🍓 Cold weather = sweeter berries 🍓
Strawberries naturally create more sugars when temperatures drop. It’s their way of protecting themselves from frost — and it just so happens to make them incredibly delicious for us.

🌱 Slow growth builds real flavor
Instead of racing to ripen in hot summer sun, winter berries take their time. The slower they grow, the richer and more concentrated the flavor becomes.

🌿 Grown in living, healthy soil
At our farm , our soil is loaded with organic matter, compost, and biology. When the soil is alive, the plant is alive — and the fruit is unmatched.

☀️ Cold nights, sunny days
This natural rhythm locks in sweetness while giving the berries just enough warmth to ripen fully.

So yes — winter strawberries can taste better… if you grow them the way nature intended.

🦋 Monarchs Are Visiting the farm — And That Means Something Important

Lately, we’ve been blessed with more monarch butterflies drifting through the farm. Their soft, delicate flight is mesmerizing… but it’s also a reminder of just how sensitive and vulnerable these incredible creatures are.

🌿 Monarchs Are Fragile Travelers
Monarch butterflies migrate thousands of miles each year, but they rely entirely on healthy landscapes along the way. They need milkw**d to raise their young, clean nectar sources to fuel their journey, and chemical-free habitats where they can safely land and rest.
The hard truth is that monarch populations have dramatically declined in recent years because those essential habitats are disappearing.

💔 Why Their Visit Matters
So when monarchs stop at Living Earth Farms, it tells us that the work we’re doing—growing organically, planting pollinator-friendly spaces, and nurturing wild diversity—is creating a place where even the most sensitive species can thrive.
Their presence is more than a pretty moment. It’s a sign of ecological care, resilience, and hope.

🌼 What We’re Doing to Support Them
We’re continually adding more milkw**d, protecting wildflower patches, avoiding harmful pesticides, and letting parts of the land stay wild. These may seem like small acts, but to a monarch, they can mean survival.

💛 A Reminder for All of Us
Monarchs teach us that even the most delicate beings can make incredible journeys—but only if we give them the safe spaces they need. We’re grateful to play a small part in their story.

Here’s to protecting the fragile beauty around us, one wingbeat at a time.

🌱 Feeling Grateful at the Farm 🌿

Today we just want to shine a light on some of the incredible people who have poured their time, energy, and love into our little farm. These smiling faces you see in the photos aren’t just “helpers” — they’re part of the heartbeat of Living Earth Farms.

From early-morning harvesting to helping us shape new ideas, from hands in the soil to hands washing produce in the pack shed — every person who shows up here makes a real difference. We truly wouldn’t be where we are without this community that believes in clean food, regenerative practices, and the dream we’re building.

Thank you for showing up… for caring about local food… for supporting the work we do… and for cheering us on every step of the way. Your support reminds us why we do this, even on the long and muddy days.

Here’s to growing together — in the fields, in the community, and in gratitude.

🌾🧀 New Seasonal Cheeses at the Farm Store! 🍷🍇
We’re excited to bring you two incredible seasonal cheeses from our friends at Finney Farms — and trust us, you’re going to want to try these!

🧀✨ Cranberry Cheddar

This beautiful cheddar is blended with tart, juicy cranberries that add just the right touch of sweetness. It’s festive, delicious, and perfect for fall snacking, charcuterie boards, or pairing with your favorite farm-fresh apples.
Rich, creamy, sweet-tart perfection.

🍷🧀 White Wine–Infused Cheese

This one has us extra excited — a special collaboration between Finney Farms and Water Canyon Winery of Hilldale, Utah! The cheese is gently infused with white wine, creating a smooth, aromatic flavor that’s both bright and creamy.
Wine and cheese are a natural match — the acidity of wine cuts through the rich creaminess of cheese, and the cheese softens the wine’s sharper notes. The result? A beautiful fusion of flavors that makes each bite melt-in-your-mouth amazing.

🌟 Why These Cheeses Are So Good
• Cranberries bring antioxidants and a lovely sweet-tart pop.
• White wine infusion enhances aroma, adds depth, and creates an irresistibly smooth texture.
• Both cheeses are perfect for entertaining, gifting, or treating yourself to something special.

🛒 Available Now at the Living Earth Farms Store

🌼 Flowers in November? Yep — still going strong at the farm! 🌼

Farmer Jon went out this morning and filmed one of our garden beds… and even in mid-November, it’s bursting with blooms. 💐✨
We’re as surprised as you are — but also incredibly grateful.

Why does this matter?
Because flowers aren’t just pretty — they’re powerhouses for our farm’s ecosystem:

🐝 Pollinator Fuel: Bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects depend on late-season blooms for nectar and pollen. These flowers help them store energy before winter hits.

🌱 Stronger Harvests: More pollinators = better fruit set, healthier plants, and bigger harvests. Flowers help us grow the food you take home!

🌍 Biodiversity Boost: Flower-filled spaces support everything from native bees to predatory insects that naturally reduce pests.

So when Jon walks past a November garden still full of color, it’s more than beautiful — it’s a sign that our little ecosystem is alive, balanced, and working exactly as nature designed. 🌿💛

🌱 Garlic Planting Has Begun at Living Earth Farms! 🧄✨

We officially kicked off our garlic planting today, starting with the first of our two varieties for next year’s harvest. This season, we’re planting both hardneck and softneck garlic to offer a great mix of flavor, storage life, and versatility for our customers.

