PLEASE LISTEN TO THIS PODCAST if you baby talk your dog and your dog has behavioral issues. YOU are unknowingly making the problem worse. Dogs need a leader. Not singling anyone out. I can think of 30 people off the top of my head that do this. Heck, I used to do this!! Now that I’m always thinking in dog trainer mode while out walking dogs, I witness the baby talk backfire often.
The way we softly coddle our kids, doesn’t work with most dogs because their brains see and hear it as lack of leadership, and they feel the need to help, fix, take charge, guard their baby talker/human that spoils them rotten & develop or worsen separation anxiety. This is because they see and hear our consoling or anxious voice as weak or in need of help. Unless they’re a trained emotional support animal, it’s not fair to them to put this kind of pressure on them. If I feel a cry or meltdown coming on, I go outside or I put my dog outside & I DO NOT let my dog witness or hear it!!!! Be a confident leader so your dog can relax and be a dog! Katie Rice

🤣This big handsome slobbery boy & I are spending a lot of time together this weekend. Took me a few minutes to get him leashed up the first visit but he relaxed & we had such a fun walk. Finished my first week with the newest members of my pack. These Chesapeake Bay Retrieves stole my heart already. They were a handful at first, as they are in a new home, new surroundings, new routine, new walker… but they respond great to training so our walks are already becomming fun adventures around the Butler campus. First day they tried to walk me so we set some boundaries & smooth sailing ever since. I’m just getting to know their funny personalities. We are lucky our dog doesn’t hate fireworks but I just went to do an 8pm dog walk & it lasted about 2 minutes. My job during the 4th holiday🤦‍♀️.
