Hi friends, this is Joe! He doesn't let his blindness slow him down, and is always up for a fun game of fetch. 🎾

He may be a little shy at first, but give him a moment, and he'll warm up to you with all the love in the world! When he came to IndyHumane, he had a severe case of Pannus, a condition that affects the eyes, and because it went untreated for so long, it was necessary to remove both of his eyes. But don’t worry—he doesn't let that stop him from being the sweetest boy! 🥰

Joe is now looking for a calm, patient, and loving home where he can recover and thrive. He is a classic intelligent German Shepard who is eager to learn and have a "job", plus he seems to be housetrained too! 🏡

Since his past is a mystery, we don’t know how he does yet with other dogs, cats, or kids just yet. But one thing is for sure—he's ready to find his perfect match and finally get the love he deserves! Could it be you?

Bow Down to Queen Tootsie! 👑 Meet Tootsie, a diva who knows she’s fabulous! This stunning girl makes a grand entrance wherever she goes—strutting her stuff, inspecting every inch of her kingdom, and hissing at anything that doesn’t meet her royal standards (yes, even the furniture! 😆).

But once she’s settled in? Tootsie transforms into a sweet, affectionate companion who loves attention, gentle petting, and curling up in your lap for long naps. She thrives in a calm, quiet home where she can reign as the one and only feline queen (or coexist with a low-key cat who respects her space).

Tootsie has come through our shelter twice now, through no fault of her own. 💔 She’s ready for a forever throne where she can rule with love! Could your home be the one?

Last Friday, we got a call we never expected—from the incredible BISSELL Pet Foundation! Just as we were wrapping up for the day, we learned that a Pilots To The Rescue flight, coordinated by BISSELL Pet Foundation, was unexpectedly grounded at the Indianapolis Airport. The plane, originally traveling from Louisiana to Grand Rapids, Michigan, was full of 57 puppies and dogs with nowhere to go. 🐶✈️

Even though our shelter is in crisis, our team knew we had to step up. We quickly loaded up our transport vans and rescued every pup off the plane, bringing them to the warmth and safety of our heated garage for the night. By morning, a transport van arrived to take them the rest of the way to their final destination after lots of love from our team.

Days like this truly make all the tough ones worth it. This was a team effort from multiple organizations that never stop fighting for animals in need—and neither do we. 🐾

IndyHumane Summer Camp Registration is NOW OPEN! ☀️

Is your child an animal lover? 🐶🐱 Give them a summer to remember at our Summer Camp—where we combine fun, education, and our furry friends!

This year, we are hosting two amazing camps!

YOUTH CAMP (Ages 8-12) – A week-long day camp filled with hands-on animal interactions, behind-the-scenes shelter experiences, creative projects, and classic camp fun! 🎨🐾

📅 Youth Camp Sessions:
✔️ Week 1: 06/09 – 06/13
✔️ Week 2: 06/16 – 06/20
✔️ Week 3: 06/23 – 06/27
✔️ Week 4: 07/07 – 07/11
✔️ Week 5: 07/14 – 07/18
✔️ Week 6: 07/21 – 07/25
⏰ 10 AM - 4 PM (Extended care available)

🐾 Daily animal interactions
🎨 Creative projects (like decorating a ceiling tile for our shelter!)
🎯 Fun games—including the camp-favorite “Where’s My Chicken?”
🐕 Learn about shelter operations & animal welfare advocacy

TEEN CAMP (Ages 13-15) – A hands-on, immersive experience for teens interested in animal welfare! Our teen campers will work with our shelter dogs on clicker training, shadow different departments, and explore careers in vet care and animal advocacy.

Meet Cosmos! ❤️ This gentle old soul is 15 years old and weighs just 5 pounds. After losing his owner, Cosmos found himself scared and confused in a new environment. But thanks to our incredible volunteers, he’s not facing it alone.

Liz, one of our amazing volunteers, spent time in his kennel, patiently earning his trust. She then sat with him in the hallway, hand-feeding him soft food and treats to make sure he was eating. Acts of kindness like this are what make IndyHumane such a special place—not just for the animals, but for the people who care for them.

Cosmos is just one of the many animals who rely on the compassion of our volunteers. We are always in need of volunteers to help make a difference for these deserving animals.
