Horses Taught Me: The results can be disastrous when a horse in put in the wrong job. When the same horse is put in the right job, the results are extraordinary.

Horses Taught Me:
Imagine driving a car while standing up. Weight on your feet and having to shift your weight in order to press the accelerator. Your hands gripping the steering wheel. Creating inconsistent pressure on the steering column. Now imagine standing on one foot, driving over bumpy ground, while making a turn. Imagine how the pressure on the steering and accelerator and how difficult it would be to have a light and consistent contact. Now imagine that the steering column is made of leather and the dash board moves independently of the rest of the car. How many times a person would accidentally jerk or pull on the steering wheel? How many times a person would take their foot off the accelerator to balance? How can this person press the brakes while needing to stand on both feet?
Now go back to sitting down. It frees up the driver's hands and feet.
This is the importance of developing a Good Seat while riding a horse. A Good Seat frees up the rest of the body and removes the accidental jerks and kicks. Creating, not only better communication with the horse, a better relationship and better experience for the horse.

HORSES TAUGHT ME:
In a ring full of horses, dont wait for a opportunity to canter. Create your own opportunity and canter.

01/06/2021

My niche is Equestrian Fledglings. As a result, my horses sometimes forget how to canter.

Horses Taught Me:
Sometimes people have to pay for the actions of their predecessors.

Horses Taught Me:
Learning how to have a relationship with a horse helps us learn how to have better relationships with humans.

Horses Taught Me:
Sometimes, no matter how many times we are told how to do something, we don't learn it until we are tested.

Horses Taught Me:
To be a good Horseman, one needs know how to do things correctly, but more importantly one needs to know what to do when things go wrong.

Horses Taught Me:
In order to recognize abnormal, we must know what is normal.

Today's lesson - by focusing on a challenging pattern, one stops thinking about how to do rising trot and the rising trot becomes natural.

Watching this transformation was phenomenal!

Horses Taught Me:
In order to change the response I get, first I must change the request.

Once upon a time, on a farm not so far away, a farmer was bringing his horses in to eat. As he was bringing in one of the horses, a beautiful gray horse, another horse, a beautiful pinto came up behind them and tried to bite the gray horse in the butt. The farmer saw it coming and stopped the pinto from biting the gray. Once the gray horse was secured, he started to secure the pinto. Then a palamino tried to bite the pinto. Again the farmer stopped it. The gray horse asked the farmer, "why did you do that? The pinto was mean to me and deserved to get bit." The farmer replied, "It is my job to keep you all safe. Not just the ones who are nice."

Horses Taught Me:
One of the most important lessons is when scared, to not freeze, but keep thinking. If one can think, one can start to keep moving. By moving one can change the scary situation into something not so scary. One learns to respond with the correction action instead of react. The more often one can work their way through a scary situation, the less scary it becomes and the unknown becomes less scary.

Horses Taught Me: Sometimes we have to be strong for both ourselves and our horse. This is such a good lesson to teach kids and a great skill to have as a parent.

Horses Taught Me:
They don't give me excuses.
They are what they are. It is up to me to figure out the reasoning, to understand, to change in order to reach the desired goals.

12/13/2019

Horses Taught Me:
Sometimes a horse will make a preemptive attack simply because of fear of getting hurt by another horse who has established a behavioral pattern of picking on the first horse. It comes as a complete surprise to the second horse, leaving him to wonder why. With enough preemptive attacks the roles are reversed.

Horses Taught Me:
It is important to remember when horses do not have good footing, such as winter dishes out, deep mud, snow, ice, frozen uneven ground, and when the horse gets on good footing, sand in the arena, they get the Zoomies!

12/06/2019

Horses Taught Me:
Sometimes we have to allow them to do it their way instead of forcing them to do it our way. Especially when the end goal is more important than the path traveled.

10/15/2019

Horses Taught Me:
Learning is meant to be progressive. Learn and more on to the next.
What was ok in one lesson, is not ok in the next. Which means we must change in order to learn.

10/08/2019

Horses Taught Me:
It is scary to the horse when approached head on. When haltering or bridling, it is important to stand to the side as you put their halter/bridle on them. I can't tell you how many times I tell people this and yet they still think that they can do it standing directly in front of the horse AND when the horse is uncooperative, they blame the horse.

So should I train my horses to drop their heads into the halter/bridle so the people don't have to learn? No, because the next horses they meet won't have that training and that poor horse will be labeled bad.

Horses Taught Me:
To be the leader, one must expect to be challenged.
