Our hopes at this site are to help find more "forever" homes for the homeless pets the shelter houses. At this point we are using pictures of adoptable animals off the shelter's Petfinder page. Our hopes for the future are to be able to provide better pictures along with posti

ng the pictures of new incoming strays as well. Please understand that most animals are brought in as strays and there is no known history. It is best to bring your children to meet any potential adoption and required to bring currently owned dogs for a meet and greet with the dog you're looking to adopt. SHELTER LOCATION:

DIRECTIONS:
Exit #67 off the I-96 expressway. Go North on M66 for approximately 3 miles. Turn Right at the stop light onto David Highway (Right Way Carpet/Portland Credit Union will be on the corners.) Continue for a 1/2 mile, shelter is on the left or North side of road. There will be a road sign says Sparrow Dr and an Ionia County Animal Shelter sign which is blue. HOURS OF OPERATION:

•SATURDAY, SUNDAY AND MONDAY - Closed
•TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY - 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. To ensure ample time for proper adoption, no adoptions will be done after 5:15pm. We are closed for all National Holidays. ADOPTING A FRIEND:
PLEASE NOTE: They can only take cash, personal checks or money orders for any type of payment. Any animal that is surrendered by its owner and is adoptable will be available immediately once it has been updated on its vaccines including Rabies and has been spayed/neutered. All strays that come in will be held for 4 business days if it has no identification, and 7 days if it does (by state law) then will become available for adoption once it has been updated on its vaccines including Rabies and been spayed/neutered. An adoption application must be filled out and reviewed. Puppy Adoption: $160.00 All puppies will be current on age appropriate vaccines, wormed, microchipped and spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Dog Adoption: $160.00 All dogs will be current on age appropriate vaccines, heartworm tested, microchipped and spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Ionia County Residents will also purchase a 1 yr dog license for $10 which will be added to the adoption fee. Cat/Kitten Adoption: $60.00 All cats will be current on age appropriate vaccines, wormed, spayed/neutered and microchipped prior to adoption.

Slater is a very young pup. We estimate him at about 10 months to 1 year old. He doesn’t have a whole lot of manners and will benefit from a firm, consistent trainer. He is good with other dogs, but is very overbearing, so a dog that is not easily offended and can give good corrections would be a huge benefit for him. He is good with kids (but jumpy). He has a lot of potential with the right owner. Patience is a must.

Yet again, Hobbs has been overlooked. This boy is ready to see the world and meet his new best friend. He is just a young pup at about 1 year old and has a lot to learn about manners and leash walking, but in a much calmer and more stimulating environment, we believe he will shine. He is good with other dogs and older children (as he can be a bit mouthy when over excited). He cannot be placed in a home with cats or other smaller animals as he has quite a high prey drive.

Cliff was returned to us due to no fault of his own. He is a 6 year old, hound mix. He is an amazing, laid back boy that loves his couches as much as he loves his walks. He’s good with other dogs but prefers females or non dominant males. He’s good with kids as well.

These loving pups came in, in poor condition. They spent at least the last month outside and were very emaciated. Despite all that, they haven't lost any spirit. They are both ready to spend their days on a couch in the warmth. They are NOT a bonded pair and can be adopted separately. They are both good with dogs and kids (although they may show some food aggression). They do not have any experience with cats.

Kevin is a boy willing to please. He is a lover and would love to be your new best friend. He came in as a stray and nobody came for him. We guess his age at around 1 year. He seem to do well with the dogs here at the shelter, but would likely chase a cat. We believe he would be good with children as well. He is up to date on all vaccines, microchipped and neutered.

Daisy was returned to us due to dog aggression. She is a 5-year-old, border collie mix. She is a sweet girl when it comes to her human but needs an experienced owner with knowledge on this kind of aggression, who will be willing to give her the proper training and time to work her aggression. She has experience with cats but will chase. She is good with kids, potty trained, and crate trained.

Bella needs you! She is a 2-year-old aussie mix, who is very under socialized. She is terrified here and is very ready to meet her forever family. She is very cautious of new people and can take a little while to warm up to people. She does well with going potty outside and does get the cutest, excited wiggles when we walk in the room to take her out. She is very skinny and has some skin issues. She will need an experience owner, who knows how to work with fear reactive dogs and help her build confidence.

Adopted!! Doc ❤️ Doc is a German Shepherd pup that is looking for a home. He is just under a year old. He came from a neglectful situation. 😔 He was very underweight and under socialized. He still has a lot of learning and growing to do but is very people friendly. He is good with other dogs and older kids. He will need a family that can dedicate time to his training and socializing. ❤️ He has a ton of potential!!!
