Have you ever been really stressed about accomplishing something, then, you nail it and feel great? That is what the goal of confidence building is for dogs. Learning how to work through and overcome stress in unfamiliar situations.
This was Gary’s lesson focusing on confidence building and socialization. He nailed it!!

If you have a fearful, nervous, or reactive dog think of your walk as training opportunity but do not think of it as fulfilling exercise for them.
If your dog is fearful, nervous, or reactive on your daily walks chances are they are not having a great time. Give them an outlet that fulfills them. Fetch, tug, off-leash time (or long line if they are not off-leash trained), flirt-pole.
If you are struggling with your dog on the walk hire a professional to help bring peace back into your walk and find a fulfilling outlet for you and your pooch!

Lesson two with Tucker!
His parents have done a great job at teaching him a lot! We are helping them streamline the communication to make it more clear for Tucker to understand what is expected.
👏🏼👏🏼 for the good boy!

In 2022 we decided to open Mountain Mutts! Amidst working full time and part time jobs we still wanted to slowly start to grow in our community, and I think we did just that!!
We are very thankful for each and every one of our clients. For allowing us to help you and your pup build a better relationship! We have had so much fun and learned from each and every one of you.
We are starting 2023 with a break. A break to revamp some of our packages. A break to maybe offer some new, exciting things (YAY). A break to talk about what worked and what didn’t work. And most importantly a break to travel and learn more so we can help more dogs and their owners. We will still be scheduling evaluations at this time, and anyone interested in booking a program will be booked end of March into April.
Thank you for an amazing first year of business!!
✨Tips to keep your pup safe during the holidays✨
With the holiday season quickly approaching we often see a rise in the number of dogs being rehomed, surrendered to a shelter, or needing behavioral rehab assistance due to a number of reasons. Be your dogs #1 advocate and keep them safe with these easy tips. These can be for any dog, from nervous to happy-go-lucky!!
1. Utilize a Crate: If your dog is properly crate trained put them in their crates before guests arrive with an enrichment toy or safe chew.
2. Tether Decompression: Start practicing tether decompression now!! All you need is a leash and a flat collar. Start having your dog wear the leash and collar around the house, and throughout the day tether your dog to a stationary item. Keep them tethered until they relax (nose-to-tail on the ground). Start in a low distraction setting, like when you are watching tv, and work up to having your dog settle around distractions. This is going to teach your dog to settle on their own!! Make sure to have guests ignore your dog (no touch or no talk).
3. Place Command: If your dog can hold a “place” have them go to their designated place area while you have guests coming in and out, socializing, and eating. Make sure to tell your guests to ignore your dog (no touch, no talk). You can also use a tether to ensure your dog will not break place.
All of these above will ensure that your dog is not able to door dash, jump all over guests, counter surf, or be put in an uncomfortable situation around guests that may cause them to act out.

This is Kido! She enrolled in our 5 week program for dog reactivity. We’ve spent some time working up her basic obedience and engagement. The last couple lessons we’ve worked her around one of our dogs at a distance. During yesterdays training we decided it was time to challenge her and WOW did she rise to the occasion!
“She’s never been this close to a dog without barking her head off”.
We knew you had it in you, Kido!
Cash is entering ✨adolescence✨
He’s discovering the world around him is more interesting and listening should be optional. We are showing him learning and making good choices can be fun and rewarding!

Chanel had her last lesson today! She completed the 10-week program! In that time we were able to accomplish manners, on-leash obedience, and lay an off-leash obedience foundation. I’m so happy with her progress, and I hope I get to see more of Chanel in the future!

This sweet girl has been off for three weeks, so we decided to start back in full swing. We challenged her with lots of distractions, as well as, worked on some confidence building. I’m so proud of her and her momma!

Demo dog Roo is showing his off-leash skills. Roo loves sniffing and engaging with the environment but when it comes down to it he loves working with me more because of the solid relationship and foundation we have built.
You may ask: Where do I even begin? With having your dog on-leash. All foundations start on a leash. A trainers most powerful tool is a leash!!
Do you want your dog to have more off-leash freedom? Need help setting the foundation? Let us help!
