Songbird populations all over the country are plumetting and we all have an obligation to do our part to prevent it. Sometimes that means growing a pair and dealing with some p**p or unsightly nests for a few weeks while babies grow up.

Unfortunately, many landlords and business owners have active nests “cleaned up” and disposed of as if they’re trash. Native birds’ nests are, at worst, a temporary inconvenience. Most people enjoy seeing and hearing birds and watching them raise their young.

Aside from being cruel and illegal, killing a bunch of baby birds is also not a good way to keep your tenants or customers happy. If you’re a landlord or business owner and have tenants or customers complaining about native bird nests, simply inform them that the nests are protected by federal law and that you’ll remove them when the babies have left the nests. No big deal!

We’re asking all of our supporters to help us protect native birds. If you know of a property owner or maintenance company that is destroying active native songbird nests or killing adult or baby native birds, please report them to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at 1-800-344-WILD or [email protected].

A litter of baby bobcats were seized and brought to us by officials for rehab. These guys are cute but they’re a handful! Not for the faint of heart. While they look cute and cuddly, their nails are RAZOR sharp, not like a house cat, think tiny boxcutters 😅. They’re prime predators, made for hunting. We added tortoise food to the top of our Chewy wishlist if anyone can donate a bag! We’re almost out and we have many rescue tortoises that are permanent residents here at our sanctuary. $40 buys a 25lb bag!

This was no easy task and we owe the biggest thanks to Joey Sisca and helpers for saving our enclosure. We hate to take down a tree but it was growing into our aviary and the roots were about to ruin our pond! These guys did a phenomenal job, and we’re so appreciative.

We have a very harsh cold snap rolling in the next few days. We’re really hoping to get some heavy blankets and hay bales (coastal or straw no alfalfa) donated before it arrives to keep our outdoor animals safe.
