Pet of the week spotlight Mr. Moe.....

My name is Moe. I am advanced in age according to some but at 8 years old I am as peppy as ever. I am obedient, loyal and clean. I'm quite talkative when I'm happy and I'm eager to live out the rest of my life among the comforts of your home. Please watch my interview that the wonderful people over at the library made of me and you will see that I am the star that you've been wishing for.

Happy Halloween Everyone!

How can we make Halloween safer for pets?
Costumes and masks, lights and decorations, and a constant parade of strangers coming to your door— Halloween can be a downright spooky experience for pets. You can protect your pets by taking these steps to reduce the risk of them being hurt, poisoned, or lost.
Don't feed pets Halloween treats. Raisins can cause your pet’s kidneys to fail, and candy may contain substances toxic to pets, such as chocolate or xylitol (a common sugar substitute found in sugar-free candies and gum). Often, you won’t be able to tell what a treat or piece of candy contains just by looking at it.
Make sure your pets have identification (microchip, collar, and ID tag) that will make it easy for someone to contact you and return them home in case they escape through an open door while you're distracted with trick-or-treaters.
Keep lit candles, jack-o-lanterns, and other Halloween decorations out of reach of pets.
Keep all human costume pieces away from pets, along with glow sticks, decorations, batteries, and other holiday items. When chewed, glow stick items can release liquid that tastes really bad and can make pets drool excessively or act strangely (though it isn’t likely to be harmful). Other costume parts and decorations might cause choking, internal injury, or illness.
If you plan to put a costume on your pet, make sure it follows these guidelines:
Fits properly and is comfortable
Doesn't have any pieces that easily can be chewed off or cause choking
Doesn't block your pet's sight, hearing, breathing, mouth, or movement
Take time before Halloween to get your pet accustomed to the costume, and never leave a costumed pet unsupervised.
If your pet is wary of strangers or has a tendency to bite, put them in a room away from the front door during trick-or-treating hours, or provide them with a safe hiding place.
Keep your pet indoors.

UPDATE I was adopted!
Hi! My name's Teeny and I love to run and give kisses to the staff who care for me. I am 98 pounds of pure joy! I like to play with other dogs as well. If you need someone to love you unconditionally (and who doesn't?) I'm your man. I'll watch you throw tennis balls but don't expect me to return them to you because I would rather stay at your side. I am a 3 year old Great Dane mix that is ready to take up most of your couch and your heart. Come visit me at 900 TCC Road, Hurst 76054. We're open for adoptions M-F 12-5 and Sat 12-4..... PS My adoption fee was sponsored so you can spend all your money buying me treats and toys.

It is so wonderful to be back working with the public to find our adoptable animals the homes they so desperately need and deserve. Thank you for all the encouraging comments and the pictures of our past adoption successes.
We diligently try to monitor our Facebook and answer any questions but occasionally we are so busy that we are not able to reply as quickly as needed. Please know that you are always welcome to call us at 817-788-7216, sometimes that is the quickest way to make contact with us.
In our first official post we would like to address how to view our adoptable pets and our 72 hour stray hold animals and promote our pet of the week. We have begun using 24Petconnect, https://24petconnect.com/ , there you will be able to select Adopt for our adoptable pets or lost my pet to view the animals that are currently 72 hour stray hold, and then filter to select our animal shelter from the list and confirm.

Our pet of the week is Toffee. Toffee has been here for 225 days. Can you imagine that? We can’t and we are putting out a desperate plea on this dog’s behalf, we know it will work because you guys are the greatest and if you can’t adopt you will help us find someone that can. Her adoption fee was sponsored so that she could find her fur-ever home. Toffee is housetrained, knows how to sit, loves ball play and treats. Laid back and easy going. Toffee is a lone ranger preferring to be the only fur baby of the household. 8 years young and objects to the label senior. We are so proud for her to be our first dog of the week post in nearly 3 years, and we know there won’t be a dry eye when she gets adopted because she is one of staff's and volunteers' favorites. Check out her bio on 24 Petconnect, and please share her post, we can't wait to find her a loving home!

🐾 Important Update: Change in Animal Services 🐾

Since 2022, the Humane Society of North Texas (HSNT) has been an incredible partner in managing the adoption side of our animal services. Together, we’ve helped countless animals find loving homes. Recently, HSNT has made the difficult decision to end their contract with the City of Hurst. This decision is purely business-related, allowing them to focus resources on their other locations and streamline operations.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to HSNT for the tremendous impact they’ve made in our community. Their dedication and care have been invaluable to both the City of Hurst and the animals they’ve served. While this partnership is ending, we remain open to working with them again in the future.

🐶 What’s Next? 🐱

The City of Hurst will once again be managing adoptions! To support this, we’ve reactivated our Animal Services and Adoption Center page, where we’ll feature our adoptable pets. We look forward to reconnecting with you there and continuing our mission to find forever homes for the animals in our care. Stay tuned for updates and pet profiles!
