HELP STILL NEEDED! 1/13 Buddy update: Buddy’s owner contacted us requesting us to find a foster home for Buddy. There are a couple issues at hand here…. Van living is not ideal for a hospice dog. Secondly Buddy‘s owner took on an 8 week old puppy, which has been problematic for Buddy being in such close quarters.

We know this is a huge ask, but confident we can make magic happen for Buddy. We would cover all his medical and necessities costs until he’s ready to cross over. If you think you might be able to give this kid a safe warm place please complete a foster application online and we will be in touch! https://saferescueteam.org/foster-application/

We would prefer someone local or within close proximity to Huntington Beach, and please no negative comments! Buddy’s owner is watching this post and we would like this to be positive for Buddy’s sake.

Asking for the HELP of our village and our amazing community!

This sweet little man is Buddy. He is 8 years old and has advance stages of cancer, and soon (within the week) will need to be humanly euthanized.

His dad is unhoused and living in HB Central Park. SAFE Rescue Team has agreed to help with the cost when Buddy is ready to cross over. As if this isn’t bad enough, dad has 2 other dogs that desperately need medical care too, and he has asked us for help for them also.

We are a small bit mighty little rescue always willing to help when we can. We are asking for the help of our village and community to raise some funds to help us help Buddy and his family.

If your in the HB area, you can stop by Central Park, over by Central Library and meet Buddy 🤍

We could never do it alone! It legitimately takes a village! We are so grateful for all the compassionate humans that help to keep this rescue going every day! Thank you for being part of our small but mighty rescue in village, and the SAFE pack 🙌🏻

1/1/25 PUPDATE: We have just been notified that this kid has a rescue plan in place! The shelter wanted whichever rescue to take him and another dog at the same time. Unfortunately we were not able to commit to both of them (because we put a lot of planning into each rescue) so they went ahead and chose another rescue to take them both.

So much thanks and gratitude to everybody that jumped in to help support this small but mighty little rescue! You are so appreciated 🙏🏻🤍

EMERGENCY! Sharing post for help! He JUST came into City of Long Beach Animal Care Services like this! We will NEED medical pledges 🙏🏻 and a solid foster 🤍

I will post pictures of his leg in the comments, but two graphic to post on this thread 🤦🏻‍♀️

PUPDATE 🐶 Another rescued had already put in a pull request for this kid. He has left the building 🙌🏻 But fosters still needed so we can save more lives, the shelters are full!
+++++++++++

Our friend Penny shared this kid and he is speaking to us! He needs the help of our village! Who is open to fostering this little man? He will need a lift to our vet team so we can get him on track to healthy!

💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔

Leonard was adopted at a shelter when he was about 6 months old. He lived with the same family for 5 years, but on December 23, he was dumped at a kill shelter.

As I review the owner surrender notes, I see that Leonard has apparently never seen a vet in his 5 years outside of the shelter. He is neutered, but I think we can assume the shelter did that prior to his first exit.

Now Leonard's body is covered in a violet hue. It would appear they attempted to treat his itchiness with gentian violet. They did not mention that in their surrender notes, nor did they mention trying other remedies like seeing a vet. They claim that their reason for dumping him was that dogs are not allowed where they live. This is what we would call the classic Christmas dump. Odds are high that a new puppy was under their Christmas tree this year.

These comments came from the rescue coordinator, "Wagging tail when I approached his kennel. Eager for attention, took treats from me gently, easy to leash and walks well on leash. He appears completely unbothered by the gentian violet on his face and legs and though he's itchy, he was more interested in seeking out affection. Interested in dogs around him but not reactive. Easy return. Sweet dog."

Leonard has apparently had untreated problems with his ears, which may be related to his skin problem. His ear canals and pinna are thickened. His skin is raw, and he has some hair loss from constant scratching.

Leonard needs our help, Village. Although he is only on the Blue Alert, the shelter cannot give him the proper vetting he needs to solve his skin issues once and for all. And like any dog at the shelter, he is subject to kennel cough. A Blue Alert can easily change to an Orange Alert.

A Christmas Miracle! With the help of our amazing network and team, we sprung this girl from oc animal care this morning 🙌🏻

We were alerted to Remi just a little more than 24 hours ago! Even though she came into the pound on the 16th of December!
This is a girl we previously spayed, microchipped, and have helped out owner with Remi’s medical cost since December of 2018. Thankfully her chip was registered to us!

We don’t have the full story since she was brought in as a “Confiscation Case”, but we felt it was our obligation to make sure she got out of there before Christmas and into SAFE hands! And our promise to her is we will make sure she has the best and happiest forever after! She’s already had a well-deserved bath and blowout and comfy in her new foster mama‘s arms.

