One of my favorite videos. 16-week-old puppy getting his nails trimmed for the first time with me. I can't emphasize more on the importance of introducing your puppy to a groomer asap!! Puppies are typically up to date on all shots by 14 weeks and a rabies at 16 weeks. A lot of new puppy owners are misled to believe that puppies don't need to go to the groomer until they need a haircut. Sadly, a lot of puppies we see for the first time are 6 months old already or older. At that age they are in a fear stage and are very fearful of pretty much everything. So introducing them to the groomer at that age could be very damaging to their grooming experience for the rest of their life if it is not a good experience. This is why it is extremely important to get your puppies to the groomer asap!!
I like to do a first puppy visit at 14-16 weeks old this visit involves a nail trim, a quick bath, blow dry, little face trim, and foot trim if needed. Typically these appointments take about an hour. Quick and easy! A good introduction to grooming. I suggest booking your puppies every 4 to 6 weeks to get them acclimated to the grooming experience.
There is a lot of misconception around the word "Pet Grooming". I have heard this one too many times "My dog/puppy doesn't need to go to the groomer because they don't need a haircut." We pet groomers do so much more than just haircuts. Pet Grooming is what's required for a breed. A smooth coated Pointer that will never receive a haircut, can get a really good bath, de-shedding and a good nail trim and go home looking shiny and brand new. Or a dog with lots of hair such as a St. Barnard doesn't need a haircut could use a good bath and a good blowout to get out dead undercoat and maybe a light foot trim.
All breeds of dogs. Big, small, young, old, shaggy or not require some sort of pet grooming!! As a professional groomer, I recommend every 4 weeks, to maintain healthy skin and coat for less shedding and keep up with the nails. But und
