Well it is no suprise it is kitten season!

All of our local shelters and rescues are dealing with the onslaught of calls about kittens.

This bakers dozen, 13, are a result of multiple litters, 4-6 weeks old, and they are sick!

We are lucky that we caught them in time. A very well intentioned kind-hearted senior couple could not keep up with the TNR and they have an explosion of kittens an 20-30 adults. It doesn’t take much.

The challenge becomes one of funds for most and it becomes too daunting.

We will be announcing a fundraising matching grant from the Community Cats Grants Program, administered by United Spay Alliance, on May 25th.

We hope to raise $2000 in donations and receive a matching grant capped at $2000. This will allow us to provide a 2 for 1 TNR while the funds last.

Donations will be accepted starting May 25th. It is our hope that other donors may also step up with offers of matching grants as well.

Caretakers will have the opportunity to donate as well and have their donation earmarked for cats in their colonies.

Thank you for supporting us and all of the great local shelters and rescues🐾

This is a true Cinderella story, and her name is Lena!

Remember Lena and who Dave came all the way from Maryland to adopt her. She was the Rescue we took in was 4 pounds missing hair and cared for by the wonderful folks at the Pet Vet Animal Clinic and Mobile Practice, Ltd.

This past weekend Lena entered her first ever cat show in Timonium M.D. Dave didn't know what to expect but he really wanted just to tell Lena's story.

In Lena's category there were 35 cats and 34 on Sunday. There were 6 rings for household cats totaling 12 individual judging over 2 days. Cats had traveled to the event from Connecticut, Florida, Indiana, Arkansas, California and even Hong Kong.

Lena was a true rockstar. With nothing better than Dave’s amateur attempt at grooming and both of them being rookies, she made it to 25% of her finals of 15 cats each. Her first final was 14th, the second was 12th and she scored an 11th in her last final. In points in one show she made almost 25% of the points she needs to get a grand status.

The pictures are of the judges, and there is a young gentleman spectator, who really loved Lena!

Who would ever have imagined!🐾❤️🐾

Trojan is actually fat and still sassy little fatter than we’d like. He’s not adapting to shelter life and wants nothing to do with people so we are going to release him back to the area that he lives in.

While some question why don’t we place them in a barn home? The reality is that he knows where to find a food source and his fighter flight areas for safety. He would have to relearn all of that at a new place. Releasing him back in his familiar habitat, gives him the best chance of survival .

02/14/2024

Trojan is ready to leave the vet!

We will need to make a difficult decision, one with only his best interests at heart. Ideally we would love to find him an indoor home with a adults that would be willing to work with him to gain his trust. The other options are to release him back to his familiar territory or place him in a barn home where he will need to learn new safe places and food source.

Was he a traveler in the engine of a car and ended up where found we just do not know.

In the mean time if anyone is up for the challenge of working with him please reach out to us.

Meet Trunks🐾
She is about 7 years young.

She is currently at McHenry County Animal Control due to bad potty manners and they are hoping to find her a heated barn home for that reason.

She occasionally pees over her bedding/rug but does 💩 in the box. This occurs at AC as well.

Trunks is very healthy and super friendly.

She came in to AC in Jan 2023. Was adopted in Feb 2023. Was relinquished back to AC in Dec 2023.

She does not have a urinary tract infection.

Like anything else behavioral issues stem from something for cats, it can be smell changes in the environment stress new additions of people/kids/babies or animals. Cats don’t do things to be vindictive.

It could be something as simple as seeing cats out the window.

What we do know is that cats urinating outside of the litterbox is the number one reason people give up cats. Once it begins it does take time to correct.

We don’t like placing cats that have been in homes in a barn and we don’t like placing them in winter time. She is kind of out of options.

Please reach out to us to help her find a patient understanding home/barn. AC is not giving up on Trunks and we won’t either😻

TNR Cats and What you need to know;
* Cats that are put through a TNR program are dear to the people who paid to have them sterilized, microchipped, vaccinated, treated for fleas and ear-mites. They are part of a managed cat colony of anywhere from 1 to dozens; and can be a barn cat or a previously TNRd cat that was adopted.
* Tipping a cat’s ear may save its life, a microchip insures that should the cat be found alive or dead that the caretaker is notified and able to stop looking and worrying. It also says that this cat is fixed and part of a program.
* If you find any cat feral or friendly cat that is ill or injured of course try to get them veterinary help;
* If you see an ear-tipped cat that appears healthy, someone is likely looking after it;
* You are not doing a feral cat good will if you want to trap it and place it in a barn home. These cats are like any other wildlife, they know their food sources, safe areas and places to hang out;
* If you need to handle a feral cat do so with proper equipment because if you get scratched or bitten your Doctor will need to file a report, and without a rabies record that cat, if trapped will be euthanized and sent to a lab for testing;
* Please do not take a feral cat indoors in the middle of winter to try to socialize it unless you are prepared to hold it until Spring;
* Tom cats may become more social to people after they have been neutered as they have nothing much to do and the hormones are out of their system in a couple of weeks. While you may be able to pet them they typically do not like to be picked up. Females tend to retain their feral state as that instinct helped them protect their kittens.

Bottom line is TNR works.
The programs are managed by caring individuals who want to insure the well-being of free-roaming feral and barn cats and to stop the reproduction cycle. At the same time pulling adoptable cats and kittens to find them forever indoor homes.
