Pool will be open Tuesday, Wednesday and possibly Friday this week… be sure to sign up at the front desk if you want your dog to be able to use the pool during daycare. If your dog is boarding with us and you want them to use the pool, please send us an email at [email protected]. Please do not let us know in the comment section, as it can easily be missed and we would hate for that to happen.

As many of you know, my Mom’s golden retriever recently passed away at only a year old due to breeder negligence. I truly believe there is purpose to our pain. That evening after Rikki passed I immediately started researching regulations/ laws for breeders in NC, as well as other States. The State of NC does not have any laws or regulations set for breeders who have less than eleven females, they are considered “hobby breeders”. Majority of the breeders are “hobby breeders” in NC. I also met and spoke with reputable breeders in our area to help educate myself on the breeding world. I spoke and met with veterinarians to better understand their experiences, in addition to my own. Unfortunately we have seen too many purebreds at Big Red’s who have passed away under 2 years old because of terminal cancers/ diseases/ illnesses/ heart defects due to overbreeding, unclean conditions for the litters and breeding dogs that have known health issues. The State holds dog boarding facilities, doggy daycares and veterinarians to very high standards and yearly inspections, as they should… but not the hobby breeders who are bringing life into this world. I can’t just sit here and continue to watch more puppies die due to breeder negligence. I am gathering testimonies to present to the State to help push hobby breeders to also be held to a high standard… and hopefully help prevent future puppies/ young dogs from dying prematurely and leaving behind their devastated families.
