Here is some history about Nina. She has served in Madison County, Alabama in the field of animal welfare, care and control for more than 20 years. She was one of the early organizers of the Greater Huntsville Humane Society. She served as the organizations President and as a Cruelty Investigator for 7 years. Nina was one of the individuals that worked hard to persuade the City of Huntsville to bu

ild their new state of the art animal control facility that is located on Triana Boulevard. Nina started the first humane education program at Animal Control and from 1985 to 1998 would serve in the position of the departments Humane Educator. Over a period of 13 years she would teach over 25,000 school children responsible pet ownership. She has worked with Senator’s, Representative’s and other members of the Alabama Legislative body to improve and develop new laws to protect animals. In 1990, with the help of Huntsville Attorney Herman “Buck” Watson, Nina incorporated the Ark for the purpose of shelter rescue. However, because of other animal-human related needs in the community, through the Ark, she has an Agreement of Understanding with the local chapter of the American Red Cross to put in place a DART (Disaster Animal Relief Team) to rescue animals that are victims of natural disaster. The Ark also has an agreement with Hope Place to (a refuge for victims of domestic violence) to care for and protect the pets of women seeking refuge at Hope Place. The Ark has a wonderful staff of volunteers that are dedicated and dependable. The dedication of Nina and the Ark volunteers has developed an excellent rapport between the Ark and the media, veterinarians and other professionals in the community. Through dedication, hard work, integrity and honesty, the Ark has programs of assistance that were never available before its incorporation. Presently, Nina Beal serves as the organizations Director and manages the daily operations of the Ark. The Ark performs onsite adoptions ONLY. We do not perform adoptions at fundraising events.

We have had many wonderful adoptions and happy tails this year 🥰❣️
But we can't forget the other wonderful fur-companions who have been waiting a very long time for their families to find them and bring them home. Even though they have been waiting, they wag their tails just as hard and they purr just as loudly as the ones who have already been adopted.
These wonderful pets just need a home and family to tail wag and purr like a motorboat for.... come met them and we think you'll see how amazing they really are!

How about this happy tail?!?!
Remember Bear?
Bear was at the Ark for quite a long time, and finally one day an amazing family met him and just knew that he was a precious diamond in the 'ruff'! With lots of love and training, Bear and his family are now accomplished AKC tournament medal winners, and Bear is well on his way to becoming a Certified Service Dog!! We couldn't possibly be happier for Bear and his family - this is teamwork at it's finest!!
There are many things to be thankful for, and at the top of the Ark thankful list are the families who open their homes and hearts to our adoptable pets. Bear and his family are such a wonderful example and reminder that all of the pets at the Ark deserve a home where the diamond in them can shine, especially those that have been with us for a very long time. There are many at the Ark right now just waiting for their turn to sparkle and we'd love to see them get their chance just like Bear.

Ruby just absolutley loves carrying or playing with her toys, or just hanging out relaxing on the bench with her volunteer friends! She's a perfect size to snuggle with and watch a movie, or go with you for a nice walk to keep her girlish figure in shape (and we all need a little help with that during the holiday season!) Ruby knows how special she is.... so special that she's the only dog you'd need and she prefers it that way!

And here he is.... Echo! Echo is strikingly handsome, and definitely has a personality to match! He's bit of a goofball, loves to have some fun with his toys or in the pool, is a complete mush for a belly or head rub, loves to be brushed, go for walks and hang out with his people.
