Hey Pack! Nicole Here 👋🏻
Wanted to give you an update on my boy Hudson; since so many of you donated to his surgery fund and have been following his story.
Hudson turned a year old on August 1st! He is 43 pounds and a happy puppy. We have medically managed him up until this point.
Today we dropped Hudson off for his liver shunt surgery at Vet Specialty Center in Bannockburn.
If everything goes to plan our little guy should be home latest Friday. Today he gets surgery prep with his CT scan and recheck of blood work.
Tomorrow will be the big surgery to repair the shunt so his blood flows through his liver properly. We still have a long road ahead of us but we are getting closer to getting to the end.
Thank you all for the support as always. ❤️
Just a bunch of barking besties to help brighten up your day! Have a great rest of your week everyone 🐶☀️
His name might be Zero, but he’s a 10/10 in our books!
Zero has been apart of the pack for a while now, but he certainly deserves his own post! We’ll see you around Zero 😎🐾
Happy Friday folks! No better way to start the weekend than with your best buddy! 🐾🥰
Check out our brand new gear! We got shirts, windbreakers, and even winter hats all with our name on it so you won’t miss us!
Skunk Happens 🦨!!
Oscar was sprayed by a skunk this past Saturday night. So his parents called us up for an emergency TLC to take care of the stank 🤢.
Not only did he receive our skunk treatment but he also got a fresh new cut. He’s all dapper and smelling good now ❤️

Luke (left) and Maya (right) are two Great Pyrenees dogs whose beautiful white fur may remind you of a certain apex predator…
Don’t worry though, these two are just as cute and goofy as the rest of the crew 😊🤍

Are we seeing double?! ❤️❤️
Grimm(big dog) and Piper(mini me) have been clients for a while now (6 years). I have always wanted to get a picture of them together but they have never been here at the same time. It’s always interesting to see rescue dogs that look alike since DNA is so different in each dog. It’s especially strange to see two with the brindle coat patterns. Oddly enough they also have very similar personalities to each other. Makes me wonder what they have in common 🤔Any Guesses?
Happy 4th of July from our friends to yours ❤️ Stay safe and enjoy the fireworks tonight 🎆🎆🇺🇸
🚨 New member alert! 🚨
Say hi to Romeo! He is a very good boy and we can’t wait to work with him. See you around Romeo 😊🐾
The 4th is right around the corner! The holiday may be your favorite, but it can also be a really ruff time for your furry companion. We’ll give you some tips to make sure you and your pet can have fun and be safe this weekend:
1. Make sure all of the information on their identification tags is up to date
2. If your pet has a microchip, make sure your contact information is up to date in the microchip registry
3. Take a current photo of all of your cats, dogs and horses— just in case.
4. Get a tracking device, like an apple air tag, and connect it to your pet’s collar so you can track them from your phone
5. Consider taking the day off and heading to a calmer place with your pet. Play with a frisbee, hike in the near by trails, or do some training sessions to ensure that they will be tired and want to sleep at home
We’d like to introduce the newest members of our pack, Frankie and Teddy! The two are brothers and will fit right into the fam❤️🐾
Long overdo post….
Everyone please welcome to the pack Nefeli (Nef).
Nef has been with us for about a year now.
She grew up in Grayslake and now lives in the area with her fiancé and pitbull mix Meli.
She not only is one of the most humble and trustworthy people you will ever meet. But Nef is truly a BadA** and an incredible athlete. Nef is a Judo Olympian and represents Team USA. She competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics games. She still competes in many competitions as of today. Oh and By the way she still continues to dominate in her competitions everyday.
Nef coaches adults and kids at the local gyms in the area. She often holds clinics and private lessons as well. So if yourself or your kid is looking for a new hobby/great work out I would definitely recommend reaching out to her.
Aside from her coaching and training; Nef helps with the daily dog walks for us. Nef grew up with dogs her whole life and has a soft spot for big dogs and rescues. When training Nef on all the dogs, they all instantly trusted her taking care of them. Which is not something that happens often so I knew Nef was going to be a great asset to our team. We are very lucky to have her ❤️❤️
Everyone Please give a warm Welcome to Matthew!👋🏻👋🏻
Matthew grew up in Arlington Heights and attended college at Augustana College in Rock Island,IL.Fun fact he was recruited to play volleyball there and was apart of Augustana’s first ever men’s volleyball team.
Matthew is a very easygoing and kind person who the dogs he has met so far have taken a liking to him right away. He grew up with dogs his whole life; His family owned a yellow lab named Daisy grown up. Currently Matthew doesn’t own a dog but often helps take care of his sister’s Bernese Mountain Dog, Willow.
Matthew is currently coaching the women’s volleyball team at Judson University.
In his spare time aside from coaching he will be assisting with the dogs that may need walks and dogs at our house that are visiting for overnights or daycare. He will also be our new social media manager.
So make sure to follow Mutts In A Rutt on Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat to keep updated on all of our latest news and see some cute furry friends.
We are very lucky to have Matthew apart of our pack.
Life would be quite ruff without these furry friends around! Happy Friday everyone! 🐶💟

