Broderick came today, a Marine vet that was referred to me, by the Jackson VA and we chose his potential service dog. It was immediately clear what puppy was drawn to him, to someday be trained to detect his seizures. I can't wait to follow their story. Thank you for your service Broderick!

Breeding isn't always fun, wet kisses and puppy's breath. Breeding means doing everything you can to produce healthy, stable dogs. It's genetic testing, waiting for OFA results, vet visits, training, research and lots of time. It's hours and hours spent cleaning kennels, changing whelping pads and many late nights with sick or injured dogs. For me it's also volunteering to take in other dogs, dogs that are sick and abused, backyard puppies that selfish people produced, just to get a fast buck. And lastly is about making hard decisions for dogs. When something goes wrong, despite your genetic testing, despite the extensive vet exams on the parents, and the OFA testing. It happens, it happened today and I had to do the kind thing and let a puppy go. She was only 9 weeks old. This is the worst part of breeding, but sometimes it has to be done. RIP Tiny girl.

Our last litter, Echo's done being a momma and will spend the rest of her life just being a pet! Looks like we MIGHT have a pup with silver in this litter. 6 boys, 2 girls. Available end of January.

I was working on my tack room walls today when I had a bad fall. Stepped on some flooring, that flew out from under me, causing my feet to shoot backwards, and somehow I caught air. When I landed, I was on all fours like a dog. My back has a couple of bad vertebrae that have been really inflamed, so this landing really did a number on my spine. I called medic to me (while still on all fours, like a dog) into his heel position, told him up, and brace. Because of this, he was able to help stabilize me, so that I could stand. I was alone when it happened, so if he hadn't been trained to assist me, I could of been there for quite a while. Training pays off! My boy is so versatile in the tasks that he can do to help me, and is very in tune to my needs. What a good boy! Picture of him in church this past Sunday, just before he alerted me that I needed some extra antihistamines!

Hudson interacting with Medic. I explained to him how medic was feeling, having 2 females in heat and not being able to breed them. Hudson associated it with a headach lol!

Athena is home from spay, and that much closer to her official adoption day! With great nutrition and lowered stress, her clotting factors returned to normal, she was able to be successfully spayed and her stomach tacked. Unfortunately her Embark test revealed that she carries BOTH genetic markers for DM. She will most likely have a shorter life and at some point we will have to make that tough decision, (when her back legs will no longer support her.) But until then, she will live the life she's only dreamed of, be loved and treated like a k9 should be treated! In a couple of weeks we will continue her leash work, then progress to off leash work! As soon as she's clear of heartworm, we get to sign her adoption papers!

This is what breeding for nerve, temperament and stability, combined with proper training and desensitization get you. A stable, dog with good nerve. A dog that can do its job under stress, and still perform. A dog that you want by your side. This doesn't just happen, it takes work. It starts with breeding and continues after whelping and throughout the dogs lifetime.
