On and in continuation of National Immunization Awareness Month, we’d like to remind animal owners to protect against mosquito-borne illnesses, such as heartworm disease, West Nile Virus, and others, by keeping their animals up to date on vaccinations and using preventative medications.

RECALL UPDATE: Vitakraft Sun Seed Inc. of Weston, OH is working closely with our colleagues at the FDA and MN Department of Agriculture and out of an abundance of caution has elected to expand the recall to include the following lots of Sun Seed Vita Prima Hedgehog Food and Vitakraft Vita Smart Hedgehog Food because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Products from the recalled lot were distributed to the following states: AZ, CA, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, MA, MI, MN, MO, NC, NJ, NV, NY, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, AND WI. More info: https://bit.ly/3VZ2TEI

RECALL UPDATE: Viva Raw LLC is voluntarily recalling dog and cat foods, all manufactured under Lot 21244, due to testing positive for Listeria monocytogenes and is a potential health risk to people and pets.

The products were distributed directly to consumers in all fifty states and the District of Columbia. The product is distributed as frozen 1 lb bricks in clear vacuum packaging. There are no expiration dates for these products. Only products from Lot 21244 are affected.

The issue was discovered during a facility inspection conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and The North Carolina Department of Agriculture (NCDA). The FDA tested samples of Viva Turkey for Dogs and found samples from Lot 21244 were positive for Listeria monocytogenes. All products produced in Lot 21244 were slated for destruction. However, we have since learned some of the product from this lot was inadvertently released from the warehouse. More info: https://bit.ly/3XUAHnP

This is something we work hard with our clients on. Teaching dogs to respect little ones and littles one respecting the dog. A lot of bites can be prevented with respect.

Let's talk about this photo. It's cute, except it's not. I see a dog who cannot get up without telling the child to get off. How do you think a dog is going to do that?

The 7 Golden Toddler Dog Rules:
#1: If a dog walks away from you, you DO NOT FOLLOW.
#2: Always leave room for the dog to walk away from you.
---that right there is 90+% of dog bites eliminated---
#3: We do not climb on the dog.
#4: We do not grab or pull on the dog.
#5: We do not hit or throw anything at the dog.
#6: We do not touch the dog's food.
#7: We do not go into the dog's kennel.

I promise these are not overly difficult concepts for littles, nor will they rob a kid of their bond with the family dog. It will deepen that bond, while keeping everyone safe.

"Oh, it looks like Moose is walking away from you. She is saying she wants a break. Let's play with this instead!"

"It's Moose's dinner time! Let's give her space to enjoy her yummies."

"That is Moose's room(kennel) and only she is allowed to go in there."

"If Moose wanted a break, could she walk away from you right now? No she really couldn't. Let's move away from the play house. You can keep playing but now she can leave when she wants a break."

In conclusion, ***parent your child or your dog will do it for you, and you will not like how they do it.***

Today, on this sacred Memorial Day, we pause to honor and express our deep gratitude to those who served and their loved ones.

Today is a day of significance for us as a veteran-owned business. Today is a day of mixed emotions for sure. We do our best to honor the sacrifices made by the men and women who gave their lives in service to this country.

That doesn't mean we should spend the day mourning and being somber. Instead, please take a moment to honor their sacrifice and celebrate that this country was privileged to have such extraordinary men and women willing to give it all.

In the words of General George S. Patton, “It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather, we should thank God that such men lived.”