Hudson Moves On! Thanks to Everyone that has voted so far and continues to vote!
If Hudson is to win it will help me tremendously pay for his medical bills and his surgery! Being that liver shunts are congenital genetic defect, Conditions like these are ones that more breeders and dog owners need to be aware of. So having a platform like America's Favorite Pet would help spread so much more awareness.
Voting starts back up on the 11th!
He needs to place 1st from here on out!
Hey Pack! Happy Friday, I hope everyone is Looking forward to the beautiful weather we are expected to get this weekend. 🌞
As many of you know Hudson,my baby boy, was diagnosed with a liver shunt in December.
To everyone who has donated to his , I can’t thank you enough! It brings me to tears seeing the support Hudson and I received.
Being the person I am , I have a really hard time asking for help. But the situation with Hudson I knew I was going to need the support from my community. No one should have to go through this with their beloved furry family members. Nor would I ever want any of you to go through this type of emotional and financial stress.
So I am asking again for help. I signed Hudson up for in which the winner gets 10k and is featured on the cover of . If anyone and everybody can go vote for Hudson. You get a free vote every 24 hours. It only takes about 30 seconds out of your day but will help tremendously.
Not only will the prize help financially with Hudson’s medical bills but I would love to use him as a way to spread awareness about liver shunts. Bringing awareness in how to prevent them, since they can be prevented, and symptoms of a shunt.
Thank you all again for the continued support. The link to vote is in my profile as well as below.

The last picture is a lovely art piece of Hudson and his brother Goose. Goose also has a liver shunt and just went through surgery this week to repair it. Goose is recovering great from surgery. So it gives me hope when it’s Hudson turn he will be the same.
WOW….Words can not describe the feeling I have right now. All the support from you all the past couple of days…. I am crying writing this with tears of joy and shock.
In just 5 days, thanks to you all, family and friends, Hudson’s GoFundMe is almost 1/2 way to our Goal to help with his medical expenses.
These past couple of weeks have been tough. These past couple of days has shown me the love and support from many.
From the bottom of our hearts THANK YOU! Hudson is getting a chance to live the life he deserves. He will soon get to run around and play with all his friends like a normal dog. 🥰❤️
We are almost 1/2 way there thanks to you all!

