I have had several requests to write about PSSM 1. There is so much here. I have not felt I could add much that many scientific articles on symptoms and testing that have not already done be written.

I could write something for those who are not regular on the internet and may not be in the internet loop. What publication is best?

When I started this I knew being the gatekeeper was going to be rough but I just could not let this be swept under the rug.

We have the chance to eliminate it while the disease is in its infancy and stop it from being a requirement of registration in 20 years.

I have cried with people who are devastated. I have kept people horses and conversations confidential. I have told multiple people who have begged for information "No". I have advised people to research the horses listed public. I have been yelled at. I have been threatened. I have been made to be the enemy.

Defamation only applies if the information is false.
To prove prima facie defamation, a plaintiff must show four things: 1) a false statement purporting to be fact; 2) publication or communication of that statement to a third person; 3) fault amounting to at least negligence; and 4) damages, or some harm caused to the reputation of the person or entity who is the subject of the statement.

I have no intent to harm nor has anyone that has submitted a horse done it with intent to harm only with intent to help!

To Help the breed as a whole as we are all in this together!

There are supplements to help the horse remain a usable companion. There is embryo testing to continue breeding on a valuable horse.

Its not the end only the beginning of a healthier breed.

These are the bigger horses in pedigrees THEY NOT SUSPECT horses nor do I want anyone to assume they are. I am simply trying to eliminate trees in one direction or another of pedigrees.

Pssm request for information:

I have had little time to work on tracing. However, rumor has come to me that there may be pssm1 positive horses that have not been shared with me. I am asking that for the good of the breed to please come forward. Narrowing the source will help fellow breeders to screen and use embryo testing to preserve the bloodline without pssm1.

As always results are kept in confidence until released by the owner. You may submit to the database and leave the (post public) button unchecked or send me a message privately.

You may confirm with others that I have not released any information without their consent and respect the owners decision to come forward when or if they are ready.

Most people think about dna for their animals when they are on a color quest but I wanted to point out that UC Davis may very well be interested in knowing about horses with congenital or other issues they are studying. So if you have can pull hair and preserve dna. Send them an email and ask them if it is one they would like to have for a study.
