Furkid Boarding by Heather King

Furkid Boarding by Heather King Furkid Boarding is run by Heather King and is a home away from home for your small non-shedding dog! This is the perfect solution!
(19)

Don't want your small non-shedding companion dog to be boarded in a kennel spending time all alone while you are on vacation? They live with us as our pet until you return home. We have a fenced in back yard and dogs are taken out as needed for potty breaks/exercise. Adult dogs must be potty trained, crate trained or able to be confined in some way when no one is home, dog friendly and kid friendl

y. (Unfortunately we cannot accomodate small dogs who use potty pads indoors.) We've been boarding small non-shedding dogs in our home for the last 16+ years. We will administer any medication needed and can follow a special diet. We will also comfort your pet during scary times like thunderstorms or fireworks. Pricing:
Adults (over 1 year) $35 per day
Puppies (under 1 year) and adults who require extra supervision $40 per day

If you are interested in booking my in home boarding services, please contact me to set up a meet 'n' greet, which is the first step to booking a reservation. E-mail me at [email protected] or use the message feature on this page.

šŸ›‘ DCM link to GRAIN-FREE remains UNFOUNDED šŸ›‘

From the first day the FDA and veterinary cardiologists and nutritionists labeled grain-free BEG diets as causing DCM in dogs, I called šŸ®šŸ’©. This was just a ploy by the large pet food manufacturers using their influence on FDA to single out smaller companies that are gaining an increase in market share.

šŸ’°Unfortunately, their ploy worked, resulting in discontinuation of many wonderful pet foods and huge revenue losses for good companies.

āŒ The veterinary community has bought into this rhetoric, often recommending a return to poor quality, grain-filled, low-meat diets for pets.

Can certain high quality grains provide benefits for some dogs? Yes.
Do I recommend diets filled with grains or legumes and potatoes? No.

Morning shenanigans

Politely declining attention - itā€™s tough to see from a picture but let me illustrate why what you are seeing in this photo is SO IMPORTANT! In this lesson, Barry is learning a new way to ā€œmeetā€ people - as in - not physically interacting with them at all so he doesnā€™t feel he will have to interact with people he doesnā€™t want to. He can be quite reactive when someone oversteps his boundaries before heā€™s ready (I can totally relate, Barry).

So - he did quite well parallel walking with his new friend and after accepting some friendly approaches with the stranger dropping treats, he lightly shifted his hips in the opposite direction of the stranger and checked in with me. That was a beautifully polite way for Barry to say - thank you, thatā€™s enough.

So often people miss these signs that seem barely there to us but are more obvious to the dog attempting to communicate.

Be an advocate for your dog and accept their polite subtleties- that in itself can decrease the likelihood they will feel the need to aggressively communicate to someone.

Raise your hand if your puppy didn't naturally want to be calm and peaceful when learning to spend time in their crate šŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

As a dog trainer and breeder I can tell you there are many wonderful ways to gently teach your dog this important skill, but the easiest reliable method I've found is... A snuffle mat!

Toss treats (or a full kibble meal) into the ruffles and let your pup root around for their food. Not only are they instantly rewarded for behavior that precludes barking or scratching at the door, they are also getting in a good nose workout which helps satisfy instinctual needs as well as tiring them out and potentially getting them into a good mood for even taking a nap in the crate šŸ‘Œ

Snuffle mats are my original and top-selling product. I started using them a couple years ago to help prepare my litters for their new homes and I honestly consider them a game-changer šŸŒž
