We are ecstatic to share the progress of our long-term breeding project with crocodile monitors! This project has been 6 years in the making and has already produced 3 captive bred crocodile monitors and a 2nd clutch with the first female.

This second gravid female will get us one step closer to achieving generational depth with captive bred crocodile monitors, which has not been seen in the US. We plan on holding back the babies from this female and the other female and eventually pairing them together to accomplish this.

This female has been with Reptek since she was a baby and the male is from the Amethistina Project. With patience and dedication, they have developed a strong bond with us over the years, as you can see from this hand feeding.

Please note that hand feeding crocodile monitors is not advised. These animals are very socialized and handled by a professional.

BUYERS BEWARE

Michael Thorn advertised a pair of ‘16 Timor Pythons, claiming to be breeder sized adults, in the Timor Python group recently. A friend and I are compiling a sizable group of this species for breeding, so the opportunity to acquire new blood, and adult animals nonetheless, peaked our interest. He sent pictures and information about the snakes, everything seemed to be copasetic. His price was a bit high, but for the opportunity to get adults raised from babies, it was worth the risk. He requested payment in the form of a check only (first red flag), but listed many references, most of whom I am close to, so I went through with the deal.

The deal all went south from there. I requested that he ship to my friend who has most of the adults so that the group could all be in one place. Michael condescendingly questioned me about my motive, and asked me to email him my request to ship to my friend. When my friend received the snakes, they were about as far from what was advertised to me as they could have been. The snakes we received are maybe 4’ tops, FAR from breeder size. On top of the misrepresentation of size, the female is missing a chunk out of her bottom lip, which he failed to inform of prior to the transaction.

When confronted by this, he proceeded to take no accountability for his false advertisement. He doubled down by using irrelevant anecdotal evidence to justify the size of the animals. I have been keeping Timor pythons for the better part of a decade. Between my friend and I there are over 30 animals in the group. We know the size and growth patterns of these snakes. There are two options here: either the snakes are much younger than he claims they are, or they were severely underfed in his care. Either way the animals we received were not what I paid for.

Immediately upon receiving the animals we made it known to him that we were unhappy with what we received. We asked for a partial refund to reflect the true value of the snakes, or a full refund with us shipping the snakes back to him. As we expected, he was not receptive to either idea and was extremely dismissive of our concerns. I then reached out to every one of his references. Some of them had no idea who he is, and those who did know him agreed wholeheartedly with my stance on the matter. One of his references reached out to try to help my cause, and in return Michael started calling me derogatory names and acted with a complete absence of professionalism.

At this point, I know that the deal is done and there is no hope of the situation being made right. My hope at this point is that others can be made aware of how this person does business and will use caution before buying animals from him.
