WHO WE ARE:

We are a small 100% volunteer run, foster home based organization (with a small indoor/outdoor kennel at home base) located in Huntington, WV, and immediate surrounding tri-state area of WV, KY, OH. We spay/neuter, provide medical care, food and all other necessities. Each dog in our care is loved as a family member by our foster families

and integrated into our daily lives where we get to know their personalities to match them with the best possible forever home. In addition to our rescue and re-homing efforts, we strive to increase positive public awareness, protect dog’s labeled “pit bull” from discrimination, and the importance of treating each dog as an individual, regardless of breed or physical appearance. RCBB also provides assistance to help reduce the number of dogs being surrendered to shelters and rescues through our spay/neuter assistance programs and helping families facing breed discrimination issues. RCBB promotes compassion and responsibility in our community towards all animals. Interested in adopting?

*We DO NOT adopt out unaltered dogs, every dog that is in our program is spayed/neutered, so please do not ask!

*We DO NOT adopt out any of our dogs to homes who have an invisible fence, this is a NON-NEGOTIABLE. Please send inquires to [email protected] for an application. Once your application is approved a volunteer will contact you to set up a home-based meet and greet with the dog you are interested in. Our goal is to make the best possible match so if all goes well we will then set up a home visit and ask that a two week trial period be given to determine if the dog is a good fit for your family. RCBB does not want anyone to feel pressured to keep a dog they don't have a good connection with. (The full amount of the adoption fee will be reimbursed during this 2-week trial period.) If you decided that the dog is a good fit, a contract will then be signed and finalized. (The process time can vary depending on volunteer availability)

*Applicant must have approval from landlord if renting.

*We adopt to INDOOR homes only.

* Our "pit bull" dogs: We DO NOT adopt out in areas with Breed Discriminatory laws, including within the city limits of Huntington (restrictions) or Barboursville (restrictions), Ceredo (ban), Kenova (ban), Bluefield (ban), Dunbar (restrictions), Montgomery (restrictions), Fayetteville (restrictions) WV....Rome Township in Proctorville, OH (ban), Flatwoods, KY (restrictions). NO EXCEPTIONS!

*We require a home based meet and greet, so must be within reasonable driving distance of Huntington, WV. Typically no more than 50-60 miles, but we occasionally make exceptions for older dogs. ADOPTION FEES: $175 puppies under 1 year of age, $150 adults over 1 year of age and $100 for dogs 7 years and older, special circumstances, fees are $200. This fee go towards the necessary medical care of our dogs. Our costs include dhppl and rabies vaccinations, spay/ neuter, de-worming, 4DX test for dogs over 6 months (to check for heartworm and tick borne illness), flea & heart worm preventative, microchip with free lifetime registration and often additional medical or surgical procedures for dogs who have been abused/neglected. Another pup, approximately 10 weeks old found on a road (semi-rutal area)! 🤬 Thankfully she didn't get hit! She is very thin, her gums are pale (parasites no doubt), and her poor belly is wrecked. The irresponsibility of people and the abandonment rates are beyond my comprehension. 🤬🤯

We named her Neva. Does anyone want to foster or foster to adopt this sassy little lady? (it has already been over a week and there's been no signs anyone is missing her)

The hotel doors are closed until further notice, so we need people willing to open their hearts and homes so we can take these babies into our program.

We provide food and supplies for fosters. Must be close to Huntington WV (but reside outside of city limits due to breed discriminatory ordinance) for vetting purposes. Current dogs in the home must be spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccines. Indoor homes only! Must be able to foster until forever home is found. We receive a check quarterly that is anywhere from $1,300-$1,600 on average. Last quarter (August-November) resulted in $1,548.35 being donated!

🐾 ADOPT ME 🐾

Rubeus

This sweet bebe boy is the last of his litter waiting for a home (Alvie & Figgy), he's 4.5-ish months old and weighs around 18lbs. He's the smallest of the boys and has a little catching up to do, but he's getting there and it is time to find his forever family! We are unsure of breed mix, however it's safe to say he will be medium to possibly large when full grown.