Welcome to the SAFE Rescue Team pack Remi and a very Merry Christmas to all 🤍

Sarah PUPDATE: On of our amazing volunteers drive to Carson to get Sarah, and there were two other families there to adopt her. One of the families ended up adopting. Just seeing this post and my heart bleeds for this perfect girl who lost her family! We NEED A SOLID FOSTER and she NEEDS a Christmas miracle!

Friends, I think we are talking about a PERFECT dog here. She has already received MANY MANY views, and yet as of 12/13, she is still at the shelter.

Here's what we know: Sweet Sarah is five and she was surrendered to the shelter when her owner moved to another country. They left a lot of details about her and they said she knows commands, she’s live with cats and large dogs. She’s crate trained. She’s lived with children. She’s very playful and tolerant of children. She loves to go in the car. She’s never barked or lunch at anything except maybe she’ll chase a squirrel if she feels like it. She knows sit, down, roll, hand and even smile to pose. She’s never been destructive and she’s gone on a jog every single day either five or 10 km. Her favorite thing is chasing the ball with treats and chewy bones and she loves a squeaky toy in the shape of a squirrel. She’s been on the Costco dog food diet and her owner says she is sweet. Will follow you your cat your child everywhere you go when you are on a hiking trail she will take care of the entire family. The owner has a one page bio available for her as well. That gives you a lot more details. This is a special dog whoever ever gets her willSaving Carson Shelter Dogs My Penny Cooperis SARAH and I'm an approximately 5 year old femalSAFE Rescue Team. Today was NOT your day to die my friend! Today we celebrate your life!

This little young-man was hit by a car, severely fractured leg and abrasions, landed at an already overcrowded shelter, no one came for him and his time ran out today.

Thankfully with the support of this amazing rescue village, a foster raised her hand, an amazing networker jumped in to help us try to raise some funds, and an amazing donor offered to help.

Welcome to the SAFE pack Skipper (name will be changed 🤦🏻‍♀️) He was picked up from the shelter and dropped off this morning to our AMAZING orthopedic team Sevilla Veterinary Hospital having emergency surgery 🙏🏻🤍 Thank you

Yep this really happened today 🤦🏻‍♀️

This 3/mo old little baby boy was surrendered to us today after battling parvo. Unfortunately, when he arrived, I could tell he was still very sick, lots of phlegm and rattling in his chest. I suspected (and it was confirmed) he has pneumonia. He is now with our vet team and can use some prayers and good energy sent his way!

If you would care to donate or contribute to his ongoing care we would be so grateful. Pneumonia is serious stuff for a puppy 😭

Yes we did a little thing to start off the holiday season…

This little 11 year old lady found herself at City of Long Beach Animal Care Services. She was confiscated after her momma died unexpectedly. She had already been there a week and no one was coming for her! One of our beautiful heart fosters saw her and couldn’t resist offering to give her a soft warm place to land. So please help us welcome Charlotte to the SAFE pack!

It’s heartbreaking to think that so many of these animals will be on a cold hard floor and familyless for the holidays 💔 If you can open your home to fostering, please consider fostering for us. If you’re unable to foster, please consider donating so we can continue our mission to help as many as we can. There are just SO MANY IN DESPERATE NEED!

3 new shelter intervention intakes!

Danny and Sandy are 9 week old babes that came from a litter of 9, and accidental litter 🤦🏻‍♀️ Mama was a Golden Retriever, daddy unknown. Unfortunately, they were kept in a boarding facility situation and are already fighting coccidia and giardia. The last thing we needed or wanted were puppies, but a few other local rescues jumped in and if we all just took a couple, we could help with this very bad situation.

And our third kid came to us today his name is Goose. He is an 8 month old cavadoodle, in desperate need of structure and training.

It seems like every other phone call or text these days is to surrender a pet or desperate help for a dog in need. We are absolutely busting at the seams, financially burdened, tired, and overwhelmed! We are doing the best we can with medical dogs, sick puppies, seniors, while still navigating our daily logistics.

We need HELP! We need fosters, adopters, donations, help with transport. If you feel you might be able to help give back please help us to help them 🙏🏻

Hot off the press! Great article regarding the reality and current situation at OC Animal Care 🤦🏻‍♀️ Written by a brilliant local animal advocate and human being, Michael Mavrovouniotis. https://app.box.com/s/fsr6yvzjqqnrqcl52qp8movedutdbxl7

OC animal care is a county facility funded by OUR tax dollars, and functioning on a $28 million a year budget. Yet a black hole and death sentence for animals, not to mention zero support for low cost or free spay and neuter programs in the cities it serves!

This is a pic of River. He is a recent oc survivor 🙌🏻 Sprung by SAFE Rescue Team after being hit by a car, made to stay for 3 days stray hold, then tagged for euthanasia due to injuries.

Change is needed!
