It’s not to late to TREAT YOUR PUPS to a special new toy this Halloween! 👻
Structure in a dog’s life does not mean they can’t have fun- it means they can have more of it!
Two weeks ago Romulus was charging people, resource guarding, had no respect for personal space and was more than willing to bite if it meant getting what he wanted. Fast forward - not through time but through structure, to a dog that is developing good choices and earning want he wants rather than demanding it!
In recent months, Romulus, a one year old Cane Corso began showing signs of aggression towards his owners and their family/ friends. He was very confident in his size, thought resource guarding was a fun afternoon activity and felt entitled to charge at unfamiliar and unsuspecting humans. Romulus‘ owner is very experienced with giant breeds and knew that as soon as this behavior presented its ugly self, seeking help was a priority! After a lesson in muzzle conditioning and a couple of weeks practice at home – we got started! Safety protocols for Romulus and the staff were our number one priority but setting a new set of expectations for him did not fall far behind. Now, halfway through his program, Romulus has become much more respectful of space that doesn’t belong to him but which he previously thought otherwise, has proven some exceptional skills with with obedience (which allows us a way to communicate with him through praise and correction), and has figured out that maintaining a neutral state of mind gets him what he wants rather than the his disrespectful acts in the past.
This week we will venture out with Romulus to put his work to the test in the “real world” but first we needed to figure out how to get this nearly 120lb boy into the back of a vehicle!
Colby is a year old German Shepherd that has been struggling to make good decisions. His excessive energy and bad manners have led him to us with a goal of stopping his barking, jumping, digging, pulling at the leash, biting, running off , toy possessiveness and separation anxiety. The list is pretty long for this young boy so we have been hard at work teaching him a new set of expectations, how to achieve a more restful state of mind and most recently- how to wear a muzzle so that his future vet visits can go smoother than those in the past!
