We are delighted to share, Charlie is on the mend!

He's eating on his own and keeping his food down! He is no longer pooping his pants! He still has horrible diarrhea, but he is doing fantastic otherwise!

Thank you all for your support, and well wishes! He will probably spend another week in foster and we will let you know when he is at the shelter and available for adoption!

Whoever ends up adopting this boy is going to have one little treasure on their hands! He's cat friendly, dog friendly and so incredibly sweet and affectionate! We cannot wait to see what his future holds! Thank you thank you! Thank you!

Juliet went out for a doggy day date recently and here is what our volunteer had to say!

"Juliet is the sweetest and a very curious dog! She loves to get the zoomies and run around. She needs somewhere with a yard to run around. And Jules is house trained and doesn't get into anything! She loves sticking her head out the car window and snuggling up in blankets!"

Juliet has been alone here at the shelter ever since her best friend was adopted. Our kennels are small which has been stressful for such an energetic pup. We are so thankful for our volunteer who gave Juliet a chance to take a break from the shelter life. If you are interested in adopting Juliet, please contact us!

Sometimes you just need a friend to sit with to help you feel better.

Meet Charlie. Charlie was taken to an emergency vet clinic last Friday, where he tested positive for the parvovirus. Unfortunately, we could not afford to keep Charlie at the emergency clinic overnight and, had to come up with a financially feasible plan.

Since last Friday evening, he has been spending his days at Idaho Falls Veterinary Hospital, and his nights at the home of one of our shelter staff members. In the picture, Charlie is spending time with a kitty our shelter helped a few years ago and that was adopted by one of our staff. Charlie loves this cat and this cat loves Charlie. It was an instant friendship and the kitty stays by his side every evening.

Charlie has required 24 hour care. Up until today, he has vomited every time we have tried to get any sort of nutrients into him. He is constantly leaking bloody diarrhea and requires bedding changes every hour. This is hard work and every moment is mentally taxing for all of his caretakers. The most difficult part is not knowing the outcome for such a good boy. Sacrificing sleep is taking its toll on our employee, and we have seen her "just resting her eyes" a few times at her desk as the week goes by. She leaves work, goes directly to Idaho Falls Veterinary Hospital, loads Charlie in her vehicle and spends the evenings cleaning his messes, syringe feeding tiny amounts of liquid calories into him, and trying not to lose hope every time she hears him getting sick.

Today is the best day that Charlie has had. We are finally hopeful that there is a chance this guy will pull through. Today is the first day he hasn't vomited and has finally kept his liquid calories down. Our fingers and toes are crossed. We are holding our breaths and sending all of our good juju his way.

We believe Charlie is a German shorthair pointer mix and is roughly a year old. Charlie could have easily avoided this miserable virus had he been vaccinated. We know a lot of people will say that they cannot afford to take their animals to the vet for vaccinations but at the end of the day, sometimes the cost of not doing so is the animal's life. Also, (we don't love to promote this due to many variables) you can purchase core vaccinations at most feed stores. A little research can go a long way, a very long way.

****Attention***** We are in search of more dog beds for the Idaho Falls Animal Shelter. Specifically, "Kuranda Dog Beds". They are a lot more durable than your average dog bed, easy to clean if a dog has an accident on them and last a lot longer. We intake hundreds of dogs each year and some of the beds have decommissioned due to all the dogs they have seen. Whether you are able to bring the bed directly to the shelter or ship directly to us the dogs will enjoy them. We are not picky on any of the colors but would prefer the larger beds. Meet Cheese McSteezy! She currently is our longest resident for adoption. Cheese came in bad shape as a stray with a broken leg. She is now all healed up and ready to go to her furever home. She does great with dogs and children.

Update: BOTH were adopted! Edith has been with us for a whole whopping 28 days. Furnado has been with us for a combined 23 days. Both are adult kitties in need of a forever home (not together)....They only tolerate each other during play time. Please come in and meet them and see if they are a good fit! Both of their adoption fees have been reduced to $15 to help them find a home!

Roo & Boo found their furever home today! The new owners have been able to give us a sneak peek of these playful kitties new lives. We are so happy for them and we wish these two and their new owners the best. Good luck little ones, we miss you already!

Colt is here to show everyone his favorite blankie! Colt is our longest resident, and he would love to bring his blankie over to your house for a slumber party!

This dog (large dog in video) was brought to us but unfortunately, he is from Jefferson County and that is outside of our legal jurisdiction. We had to turn him away. He was found at Sage Junction and that is no place for a dog to be. PLEASE HELP his finders out! He is the nicest, most well-behaved boy! He is polite, he is seemingly dog friendly and didn't try to eat our resident cat, Nigel, or Boba the puppy. He knows sit, down, shake and seems to be very attentive.
