Did you attend the 2024 Cat Video Fest at Kan-Kan Cinema & Restaurant? A portion of the ticket purrchases went to support our work at FACE, so thank mew! Watching cats do amusing cat things helps us provide spay/neuter services to the cats in this photo, who are all having a sort of post-surgery sleepover. They’re all tucked in and being monitored, but they'll be back to their playful selves soon, maybe creating content for next year's videos! Thanks again to everyone who attended the screenings and to Kan-Kan for contributing to our efforts for cats (and dogs).

Will you continue Bob Barker’s legacy and donate to our spay/neuter efforts at FACE?

https://facelowcostanimalclinic-bloom.kindful.com/

To celebrate 25 years of vet care for Indianapolis dogs and cats, we’re digging through our archive and sharing some of the treasures we uncover, like this promotional video made by Bob Barker himself.

Before FACE opened its doors in 1999, we needed funding to build our facility and meet the euthanasia crisis head-on. With assistance from Bob Barker, we were able to raise $180,000, triggering an additional $20,000 donation from Bob Barker’s DJ & T Foundation.

Prior to opening, there were no high-volume, low-cost spay/neuter clinics in the Indianapolis area, prompting FACE founders to start their own! 25 years later and FACE has significantly impacted the euthanasia rate in Indianapolis by completing more than 313,000 spay/neuter surgeries.

As Bob says in the video, “It’s cheaper to fix them, than it is to kill them.” Donate to FACE today and be a part of our mission to keep dogs and cats happy, healthy, and with their families.

Our staff are very much in the Olympic spirit as they athletically tend to our patients. We might also have a series of Olympic-ish events happening during lunch breaks, with entirely fabricated countries vying for the most medals. Although we may not be world-class athletes in the pool noodle javelin, coffee cup obstacle racing, or sticky hand archery, we're all gold medalists when it comes to taking care of our patients. Purrito wrapping in the 2028 Olympics? We're booking our tickets to LA already.

FACE board member and award-winning photographer, Ellie Sophia Pet Photography LLC, was highlighted on Life Style Live this morning. She shared a bit about her process and the fundraising she does with her photography practice, such as public sessions that benefit our work at FACE. The attention her photography receives is well deserved!

Anesthesia doesn't do us any favors when it comes to putting on our best face, but when you're as cute as these Shih Tzu housemates, it doesn't even matter. These well-groomed muppets came to us for their neuter surgeries, ensuring they won't contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, promoting positive behavior, and protecting themselves from potential disease later in life. Thanks for coming into FACE guys. Go forth and live your cutest, neutered lives!

Need a spay/neuter appointment? We have openings available! Just schedule online at www.FaceAnimalClinic.org

We have had an increase in declawing requests at our clinic, so felt it was pertinent to reshare this post we created. FACE does not offer declawing as a service and more clinics are removing this service as the practice is being viewed as cruel by the pet care industry. Read our post for alternatives to declawing your cat.

Declawing cats is increasingly recognized as an inhumane and unethical practice. It is banned in many countries along with two states in the U.S. More than a dozen local governments have also enacted bans, with more veterinarians refusing to perform the procedure. FACE Low-Cost Animal Clinic is included in that list of clinics who do not offer the procedure.

The Humane Society of the United States - Indiana recently hosted a webinar on declawing and legislative efforts against the procedure. Our own Dr. Snyder, Director of The Paw Project - Indiana, was a professional on the panel. In addition to local and state bans to declawing, bills have also been introduced that would prohibit landlords from requiring declawing as a condition of tenancy.

Why is declawing inhumane for cats?
- It can cause long-term pain
- Can cause cats to become more aggressive
- Declawed cats are more likely to exhibit litter box avoidance
- Declawed cats are at a higher risk of being surrendered to shelters
- Altered movement can cause arthritis

What are humane alternatives to declawing cats?
- Regular nail trimming
- Nail caps such as "Soft Paws" or "Soft Claws"
- Providing ample scratching posts and surfaces
- Double-sided sticky tape for furniture

This good boy is our patient, Hershey, and his owner. Hershey was a little frustrated at his vaccine visit because there were other dogs in the lobby, but he wasn't allowed to play with them. Otherwise, he was in very happy spirits. Hershey came in for his vaccines, along with his three housemate cats who gets along with just fine. One of his housemates named Cat runs the crew, but is a little more submissive with Hershey.

Everyone in this pet crew came to their loving home as strays or surrenders from previous owners. We're just glad they have a good home and an owner who protects them with vaccines at our clinic. Thanks for bringing them in!

Our friends at Bedel Financial Consulting recently brought a volunteer crew to help with a number of tasks at our nonprofit clinic. In addition to easing the burden of our hardworking staff, they also received an eye-opening tour of our clinic operations. It was a Spay Day during their visit, so a highlight was the visit to our cat room where a number of highly active kittens were providing post-anesthesia entertainment.

Interested in volunteering at our clinic? We have individual, group, and corporate options available. Visit our site at https://faceanimalclinic.org/get-involved/, fill out the volunteer application, and we'll be in touch!

Thank you Bedel Financial Consulting for contributing to our mission to reduce unnecessary euthanasia for Indianapolis dogs and cats!

What a purrty set of nails! This is our patient, Mango, relaxing and looking good while waiting for his neuter surgery. Mango is sporting the multi-colored look of the summer in his protective nail covers. Nail covers are a humane alternative to declawing, and can be applied by an owner, groomer, or some vet clinics. Although FACE does not offer nail covers as a service, keep an ear up for a nail trim special we'll be announcing soon!