Rubeus is the most affectionate of the boys! He is a shadow puppy, who of course does well with other dogs, but prefers to be with his people. He just wants to be held and cuddle.

He's doing great in his crate, but no he's not house trained, he is just a wee babe, but he picks up fast on routine and just started to gain decent bladder and bowel control, so we will be working on it.

We have several FELINE spay and neuter appointments for NEXT Monday, February 17th. MUST be able to drop off/pick up at The Fix'em Clinic in Charleston. MCR will cover the cost of the surgery and a rabies vaccine. Any other services would be the responsibility of the owner.

Posting again because FB severely limited our views yesterday.

🐾 HOBBS PUPDATE 🐾

2/6- Hobbs was dropped off for surgery, however, the vet decided against plates and screws after determining that the leg had already started to calcify. He opted for a hard splint, Hobbs was also neutered. He's not thrilled about the cone, but otherwise doing well.

Our total for his vetting so far is $847. That leaves us $500 from what was raised. This will help complete his vetting and go towards his splint follow ups. THANK YOU! 💗 We go for his first follow up this Friday back with Dr.Ayers and will get a better idea on how long he may need to have the splint.

Thankfully, Hobbs should lead a normal happy life, even though his leg might be just a little shorter than the others. Hobbs isn't ready to leave foster immediately, however, we are actively looking for a potential home! Please contact us if you'd like to meet him!

2/4- Meet Hobbs, our newest squishy bebe boy. He was found on the side of the road by a police officer who took him home, and then found his way to us. Sadly, an adult dog was hit and killed on the road, along with another young pup. He too was most likely hit by a car or possibly thrown from a vehicle. He has older wounds on his face that are starting to heal, but also has some road rash on his belly and other various places on his body. He has a serious fracture to his right leg and requires surgery, he needs plates in order to heal properly. Poor baby is only around 4 months old. He's been posted as found and the shelter notified, but I doubt anyone is looking.

Our veterinary hospital no longer does this kind of procedure, but our wonderful vet Dr. Ayers discussed it with a colleague, Dr. Dyer with Proctorville Hospital, who has agreed to do it and can get him in Thursday morning. Our bill today was $360 and his surgery is estimated to be approximately $2,100- $2,300. We will have fundraisers soon to help with the costs. I'll have invoices in hand Thursday to post if anyone would like to contribute towards his care.

You can also call Ayers Animal Hospital to donate directly to our account (River Cities Bully Buddies) if you prefer! (304)529-6049. I'll ask Proctorville Hospital if they'll allow people to call donations in on the day of surgery, we are not regular clients with an account, so I'm not sure.

Figgy started a trial period with an already one time RCBB adopter. He's settling in quite nicely and Gidget (aka Sundy) is accepting him so far. As always though, fingers and paws crossed for our baby boy! 🩵

🐾 ADOPT ME 🐾 Alvie weighed in at 17.5 the vet last week. He's a little skinny in the hind end, needs to build some muscle, but with time, good nutrition and exercise, he'll be right where he should be. He is otherwise a healthy, happy pup! Alvie and his siblings (some sadly did not survive), were found abandoned on a mountain alone, therefore we have no idea of breed mix. Best guess is some kind of bully breed/Heinz 57 mix. He is beautiful! Approximately 14 weeks old and will most likely be medium to large when fully grown. They have been introduced to crating and doing great, they still have a long way with house training as they are still wee babes. As you can see Alive enjoys toys, and will stop what he's doing to get some belly rubs! He is being fosterd with other dogs, and young children. To end 2024 we welcomed Alvie, Figgy (in video), Comet & Razzle to the family! These boys are so sweet and smart! Within a few days I have them in a routine, they go willingly into their crates for a treat. They are quiet at night, and clean. They are approximately 14 weeks old, and are survivors! Sadly, some of their litter mates froze to death before a kind man found them in the woods abandoned alone. 💔🤬 Thank you Stella for taking them all in, and taking such good care of them until rescue/homes could be found! They were sooooo excited about their new toys today! These boys have already started their vetting and watched for illness/disease. We will post soon to start accepting applications! We also still have our three 8 month old pups Buttercup, Rosie and Pebbles who have been waiting literally their entire lives for a home! #fosteringmatters #rivercititesbullybuddies

