I had to get her touch on video. It makes me giggle every time she runs and jump touches. I also wanted to get a fairly new command (Around) on video too. When there are no distractions she can do it without a treat lure but as you can see from the video she needed it. We were out at a store and people were walking by. Daisy loves people; so, she got distracted. Some would see this as not a good session but I see it as progress! She was able to do the command with a high distraction. She did need help but that’s ok!

Tip: train your dog in all weather (as long as it’s safe for them and you). This will set the tone that no matter what’s going on they need to listen. This will also help them be ok with going outside to potty.😆

Does your dog like to take random things and chew them up? There are a few ways to help get that bad behavior under control. One way to get it under control is build the ‘leave it’ command. Frank likes to steal the girls stuffed animals, random plastic toys and tissues. Tissues seem to be his weakness and will definitely take the most work.

Working on a new trick with Frank. We are doing play dead. His command is PewPew. I have only worked on it when he was already laying down. This morning I wanted to test his skills. He did great!
As you see in the video, I said the command one time. He processed it, got down on the ground and then got stuck. Instead of punishing him or saying it again, I moved myself into the position that we had practiced previously. By doing that, he will learn to do it the first time I give the command. He is one step closer into doing it standing up every time.
Also—-he always fights back before going down. Instead of punishing him I let it happen because I think it’s funny.

With winter coming you might not want to get out and walk but you need a way to burn your dogs energy. Touch is a great “game” to teach your dog. When your dog touches your hand with their nose click, mark with a yes or praise, then throw a treat. This command makes them use their brain and use some energy by going to get the treat. It can also make them use their noses to find the treat. All great things to make a tired pup! Give it a try and let me know how your pup like it!

Worked with Daisy Mae! I was working on a new command- around. This was only her second training session with the command. She preformed a lot better than last lesson. As you can see in this video, she wanted to stop and down instead of following the lure. Instead of getting frustrated or repeating myself (remember you only want to say the command ONCE) I kept showing her the treat to lure her all the way around. I helped her into that position with the lure.
This is a command that can be very useful in service work to create space or if you just need to reposition the dog. It is also a command used when competing in Obedience or Rally.

Socializing a puppy isn’t setting up a ton of play dates with other dogs or people. Yes, exposing your puppy to all types of people and others dogs is important but they don’t have to play with the new people/dog. They need to be trained around new people and dogs. They also, need to be exposed to new places, textures, and sounds. Stevie’s last lesson was at a park. They had a wooden bridge. She was very scared to walk over the bridge. I had them walk over the bridge multiple times until she was more confident! This video was either time 2 or time 3.

Worked on doggie push ups this morning with Frank. This skill is relatively new for him. He still needs a pretty big hand cue. I confused him this morning by doing it while sitting down on the couch. I ended that sessions with his best one! Now, the next time we do this he will need less of the hand cue.
