1. What is your role at First Wave?
I am Sr Manager Commercialization & Business for FW Innovation Lab at DFC. That's just a big name for saying that on the one hand, I am securing partnerships rules and/or protection of IP for our innovations by negotiating contracts and agreements with companies we get involved with in Innovation activities. On the other hand, I am a resource for our team to offer complex problem-solving if we have a technical dilemma. We need an external development partner or someone with insight in research/technology, or we need someone with skills and potential to be a future viable source.


2. What makes the First Wave R&D process superior to others?
I only know our suppliers and development partners' R&D process and Delta's earlier R&D process. If I compare with that, I will say there are two major differentiators:
A. Focus on what paying customers' wants and needs are when creating something, making sure the creation is of value for the market.

B. Aim for higher level and higher risk innovations, we call them A+, to sustain Delta's competitive edge on the market. But also carry the challenging work of de-risking what is new and different for business before these creations are moving past FW R&D boundaries to our other Delta teams.

3. What has been your favorite R&D project in your career?
This is difficult to answer for me because I get invested in each project I work on in diverse ways. I have two equal favorites: Glass Rinser and Voice IQ. Each of them had its challenges and differences in ex*****on. Still, in the end, it brought great satisfaction to get it to the end line and see it grow. Glass Rinser is one of my favorites because it turned out to be such a great story for being a Delta "un-wanted" project in the beginning. It makes me happy every time I see it on TikTok or use it in my kitchen.

4. Do you have any pets?
Yes, I have 2 Italian Greyhounds and sometimes forget that they are dogs😊. I treat them as my kids (now that I have none living at home). They're super spoiled and are definitively part of the family. I am a big dog lover; no matter how my day goes, they always make me feel better.

5. What do you love about R&D?
The sense of freedom – unlimited creativity and everything is possible! The passion the team has for what is new and embracing what is different, being curious and inquisitive, and open to experimenting, testing, and learning. It is an energetic environment with a very smart group of people that makes me humble about what I know and how much more I have to learn. And I love how much my colleagues in R&D like to share their passion and knowledge with others!