🧄 Hardneck Garlic
• Rich, bold, complex flavor
• Produces delicious scapes in early summer
• Larger, easy-to-peel cloves
• Excellent cold-hardiness

🧄 Softneck Garlic
• Outstanding storage life — lasts for months
• More cloves per bulb
• Mild, flexible flavor for everyday cooking
• Perfect for garlic braids

By growing both types, we’ll have a full spectrum of garlic next year — from strong and spicy to mild and long-keeping.

☀️ Why We’re Planting Later This Year

You may notice we’re planting garlic a bit later than usual. That’s because we’ve had an unusually warm fall, and garlic needs cool soil to get properly established. Planting too early in warm soil can cause:
• Too much top growth, making plants vulnerable to winter damage
• Smaller bulbs next summer
• Higher disease and pest pressure

Now that temperatures are finally cooling down, it’s the perfect window to get garlic in the ground so it can root in deeply before winter.

🌿 Benefits of the Brown W**d Fabric

We’re using brown w**d-suppressing fabric again this season because it makes a big difference in crop quality:
• Reduces w**ds so the garlic gets all the nutrients
• Helps soil retain moisture
• Warms the soil gently, ideal for fall planting
• Improves soil structure by cutting down on disturbance
• Saves labor time during busy growing months

We’re excited to see these rows take off over the coming weeks. Stay tuned for updates — and get ready for some beautiful garlic coming to the Living Earth Farms store next year! 🌱🧄✨

🌱 Soil Magic in the Pumpkin Patch! 🎃✨

This week we wrapped up a really satisfying project in the garden where our pumpkins grew this season. After the plants finished producing, we covered the whole area with a silage tarp and left it for about 3–4 weeks — no water, no disturbance, just time and biology at work.

When we pulled the tarp back… WOW.
The soil was dark, soft, moist, and absolutely alive. Exactly what we love to see here at Living Earth Farms.

We then came through with the BCS tractor and gently shredded the remaining plant material, letting it become food for the soil life that’s already thriving.

🌾 Why this matters for soil & plant health:

• W**d suppression: The tarp blocks sunlight, naturally reducing w**d pressure — fewer w**ds competing with our crops later in the season.
• Moisture retention: Even with zero irrigation, the soil stayed hydrated and healthy under the tarp.
• Biology boost: Without disturbance, soil organisms get to work breaking down roots and plant residue, building structure and organic matter.
• Carbon + nutrients return to the soil: Shredded plant material becomes a slow-release nutrient source for future crops.
• Healthier soil = healthier plants: Strong soil structure and active biology make it easier for crops to access nutrients, fend off stress, and grow more vigorously.

This simple, low-tech practice is one of our favorite ways to build long-term soil health while reducing labor — and the results speak for themselves.

Here’s to nurturing the land that feeds us. 🌎💚
More garden updates coming soon from all of us at Living Earth Farms!

🍎✨ New Product Alert! ✨🍎

We’re excited to share that our farm store is now carrying fresh, organic apple cider from a local farm that does it right! 🍏🌿

If you’ve ever sipped real apple cider, you know it’s one of fall’s greatest simple pleasures — rich, tangy, and full of flavor straight from the orchard. But here’s something not everyone knows: apple cider can sometimes make the “Dirty Dozen” list. That’s because apples are among the most heavily sprayed fruits in conventional farming, and when they’re pressed into cider, all those residues can concentrate in the juice.

That’s why organic apples matter — no synthetic pesticides, no chemical residues, just pure, clean fruit. Choosing organic cider means you’re supporting healthier soil, cleaner water, and a safer, more sustainable food system for our community.

Stop by the store this week to grab a bottle (or two!) of this small-batch organic cider while it lasts — it’s perfect chilled, warmed with cinnamon, or mixed into your favorite fall recipes. 🍂🥂community.

🌾 Weekly Wheatgrass for Happy Hens at Living Earth Farms 🐔💚

We’ve started growing fresh wheatgrass every week for our chickens — and they’re loving it! Not only does it give them something fresh and green to peck at, it’s also a powerful nutritional boost that keeps our flock thriving all year long.

Wheatgrass is packed with vitamins A, C, and E, plus minerals like calcium and magnesium — all great for strong eggshells, bright feathers, and healthy immune systems. It’s also rich in chlorophyll, which helps detoxify and support digestion. 🌱

And the science backs it up:
📚 Early research from the 1920s found that hens fed cereal grasses like wheatgrass laid more eggs with stronger shells.
📚 Modern studies show sprouted and green grains can improve feed efficiency, raise “good” cholesterol, and support overall vitality in chickens.
📚 Even when pasture is limited, fresh greens help mimic natural foraging and reduce stress.

For us, this is about more than nutrition — it’s about giving our animals the kind of care and diversity they’d find in nature. When our hens are healthy and happy, their eggs are too. 🥚✨

We grow our wheatgrass right here on the farm — part of our commitment to self-sufficiency and regenerative food systems. Another small way we’re building community resilience, one tray of greens (and one happy hen!) at a time. 💚

Ever seen markings like this on a watermelon?
This beautiful spiral isn’t a flaw — it’s called scarring or catfacing, and it happens when an insect gently touches the young rind and a scar forms early in the fruit’s growth.

As the melon grows, that tiny mark stretches into a pattern — like nature’s own fingerprint. 🌀
It doesn’t hurt the fruit or change the flavor at all — just adds a little personality!

At Living Earth Farms, we love finding moments like this — reminders that farming isn’t about perfection, it’s about harmony. Every insect, breeze, and sunbeam plays a part in creating food that’s truly alive. 🌻