Star (dark brindle) enjoys some gentle playtime with her foster mates. She's awesome with dogs around her size (male and female in video- not up for adoption, they are our family dogs). No high energy requirements, but appreciates light activities on occasion. Yes, our yard looks awful, this is life with many dogs (and recent flooding). Can't have nice things ..sigh.....😆 Thanks to some generous friends/supporters, Star's adoption fee is now only $100! Star spends most of her time lounging in the yard, soaking up the sunshine. If you are looking for a low maintenance companion, Star just might be your gal! Star STILL waits.....it has been 8 months with us, and several months in the shelter prior. As far as we know, she has never had a loving home to call her own (her foster family loves her, but we are meant only to be a temporary stop on her journey to forever family). She was seized from a horrific situation, were she was clearly used over and over again for breeding, starved, abused and neglected. Despite all she's endured, she has been a darn near perfect house guest! Star is a happy girl who enjoys having a plush bed, blankets, sunbathing in the yard, and a kind hand. She is extremely low maintenance! There has to be someone out there who will give this beautiful Momma the home, love and companionship she deserves! 🐾 ADOPT ME 🐾 Star This gorgeous gal is approximately 5 years old, and weighs around 55lbs. She is the best girl! 🐾 ADOPT ME 🐾 CC, (but we also call him Pig Pen on occasion- from Charlie Brown, lol) he turned 2 years old in May, and weighs 33lbs. He is an action packed hilarious little guy! 🩵Adorable little egg roll 🩵Bursting with personality 🩵Lap size 🩵Friendly 🩵Goofy 🩵Playful 🩵Outgoing/enthusiastic 🩵Bundle of energy 😆Mischievous 🩵Comic relief 🩵Ready for adventure 🤔Dog social but can be rough in play (often time I need to step in) 😬Crate trained for the most part, not fully house trained 💥 He appears to have a slight vision impairment in low light situations (he will run into the crate door, go the wrong direction, walk into the wall down dark hallways, walk beside his crate versus walking in, etc ...) CC is all Bull Terrier! Clownish, quirky, rowdy, energetic, stubborn (but still a very good boy)! No small children as he easily gets overstimulated and has the tendency to get nippy. Hence the name CC (chewy chomp), lol. We have no idea how he is with cats or other smaller animals. He does well with his foster pals both male and female most of the time, however, he can be extremely rough/rambunctious in play and can be difficult to redirect. Often I have to step in to stop his relentless torment or so things don't escalate. CC also guards his food from other dogs, so feeding separately is a must, he has been known to guard empty food bowls as well, so feeding is in the crate and then all bowls put up. He would also be excellent as an only dog. CC came from a cruelty case, but despite the horrors he endured/witnessed he is a happy, exuberant boy who enjoys sunbathing, military crawl dragging his belly across the grass, rolling in dirt, and butt scritches. He however, is not doing great with house training, most likely due to the conditions he lived in. He will eventually catch on and has shown improvement. This clown can be vocal at times, especially to let you know when he wants (demands, lol) something. Chewy ride

Meet Zira, we welcomed this magnificent girl a few weeks ago to the hotel. She is awesome and breath takingly beautiful! She weighed in at 85lbs, and the vet couldn’t really good look at her chompers through all the excitement, but her teeth appear to be in great condition, little build up from what I can see, so she is young, between 1-2 years old (she of course has already had a litter or two). We will get a better guesstimate at spay appointment (awaiting a date). What we know so far, she has mingled well with dogs 40-60lbs in foster, she is super playful, but she can be intimidating to the others, especially when she gets the zoomies, and WOW this girl can move for her size! Small humans seem to weird her out. She is crate trained, but tends to let herself out if she feels the need. Girl can eat and tends to be a bit slobbery, lol! She is affectionate, silly, enjoys belly and chest rubs. Zira is not available for adoption at this time. Watch for updated bio in a few weeks and surgery date soon, she will also require a cherry eye correction while under for spay. #fosteringmatters
