under the Humboldt Animal Shelter. These are $90 but any amount can be donated!

Also, if anyone has a mini fridge they are no longer using and are willing to donate, it would be a huge help since our current one is no longer staying cool. We use it to store vaccines (generously donated by Save the Paws) to keep our dogs healthy. Keeping the vaccines cool is a must to ensure they work efficiently🤩

Rescue needed for this sweet girl we're calling Amora❤️‍🩹(Pictures in comments) Amora has been seen wandering the streets of Humboldt for several weeks. She's now safe at the shelter, but unfortunately, she has a severe skin condition that rubs raw very easily and needs medical attention. With the cold weather, her skin is struggling even more. She also has red, inflamed skin in-between her toes, possibly from urine burns, which causes her to often lifts her paws abnormally just to avoid the pain and discomfort😣 Even with all of her discomfort, Amora is incredibly sweet! She loves other dogs and enjoys being around people though she is a little timid and unsure at times and will often hide behind your legs to feel safe and secure❤️‍🩹 We're hoping to find a rescue who can give Amora the medical care and comfort she needs to heal and feel safe. Amora is fully grown and estimated to be around 1 year old. She is heart worm negative and has received her first shot + nexxguard. She's not a very tall girl at all and is likely wormy, which might explain why she doesn't look as thin as she actually is. Please let us know if you are a rescue that can help this sweet girl🫶 s
