Meet Matilda! Matilda is a young adult tortoiseshell cat known for her beautiful multicolored coat and gentle demeanor. Though she has a quiet personality, Matilda loves to play, bringing joy and energy to her home.

Her playful nature and calm presence make her a beloved companion. She gets along well with other pets who have the same demeanor.

Meet JJ! This sweet boy loves his foster family, dog friends, and even the cats. JJ loves to play with toys, swim in the lake/baby pool, and wrestle with his friends. When he's all tuckered out, he settles in for a good snuggle with his playmates. JJ would love a home with an active family, his own baby pool, and a playful fur sibling. Weighing in around 40 pounds, JJ is a perfect medium size dog. His handsome, muscular build makes him appear bigger than he is in pictures. JJ would be a great cover dog on a magazine! “Settle in and let me tell you a story. It’s a beautiful story of love, rescue, and happiness. It started when an old woman met an old man badly in need of help.”

We can’t attest to the “old” part of “old woman”, but “old man” is true enough! Five years ago a volunteer welcomed Jimmy into her home. Jimmy was painfully underweight and riddled with health issues. And OLD. This volunteer was his only chance to get out of the shelter, and we all knew hers would be his final “home”. What we didn’t know is how much their bond would become a testament to that tried and true adage “love conquers all”. Under her care, Jimmy didn’t just improve- he THRIVED! He became affectionately known as Jimbo and, while he was officially considered a “foster in hospice”, Jimbo found his perfect home and he knew it!

Recently, sweet Jimmy crossed the rainbow bridge. The quoted text above is how his foster began the message to share the news of his passing with family and friends. Our foster volunteers are a vital part of our organization- they literally house the pets that we all work so diligently to save. But there is a small group that, like this volunteer, choose to focus their efforts on pets that will have a not-so-typical happily ever after, and this volunteer’s words describe what they do so well. You may recognize the names of some of these pets- Titan, Hazel, Mercury, and now, Jimmy.

It takes a special heart to accept an older or medically fragile foster pet into your home knowing that it will be their last, knowing that you will be the closest they ever know to “forever”. Today is World Kindness Day and we can think of no better day to highlight these volunteers and thank them for providing the kindness and love that pets like Jimmy long for and deserve, whether it’s for 5 years, a few months, or just a few days. May the world share an extra measure of kindness with people with hearts like these. They know that the task they take on comes with heartache, but the work they do is amazing and, heartache or no, they love these pets fully and wholly and do so with an insurmountable level of kindness and grace. The Jimmys, and Hazels, and Titans of the world thank you, and so do all of the rest of us!

Meet Penne. Penne is a teenage girl with a big personality. She's super friendly and is more than happy to lay in your lap for a nap or just some snuggles. Penne loves to play with toys and other cats. She doesn't mind calm dogs. Based on her rather chubby size, she also loves food.

Penne is a survivor of FIP and shouldn't have any continued health issues. There's no danger of another cat in the home catching FIP from her.

Meet Malcolm, the ultimate goofball! This 5-month-old pittie prince is a bundle of energy, always ready to bounce into action. Whether he's chasing his tail or launching himself into a pile of toys, Malcolm brings joy and laughter wherever he goes. His silly antics and playful spirit make every day an adventure! His sweet, soulful eyes will have you lost in them, definition of "puppy dog eyes!

Malcolm is crate trained and house trained when on a regular schedule. He is too playful and rough for kitty cats, but loves to play with other dogs (smaller dogs could be intimidated). Meet Duke! Duke is a 3 year old Australian Shepherd that is the sweetest love bug ever! Duke loves dogs, cats, people- everything really! The only downside to this handsome fella is that he needs a very secure yard to play in. Duke is athletic and determined, and he can clear any fence and will come when he wants to. He is trained on invisible fence, however, and is very good with that! Duke just wants to be with his people. He will not escape a fence if you are in the yard with him, but will escape if left alone and try to find you. Duke loves to play with other dogs and will do best in a home with a fun furry playmate. He would love an active family that will take him on adventures and let him snuggle with them at the end of the day. Meet Neptune. The largest of the litter, this boy is a "gentle giant”. He is sweetly shy in unfamiliar surroundings, but is friendly and curious. He gets along with other friendly kitties - especially his litter mates. He is cautious with dogs. He would do well in a calm household, with a patient adopter.

Neptune is almost entirely black. He has subtle chocolate undertones in his coat. Neptune sports a small white locket at his throat and a hint of white whisps in his ears. His eyes are a unique mix of gold and green.

Meet Clark! Clark is an adorable and sweet Blue Heeler that is approximately 3 years old. He has typical dense heeler fur that he loves to have you scratch. Clark loves attention and does well with other dogs! He has never been around cats or kids, but we would be happy to introduce him to either if needed to help find the perfect home! Meet Timmy, the adventurous spirit of the litter! This little guy is always the first to explore new places and try out new toys.

Timmy is curious, playful, and always ready for action, but he has a sweet side too-he's a big fan of cuddles once he's tuckered out. Great with other animals and always up for fun, Timmy would love a home where he can continue his adventures and share lots of love!

Atlas is about 3 years old, and around 2 of those years have been spent in a foster home! Atlas is still waiting for his forever home. We coordinated a collab rescue effort with Greater Huntsville Humane Society (GHHS) to save nine puppies that were abandoned in a vacant lot in Huntsville.
