As the summer weather starts rolling in, it’s important to keep a close eye on your pups while outside. Brachiocephalic (short-nosed) breeds are at a higher risk of heat stroke. This life threatening condition where the internal temperature of the body is too hot to regulate itself. A normal temperature of a French Bulldog sits between 101-102.5°F. Once their internal temperature raises to 103°F and higher, the pup becomes more at risk for irreversible organ damage, organ failure, and overall death. We know some French Bulldogs aren’t always couch potatoes and can have a lot of drive and energy so be aware of the signs that your pup is getting overheated. If at any point, your pup is experiencing these symptoms and their temperature starts creeping up to 104°F or higher, start cooling down your vehicle and contact your nearest vet to make them aware of your pup’s arrival.
Here are a couple of things to do for your active pups this summer:
☀️ Kiddie pools
☀️ Placing treats under plastic cups to allow your pup to search for treats
☀️ Dog Puzzle Toys
☀️ Snuffle Mats
☀️ Lick Mats
☀️ Bubble blowing (Dawn Dish Soap + Water)
☀️ Freezing broth, peanut butter, or plain yogurt inside a Kong toy
☀️ Walking around pet friendly stores *depending on area and store management* (Home Depot, Lowe’s, Half Price Books, Scheels, Academy, Bass Pro, Michaels, T.J. Maxx)
