CARING FOR ANIMALS SINCE 1927
631.368.8770

Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center is a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter nestled on six wooded acres in Huntington, Long Island. Included on the grounds is Sheltervale Pet Cemetery, which has been the final resting place for companion animals for more than 80 years. Suffolk County’s oldest humane organization, Little Shelter has been dedi

cated to saving abandoned dogs and cats and placing them into loving homes since 1927. Age, physical condition, and socialization issues are never criteria for rescuing a dog or cat whose life is in jeopardy. Most of our companion animals have been saved from kill shelters on Long Island, in New York City, and in several southern states. As a member of the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, Little Shelter is regularly called upon by the city’s municipal shelters to take their dogs and cats in need of rehabilitation. All Little Shelter pets receive the highest quality medical care and are spayed /neutered before adoption. Every potential adopter is interviewed and thoroughly screened to ensure the best quality homes. To extend our mission of finding loving homes for all dogs and cats, Little Shelter has implemented the One Call Saves One Life program. Through this initiative, we ask all animal lovers to make one phone call to encourage one friend or relative to save one animal’s life by adopting a shelter pet and by relaying the adoption message to someone else. With the help of One Call spokesperson Richard Belzer, individuals as well as shelters have spread this lifesaving message. Our FACEBOOK GUIDELINES: We love hearing from our Facebook friends. Please post your photos, questions, comments, news bits and article links so we can all enjoy. However, we do prohibit and reserve the right to remove cross-posting ads for products, services or for non LSAR pets. To keep the page from getting muddled, we remove any posts that ask our readers to vote in contests, sign petitions, 'like my page' or to send money. We also remove posts that have wrong information, severe accusations, or other negative commentary. The page is used to promote LSAR events and our pets and if general conversation is not vital to the page or our supporters we will delete the post. Should you have specific or immediate questions it is best to call our general line as that will be answered more quickly than a Facebook post. Thank you for understanding, and thank you for your support!

STAY SAFE FRIENDS!!! Due to the inclement weather Little Shelter will be closed for the day tomorrow Sunday February 9 2025 and will reopen Monday February 10, 2025 from 1PM-7PM .
Please keep an eye on your pets! If you can, keep them inside, but certainly make sure their collars and tags are on. Little dogs can get lost in the deep snow and larger dogs can use it as a chance to jump fences they otherwise wouldn’t be able to.
For any animal related emergencies please contact you local SPCA. STAY SAFE EVERYONE.

MEET GIZZY

Thriving on tenderness, appreciation, encouragement, and butt scratches, meet Gizzy, a ten-year-old Shih Tzu mix. An impartial judge of character, once you earn her trust, you’ll find her to be warm, affectionate and good-hearted. A girly girl, she loves to dress the part and prance down the walking path (aka runway!), showing off her impeccable style. Despite being visually challenged, she’s fiercely independent, enjoying exploratory walks guided by her other senses and the sound of your voice. With a resilient spirit and the soul of a warrior, Gizzy has proven she can handle anything life throws her way. Now she’s ready for the challenging task of screening potential adopters to find her forever home, confident she’ll have her happily ever after. You’ll want to be first in line to meet this little force of nature…ask for Gizzy!
Gizzy is looking for that special home that realizes that adopting is about the animal in need, and she is in need. This special little girl deserves to live out her golden years in a home that will never let her down again. Call 631-368-8770 x21 for more information on this precious pooch.

Gifts made by December 31st are deductible in the current year and will reduce taxes.
Giving long term, appreciated property may bring greater tax savings.
Giving through wills, trusts and other financial planning vehicles can be convenient and economical.

Many people review their overall estate and financial plans at the end of the year to achieve maximum giving and tax savings.

There are many ways to make bequests and donations. A gift can consist of almost anything-money, bank accounts, securities, works of art or real estate.

If a gift is to take effect after your lifetime, it may be contained in either your will or your trust, depending upon the structure of your estate plan.

We suggest that you discuss various options with your attorney. We will be happy to assist you and your advisors with your plans to fulfill your charitable goals.
We strongly encourage you to visit Little Shelter in person and learn more about our valuable, life saving programs.

MEET SAGE

An Alabama native, Sage, a seven-year-old Pit/Pointer mix, was adopted from Little Shelter as a puppy in 2017. Sadly, after her owner fell on hard times, Sage was returned at the age of six in 2023. Still waiting for her forever home, Sage spends her days chasing tennis balls and dreams.

This sweetly savory girl loves long walks, running free on the hill, and water sports. She is completely obsessed with tennis balls and is trying to break the Guinness World Record for how many she can hold in her mouth at the same time, the current title being six! Having already mastered the perfect “sit”, and “paw”, she also recently learned how to give a resounding “high five”!

A real people “person”, Sage has an extroverted demeanor and interacts well with humans. However, she does exhibit a high prey drive and has a history of being reactive towards other four-legged, making it necessary for her to be the only pet in the household. Promising to be everything you’re looking for, she is happy, loyal, and affectionate. Equally the ideal workout partner and the perfect one to cuddle up with, Sage is the full package and would thrive in the right setting.

So, if you have an active lifestyle, an unlimited supply of tennis balls, and would like to help Sage achieve both the world record and her dream of a forever home, please stop by and inquire about this very good girl. We’re rooting for both of you!
