Continuing from our last post, we wanted to discuss why we recommend our online pharmacy Vet's First Choice as opposed to the other online pharmacies that are out there.

Many online webstores are not regulated, which could result in products being delivered that are sent from unverified manufacturers. This could result in improper handling and storage, incorrect medications being filled, and more. Keeping your pets safe is why we always recommend our pharmacy to ensure that your pets are receiving the appropriate prescriptions.

07/27/2024

As you may have heard already, we are now requiring some scripts to be filled through our online pharmacy. We wanted to take a moment to tell you more information as to why this change is happening.

As a clinic we are limited in the number of medications, preventatives, and supplements that can be ordered and filled at our practice. To ensure that our patients are receiving necessary scripts (such as antibiotics, pain medications, controlled substances, etc.), we are asking our clients to use our online pharmacy whenever possible. Moving forward, there will be some products that we require to be ordered through our online pharmacy (depending on the prescription). This includes large quantity refills, many supplements, and some preventatives. Some products we will continue to carry in house in smaller quantities, but there are some that we will no longer be keeping in stock.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know! We are always happy to answer any questions you may have.

July is national lost pet prevention month, and we wanted to share some tips for keeping your pets safe. It is always important to make sure your pet has proper identification on their collar when going outside. Ensuring that your pet's microchip is registered is also crucial in case your pet does get lost.

On this day in 1885, the first successful vaccine against the rabies virus was administered. To commemorate this achievement, today we celebrate World Zoonoses Day!

Zoonoses, or zoonotic diseases, are infections that can be transmitted between animals and humans. These include COVID-19, rabies, leptospirosis, and more. Keeping your pets up to date on vaccines is an effective way to reduce the spread of these diseases.

Happy 4th of July from our team to you!

As we gather to celebrate Independence Day with family and friends, let's not forget our furry companions! Here are some tips to keep your pets safe and calm during the festivities:

πŸŽ‡ Create a Safe Space: Make sure your pets have a quiet, comfortable place to retreat away from the noise.
🐢 Keep Them Indoors: Fireworks can be frightening for pets. Keep them indoors and secure windows and doors.
🐱 Update ID Tags: Ensure your pets' ID tags and microchip information are up to date, just in case they get scared and run off.
🐾 Avoid Fireworks: Never use fireworks around pets. They can cause severe burns and trauma.
πŸŽ† Watch the BBQ: Be mindful of what your pets eat. Certain foods can be harmful to them.

Wishing everyone a safe and joyful 4th of July!

06/24/2024

Picking a food for our feline friends can be a difficult task as cats are sometimes picky eaters, especially as they get older. The cat food market has shown an increase in wet food options, and we wanted to take a minute to discuss what we recommend in terms of your cat's diet.
Wet food and wet food toppers are different products. Wet food itself is a hydrated diet (often in cans) which can serve as as a primary diet for cats. Toppers on the other hand are smaller amounts of wet food (often in packets) that are intended to be added to a cat's primary diet to entice them to eat and to promote hydration. These toppers are a great way to encourage your cat to eat, however these products are not intended to be a primary diet. Wet and dry foods (for cats and dogs) contain different vitamins and minerals that are custom tailored to the species, breed, and/or life stage that the diet is intended for. Wet food toppers (like the ones pictured below) do not contain these vitamins and minerals, meaning they should not be your cat's primary diet. While feeding these topers to your cats, it is important to make sure that you are supplementing them with the appropriate wet or dry food based on their age and lifestyle. It is always important to read the labels and instructions on food packaging to be sure the diet is being fed appropriately.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to us!

06/18/2024

With allergy season in full swing, we wanted to remind everyone of the difference between different types of allergy medications. Our doctors often recommend over-the-counter allergy medications for animals, but it is important to be sure that they are receiving the correct drug. For instance, Benadryl is commonly used in dogs as the drug diphenhydramine is safe for them, however Benadryl that is contains a decongestant is not safe as the drug phenylephrine can be toxic to dogs. As always, please consult your veterinarian before starting your pets on any medications to ensure that they are receiving the proper dose. If you have any questions or concerns about allergy medications for your pets, please let us know!