Over the last year I have not posted much on here. 2023 well to put it mildly was a bit of a challenging year. My heath slowly started to decline for the past year and a half. Most days the only thing that would get me out of bed was your dogs. Your dogs bring so much joy to my life. When I felt like the world was just knocking me down your dogs were there for me. I did my best to keep up with running business as normal but things feel behind. Late this summer I was diagnosed with auto immune diseases. Now that I am on proper medication and treatment, I feel back to my normal self.
Most of you know I was short staffed for awhile but by the grace of God, Nef showed up. She has been amazing and extremely thankful for her and Marissa. Things were shaping up to end 2023 well. But it wasn’t over.
As some of you know Derrick and I got a new puppy, Hudson, late September. I was going to train him to be my service dog but we got some unfortunate news last Wednesday. Hudson has been sick since day 1 of bringing him home. After endless vet appointments and er visits, Thursday we finally got answers.Hudson has been diagnosed with a liver shunt at 4 months old. He has a long road ahead of him with surgery, diet change, medication and blood work every two months. After surgery he should live a normal life.
As most of you know how expensive this can all be… Hudson’s care in the first year of his life will be around 15k. Now I am not a person to ask for help. But with this situation I know I need a community of support. I started a gofundme page to raise money for his medical bills. If anyone one can share his link, donate and spread the world I would be grateful.
I started an instagram to help educate about his diagnosis.
Please 🙏 follow his journey and if you can help in any way possible.
His GoFundme link is https://gofund.me/e5fa269d
As well as the link is in our profile.
Thank everyone for being patience and understanding this year. You and your families truly mean the world to me.
Over the past 5 years, my boyfriend Derrick has been apart of my life. He has also been a huge part of all your dogs lives. Whether that is walking your dog, playing with them or spoiling them while they are staying over; your dog and you have probably met him.
On Sunday, to my surprise he got down on one knees and asked me to spend the rest of our lives together.
Here is to many more years together of spoiling all your furry family members that also call our home theirs.

IYKYK, trying to get a Newfoundland to stand during grooming is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack
It’s never easy to say goodbye to a dog that means a lot to me. Bella was one of the very first dog that I started to take care of when I started Mutts In A Rutt. She stuck with me through many transitions in my life. from starting my business out of my parents house, to me buying my own house to now the current house Derrick and I live in. Bella set the standard high for all the dogs I will ever care for. I love you Bella! I hope you are up in heaven running around with your green ball and red frisbee. Rest In Peace girl ❤️
I swear I did not have any peanut butter on my face. They are all just simply that happy to be around me in our home ❤️ #dogsofinstagram #goldenretriever #goldendoodlesofinstagram #labsofinstagram #doodlesofinstagram
Nellie has to be one of the biggest transformations I have seen since I have been training dogs. She came into training with leash reactivity, and much needed confidence around new places and people. Even though Nellie knew me before her training she got most of her confidence from her sister, Callie. So when Nellie was by herself at my house it took her 3 days to finally become comfortable with me. Now we are best friends after I gained her trust. Nellie in 2 weeks has very minimal reactivity on a leash now and is way more comfortable in unfamiliar situations. Between all the lessons we did with her owners during the board and train and the progress during sessions with me, Nellie is a much more confident dog. I cried tears of joy when I did her last take home this past weekend. Great job as well to her family with working so hard not only with Nellie but also her sister Callie. I’m so happy I was able to work with such a Devoted family to their dogs. I know that they will keep up with the training. Great Job Nellie, Callie and their family. ❤️

Willa is super food motivated which is amazing! In this exercise we are working how to work on impulse control and release words. Willa is put in a place command while her food is put in front of her. Usually Willa will go ahead and eat her food right away if you did not tell her to wait. This is the start of working on her impulse control. Whether that is chasing squirrels, chasing cars, or even reactivity towards dogs. This is the start to training your dog to control themselves on their instinct and wait till giving permission. The second part of this exercise is working on her release command. I train dogs with the release command of “all free”. I say different words in an excited tone to get dogs to understand that they are only released from the command until they hear those words, It’s very important to pick a word that is not thrown around a lot while talking such as “okay”. I also mark her behavior at the end when she is released with “yes”, that way she knows that she did a great job. Communication is very vital when training your dog. Whether that is verbal, body language or leash handling they all come into play when training a well balanced dog. #dogtrainersofinstagram #balancedtrainer #miniaussiesofinstagram #australianshepherd
