I love how plants connect people and places and generations. I'm so appreciative each time someone shares a story about an aunt or grandma or dad or neighbor who turned them onto plants. Thought I'd share pics and stories of the 2 women who I credit with my love of plants.

I don't have any grandparents still living but they live large in my life every single day.

Grandma McGee - I'm not sure how it's possible to miss someone I never knew, but still...I miss her so deeply. My dad and I never pot plants that I don't get stories about her and her plants. My dad's stories usually start with, "Momma always.." Apparently, everyone wanted seeds and cuttings from Etla McGee. Propagation is in my blood 🌱 I grew up with lots of stories about her, but working with my dad on McGee Plants & Produce has opened up so many plant stories about Grandma McGee I never knew before. Add it to the list of reasons I love MPP 💚

Grandma - My first plant memories are from my mom's mom. She would cut roses from the bushes she worked so hard on, wrap them in wet paper towels, and give them to me before school to give to my elementary teachers. She mailed this Polaroid to me while I was living in NY and feeling quite homesick. This is the power of plants...even a picture of a plant can make someone's day better 💕 My 2nd plant memory is from the parking lot of Kmart. She found a little piece of a purple tradescantia burning up on the concrete on a Tuesday summer shopping trip. She dragged my sister and I back into Kmart to get a wet paper towel from the checkout girl so the rootless plant would survive until we made it home. Oh the embarrassment!!! 🤪 I can still see the overflowing hanging basket she grew from that rescued plant piece. Now, I grow a whole rack of tradescantia on my front porch every summer 💜

Wish they could run the booth with me just once. I'd make them tell me all their plant secrets.

Been checking for eggs everyday...for over a month. Never saw eggs, but obviously they're here 🧡🖤🧡 Thanks for giving me my first host plant (well, the first one I planted with intention to host).

So many of our customers WANT a garden and want to grow a little of their own food, but are limited by space and time. All you need is a ☀️ spot outside on a balcony, patio or porch and daily 💦
