We got to see our good friend Ransom today! He is 17.5 lbs but he is very skinny. Looks like he weighs more but he needs to gain some weight. I couldn’t even lift him. He is such a wonderful Maine C**n cat.

Please note that we see this every year and it breaks our heart because it’s completely preventable. Please do not take your dog out on hot pavement. Please wait until the sun goes down and you can rest your hand on the pavement.

Please be very careful with the heat and humidity because dogs cannot sweat like you and I can and they can overheat very easily.

To my human moms & dads, this is what happens to my paws when you take me out in the scorching sun ☀️ when the pavement is so hot !

Remember I sweat through my paws, so in this heat I can’t get rid of my sweat as my paws are burning. Missing my walk won’t harm me. Please let me just relax indoors and take me out when the sun is down🐾

If you see someone walking their dog on hot pavement, ask them to take off their shoes for the remainder of their walk home. Maybe then they'll understand.

Yes - please realize that Xylitol (sugar substitute) is now being labeled as Birch Sugar - it is the same thing, but it is very toxic to dogs.

Please make sure that any human food do not contain this if you are giving it to your dog.

We can’t imagine that it’s very good for people either if it is so toxic to dogs. Any artificial sweetener is taxing to your pancreas and can contribute to Type 2 diabetes in people.

Dr. Page is home from her vacation visiting all the animals in Kenya. It was a trip of a lifetime but she is happy to be home.

Please know the weather is extremely hot in our area and please be aware to keep your animals indoors and always provide cool water.

Dogs cannot sweat other than their feet and please understand that the pavement can get extremely hot and cause burns to their footpads.

Signs of overheating in your dog are panting, drooling, and dark colored mucus membranes in their mouth. Their normal temperature should not go over 102-103. Please contact your veterinarian if you think your dog has heat exhaustion.

**ATTENTION CLIENTS - CLOSURE UPDATE**

Please be aware that on this Friday 5/31/2024, Green Valley Animal Hospital will be closing at 3:00pm due to our parking lot being paved. We are sorry for the inconvenience as we are trying to expand the parking lot to allow for more parking spaces. We will be back open to our normal hours on Saturday 6/1/24 from 7am to 2pm.

There will be a service to celebrate the life of Dr Elizabeth Schultz on June 2 at 2:00pm at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Ijamsville.

This will be a great time to gather and share wonderful stories of a woman who dedicated her life to the care of animals. 

She meant so much to so many people in our community. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School and she was the fifth female veterinarian in the state of Maryland. She started her small practice out of the milk house on her family farm and used to ride her motorcycle to do house calls. She was quite a character.

She was the owner of Urbana Animal Hospital and previous owner of my hosptial Green Valley Animal Hospital - Maryland.

Please come and help us celebrate her life.
