We are switching to a new digital cloud based wait-list.

We have been trying to call through the papers that we have on file, but if you still have a pet you need help with, please fill out this form- https://airtable.com/appqGK1exz1tnv1Ut/pagiX0js9EFlr5w6D/form

If you fill out this form, not only can we see it, but many other local area shelters and rescues can see it too. It also has a place to attach photos.

Thank you for working with us as we make changes to help us save more pets.

We have 3 barn cats looking for a home.

They will need a secure place while they get used to a new home before being let free.

We can keep them through this next cold spell but would love to get a home lined up for them.

We will be open 10-3 today.

We've got some dogs coming back from foster, a couple barn cats that need to recover from a URI so probably won't be available until after this cold snap and a couple kittens that will be at the vet today, but should be ready for home on Friday.

We do have some food to give away.

Happy New Year!

We've had a nice break but are excited to get back into the shelter!

We've got a few more projects we'd like to work on around the shelter. We updated the inside now we'd like to work outside. Dirt work and fences are first on our list.

We've got 6 clinics scheduled in January and February already! We could really use some volunteers to help these run smoothly so please reach out if you can help.

We are working on updating our logo and website. We could use some help.

Our Thrift store is a huge source of income for our shelter and is completely volunteer run. We can use help.

A new coalition has started with 11+ local area shelters and rescues. We are working on consolidating requests for help and lost and found animals. We'll let you know more soon!

Our board has some open positions if you'd like more information please reach out.

See you in 2025!

Psst- don't forget to pick up our calendar at Fire Station #1 They are $25.

It was quite an accomplishment, but between our staff and local contractors, we were able to remodel the whole inside of the shelter this fall.

We had a bunch of sick kittens and decided that we needed to repaint and refinish the floor in the cat room to prevent any more kittens from getting ill. Next thing you know, we've decided to refinish and paint the whole shelter and move a few things around, build a wall, get new cabinets, and a grooming tub!

Thanks to a grant from Best Friends a large part of the costs of the remodel was covered and our great supporters helped with the rest!

If you haven't been up to see our changes- come on in! We are open 10-3 Tuesday- Saturday.

Post #3 Outcomes for pets at our shelter

Adoptions are one of our favorite things! It's so great to send a pet on to a new loving family! We had 183 cats and 176 dogs adopted from Paws and Claws in 2024.

46 puppies were transferred out. Most of these left Arkansas to be transported to rescues in northern states.

We had 3 stray pets returned home to owners!

We also had 11 deaths. 5 unassisted and 6 euthanasias. 8 of these 11 were young kittens, by far the most vulnerable group of animals we see at the shelter.

In 2024 from July- December, we held 12 Spay/Neuter Clinics and fixed 410 dogs and cats. If 200 were females and each would have had 5-10 babies next year then that is 1000-2000 less babies just next year.

We are so thankful to everywhere that let us use their facilities to hold clinics and any restaurants that donated food to help feed our vet staff and volunteers on these long days.

BISSELL Pet Foundation, Cathy Bissell, Good Shepherd Humane Society, and help make these clinics possible. We can't wait to keep working with them in 2025.

If you'd like to help us prevent unwanted litters please reach out. We have volunteer opportunities from helping in recovery to making phone calls.

Happy New Year!

In 2024 we took in 433 animals. A few more dogs-225, than cats-207 and 1 goat!

About half were strays and the rest were owner surrenders. Many of these owner surrenders were litters of puppies or kittens. When we take in babies it is a requirement that we can also spay the mom. In most cases the owners keep the adult pets and we find new homes for babies- after they receive vet care, vaccines, and get fixed.

A few were transfers from other organizations. This would be strays we take in from Huntsville Animal Control or occasionally a pet microchipped to us ends up at another shelter or at the vet.

This number is a little lower than the past few years. Between dog adoptions being so slow especially during the summer, our own decision to spend some of our energy putting on much needed spay/neuter clinics, and the interruption to our services during our remodel, we are not surprised that we were a little short of our goal to save 500 animals. We will try again in 2025!

Calendars are here! You may come by Fire Station 1 between 730-5 during the week to pick up your copy! Those of you whom pre-ordered, it will be set aside.
These have a quick turnaround so we can order more if needed. Thank you from HFD and Paws and Claws for the support!

*Adopted*

If anyone is interested in adopting Boris, please send us a message. Otherwise he's going to a foster home tomorrow.

Other than that we have sick cats needing fosters or Conner can be adopted (he has not done well meeting new people so unless you are planning a very quiet week he's probably not suitable to foster over the holidays).

We will be open 10-2 to give out food or accept donations.

We will then be closed until January 2.
