Cookie was born 3/20/2018 and is a gorgeous long haired, Black and Tan Piebald Mini Dachshund. Cookie is shy and fearful, but is quickly coming around. Miss Cookie is a force onto herself when she has a mind to be. However, she is most definitely not going to pass up love & attention when it’s offered. Fiercely independent but always looking for praise & approval. She enjoys spending her time outdoors patrolling the ‘compound’ making sure that all is well. Keeping chickens & assorted livestock in their place without unnecessary chatter, she’s more of a silent enforcer. However she is always open to a break in her duties for a little playtime. She enjoys playing fetch and every day is getting better at bringing the toy back to be thrown again. She has taken to everyone that she has met with a little patience and quiet encouragement. Once she becomes comfortable with the people around her she seems more than happy share her love with everyone. However she ultimately will return to her post inside or out to better survey any challenges to her kingdom. Extremely responsive to more low key correction & redirection for any mischievous behavior. A squeaky toy for a tissue is an excellent trade in her mind. She will challenge the kitties but only until they call her bluff & she has seamlessly taken to her other doggo companions. She has learned the doggie door quickly and is crate trained. Cookie is great with other dogs, fine with cats and older kids. Cookie needs a gentle family, with a friendly and confident canine sibling, no small children and a house with an enclosed yard.

It is so difficult to let these babies go. Today, Gracy, the last Dachshund puppy left us and will be going to New Jersey. We are a family breeder and get very attached. If only all the pups could stay on the hill. We feel an emptiness today.

We have some new arrivals this weekend we want to introduce!

First is a 10 month old teenie tiny girl. She weighs 5 pounds right now and is adorable. However, it will be some time before she is ready to be adopted. She has a slight megaesophagus that is being assessed and treated by our vet. Megaesophagus is a disorder in which the esophagus (the tube that carries food and liquid between the mouth and stomach) dilates (gets larger) and loses motility (its ability to move food into the stomach). When esophageal motility is decreased or absent, food and liquid accumulate in the esophagus and have difficulty getting into the stomach. She is not available until we know more about her condition so we can be sure any potential adopter can be made aware of what to expect.

*However, we are willing to have this baby go in a “Foster to Adopt” scenario right now. It would have to be someone familiar with the condition she has AND able to take her back and forth to her vet checks at our vet in Hesperia. We pay for the vet visits but you would need to take her.