For more info about nail covers, the National Cat Groomers Institute offers 5 myths here - https://nationalcatgroomers.com/nail-cap-myths/

Say hello to 7-year-old Shih Tzu, Kirby, and his owner. He came to FACE for his DAPP/Lepto and Bordetella boosters and to receive a heartworm test. Kirby is well protected now!

Kirby's owner has always brought their pets to us for our low-cost services. Kirby had a housemate that used to be a FACE patient, but sadly, they were attacked by an unleashed dog. We're glad to still be able to treat this well-loved fur baby as our patient.

Do you need your pets protected against so many dangerous diseases? Schedule an appointment for vaccines or boosters at www.faceanimalclinic.org/services/vaccine-clinic.

FACE was recognized at last night’s City-County Council meeting in celebration of 25 years of care to Indianapolis dogs and cats. A resolution, introduced by and co-sponsored by Councilors Nick Roberts, and Jesse Brown, was presented to FACE Executive Director Jen Hancock, with board members, staff, and volunteers present.

The resolution details our work to drive down the euthanasia rate in Indianapolis since our doors opened in 1999 as a high-quality, high-volume nonprofit clinic. In addition to our spay/neuter and vaccination services, our pop-up clinics and Spay Days were recognized as well.

After 25 years of vet care, FACE Low-Cost Animal Clinic has provided spay/neuter services to more than 312,000 animals. This total translates into the prevention of an estimated 9 million animals entering our city’s shelter, burdening foster and rescue organizations, or becoming lost.

Our work, however, is not complete. We continue to address the pet overpopulation crisis through our spay/neuter, vaccination, and preventative services every day. We have made great progress keeping dogs and cats with their families after 25 years of high-quality, high-volume vet care, but we strive to find creative solutions to pet overpopulation heading into the next 25 years.

Thank you to the city of Indianapolis for recognizing our efforts as a nonprofit clinic, and thank you to our donors, partner organizations, board members, staff, and clients for contributing to our success for Indianapolis dogs and cats.

We appreciate the transparency IACS demonstrates with these numbers. They help the animal welfare community assess and respond to the pet overpopulation crisis our city faces. Read further into the post and learn how to assist IACS and Indianapolis dogs and cats.

From June 21-27, IACS has taken in 82 dogs. In that same time, we have had 68 dogs leave the building.

We’re sharing these numbers to demonstrate just one factor in our capacity for care. This past week, our intake outpaced our ability to place animals with adopters, fosters, rescue organizations and off-site partners. Every week, we need the community’s support to reduce overcrowding at the shelter.

We know not everyone can welcome a new pet into their home, but you can also help by:
• Encouraging someone who has lost their pet to check regularly at the shelter and on https://www.indylostpetalert.com.
• Searching for the owner of a lost pet in the area where you found it before surrendering it to the shelter
• Posting details about lost pet sightings to social media channels and websites (such as https://www.indylostpetalert.com and https://petcolove.org/lost)

Meeting people's needs doesn't stop with just one service. We provide affordable vet care to all in numerous ways, but we recognize that disparities can compound upon each other and create continued barriers to access. In an effort to meet a variety of needs, Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana Inc. is set up in our lobby once a month through September, offering information regarding services, assistance, and programs that lie outside the field of vet care.

By partnering with other organizations, we seek to create equitable access to a variety of services. When clients are able to meet all their needs, they no longer need to debate finding care for their pets or themselves.

Thank you to our partners at Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana for helping us to bridge more gaps to access.

It was a beautiful day at Wes Montgomery Park this past Saturday, where we provided vaccines to 284 dogs and cats in just a few hours! With support from our partners at Banfield Foundation, we brought our vaccine clinic to the park, helping people overcome barriers to vet care access such as cost, transportation, and scheduling. It was our pleasure to protect all these loved animals from dangerous diseases like parvovirus, panleukopenia, rabies, and more.

A special thanks to Rachel from FIDO - Friends of Indianapolis Dogs Outside and all our volunteers and board members who kept the operation running smooth.

We'll see you at our next pop-up clinic at Frederick Douglass Park in September!

Kitten Mittens! Cats don't actually enjoy dressings on their paws, but we supply them for kittens after surgery to keep their temperature stable. It's one of the ways we make sure our patients are always safe and comfortable. We can't help it if it's also really, really cute.

These two babies came to us from Indianapolis Animal Care Services and will be ready for adoption soon. Visit the IACS socials to learn about adoption procedures.

THIS Saturday, June 15, is our first of two pop-up clinics for the year. Enabled, in part, by a partnership with Banfield Foundation, we will be providing vaccinations to your dog and/or cat for only $5 per animal.

We will hold this first clinic at Wes Montgomery Park (3400 N. Hawthorne) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dogs will receive the rabies and DAPP vaccine and cats will receive the rabies and FVRCP vaccine.

Dogs must be on a short, fixed leash and cats must be in a secure, hard-case carrier. Pets must be at least 6 weeks old to be eligible for services.

This is a first-come, first-serve clinic. We will run until 1 p.m. unless supplies run out prior.

Make your community cat famous! The deadline for our 2025 community cat calendar is nearing. We'll stop taking submission on June 15 (this Saturday), so we can take our time picking our 14 favorite photos to grace the pages of next year's calendar. Send us the best photos of your eartipped cuties and help us raise funds for our community cat program.

If we choose your photo we can't promise your community cat will become a runway model or social media influencer, but we can guarantee they will help us provide services for other community cats. We think that's even better!
