Hello! We just wanted to give you guys an update on a cat we adopted last year.This is Penelope or Chickpea, as you guys know her! This girl is a character😂 We learn more about her personality each day! She definitely keeps me and her siblings on our toes! She absolutely loves her big brother! She mimics everything he does! She has even learned to chirp just like him😂 She loves to shake her tail at people, and she loves to give kisses to an extent, lol. She loves to play with her toys! Her favorite places to chill are the cat wall and window perch! She has been the perfect addition to our family! She does have a fever coat( which just means her mom was sick or stressed while pregnant), so you will see some white on her tail, lol. The vet said that by the time she is an adult, all the will be gone. She is our little skunk😂 Thank you, guys, for everything!

Moon... Kiwi... Jessie... This sweet girl has known 3 names, 3 families, and loved every family with every fiber of her being. We are hopeful that family number four will be the ones who can provide her with her last ever home. Every single family has told us the same thing: this is an absolutely perfect dog in every single way except one. Jessie's biggest flaw is that she jumps fences up to 8 feet. HOWEVER, she will NOT jump a fence (even as short as 4 feet) if there is hot wire around the top. She also respects e-collars, even at a beep setting. She would do fantastic in an apartment setting, as she is a couch potato..
Jessie does fantastic with kids, cats, dogs, goats, horses, and more. She will chase chickens, but once she catches them, she just licks them. Jessie is potty trained, leash trained, allows nail trims, is great at the vet, knows her basic commands, and her favorite hobby is cuddling. She is so loving and loyal. She wants nothing more than to be with her people, but sometimes the joy of fence hopping calls to her. Please take a chance on Jessie and believe every single family when they said with tears in their eyes that she is an amazing dog. She just needs an electric fence.

UPDATE; Foster Secured!

Once again, the doors to kitten season are cracking open. Little kittens like this little one are peaking their heads out and will soon be brought into the shelter in droves. Right now is when we have a trickle but that will quickly change.

If you are interested in fostering a little, keep an eye on our page, we always post when we need foster help, and we would love to have your help! If you see a post, call us at 208-612-8670, it's easy peasy!

This little guy is Cheddar, and he is just the cutest! He needs someone who is home the majority of the day because he is a single kitten! Cheddar is eating canned kitten food, and we will send you home with food for him. We will need you to come in every two weeks for a weigh-in. We will vaccinate and provide veterinary care. All veterinary care must be approved and scheduled by shelter staff.

A foster kitten handbook will be sent home with you along with an after-hours emergency phone number for our foster coordinator.

You will need a heating pad that does not have an automatic shut-off, a litterbox, and litter. If you rent, you will need to make sure you've spoken with your landlord about being a foster and have their approval.

We will update Cheddar's post when a foster has been secured!

UPDATE: ADOPTED!!!! Waylon's slumber party was a success and his new family called today to finalize his adoption!!! WE ARE OVER THE MOON! GO WAYLON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cue the sad music....

Waylon is so insecure! We know nothing about this little guy, aside from what we have learned about him during his time here. Waylon spends most of his time here just trying to not be seen.

Things we have learned about Waylon.

1. He is so incredibly shy with people
2. He is very insecure around dogs
3. He's gentle, so gentle
4. He is quickly learning how to walk ever so nicely on a leash
5. He has never offered to bite
6. He wiggles his whole butt when he see's people he's getting comfortable with

Things we assume about Waylon (our best guesses)

1. He lived outdoors only (based on his coat and fear of tile floors)
2. He may have been with a group of dogs that were more dominant than he was. (He shows teeth when dogs approach him, but has never escalated beyond that. He also goes on leashed walks with other dogs and is becoming brave enough to sniff their bottoms!)
3. We are guessing that he is roughly 2 years and a red healer mix, with the cutest little nub tail!

Waylon is now neutered, up to date on vaccines and has a microchip and is looking for an adopter with time and patience, who would love to help this horribly insecure boy transform into a real dog!

Apollo, the big goofy dog! Apollo was discovered today covered in brown sticky burrs, looking more like a walking bush than a dog. Despite his unkempt appearance, Apollo's long, cute ears and soulful eyes immediately captured the hearts of everyone he met.

Apollo is a lovable giant who is always eager to make new friends and spread joy wherever he goes. While he may lack some basic leash manners, his enthusiasm and playful nature more than make up for it. "Zala did so well on her doggy day out! She walked well on a prong collar setup & sat and shook for treats. I had her wear a harness and a seat belt on her car ride. She sat calmly & seemed to enjoy being in the car. She takes treats gently and passed many distractions without a care! Took treats from passerbyers gently to. She will make a great addition to the family for whoever snatches her up!"

Do you guys remember Benelli? This sweet cuddly girl captured a few hearts before she went into foster care. Unfortunately, Benelli could not be adopted right away the last time she was here due to an illness she was battling. Her awesome foster family was able to nurse her back to health and now she is ready to find her furrrever home. Her foster family fell in love with her, and it was with a heavy heart that they needed to let her go. Benelli's foster has informed us that she has the most wonderful personality. She is the most playful and cuddly cat you could ever meet. She is very food and treat motivated and has perfect litter box behavior. Does Benelli sound like a perfect fit for your family?

Today we would like to give another shoutout to our friends at Rocks 4 Paws Idaho. They were able to donate some wonderful hand-crafted cat toys for our shelter to use. The cats absolutely loved them. Jeorgia especially loved tossing these toys and chasing them around.

72 DAYS AND COUNTING! KRATOS HAS BEEN TRYING TO FIND A FURRREVER HOME FOR FAR TOO LONG Our lovely volunteers took Kratos out to play in the snow today and they all had a wonderful time. Kratos new found love for snow balls is very charming and put a smile on our faces. Unfortunately Kratos was surrendered to us back in October and has been waiting to find his new home ever since. He tends to be misunderstood here at the shelter due to his vocal and energetic nature. However Kratos is a great dog who has done well with other dogs. Kratos would do great in a home environment, and we are hopeful someone will bring him home soon. If you are willing to give this sweet pup a second chance please let us know.

****Attention***** We are in search of more dog beds for the Idaho Falls Animal Shelter. Specifically, "Kuranda Dog Beds". They are a lot more durable than your average dog bed, easy to clean if a dog has an accident on them and last a lot longer. We intake hundreds of dogs each year and some of the beds have decommissioned due to all the dogs they have seen. Whether you are able to bring the bed directly to the shelter or ship directly to us the dogs will enjoy them. We are not picky on any of the colors but would prefer the larger beds. Kitten Chaos Sunday

Kitten chaos Sunday! They needed a little time to play 🤣

Meet Cheese McSteezy! She currently is our longest resident for adoption. Cheese came in bad shape as a stray with a broken leg. She is now all healed up and ready to go to her furever home. She does great with dogs and children.

SOS! We need some help! We have a guinea pig that is going to be staying with us for an extended amount of time and we are in desperate need of some items to help keep her comfortable! Update: BOTH were adopted! Edith has been with us for a whole whopping 28 days. Furnado has been with us for a combined 23 days. Both are adult kitties in need of a forever home (not together)....They only tolerate each other during play time. Please come in and meet them and see if they are a good fit! Both of their adoption fees have been reduced to $15 to help them find a home!

Roo & Boo found their furever home today! The new owners have been able to give us a sneak peek of these playful kitties new lives. We are so happy for them and we wish these two and their new owners the best. Good luck little ones, we miss you already!
