Highlighting the varnishing effects m on the cover of the soon-to-be-here picture book “Counting Winter”, written by Nancy White Carlstorm, illustrated by me with @eerdmansyoungreaders @hollyhooverart @amybpolkadot ❄️Out September 25th!
It was a windy morning for a statue unveiling at the The Ranshaw House in North Liberty, IA today! Mosaic artist Kelsi Lynch Art created a sparkling version of Herky, with detailing from my original illustration for Hills Bank and Trust Company Check it out locals! I love the placement of the corn 🌽 at hhis feet, very grounding for this Iowan.
A minute or so from my drawing board this afternoon, finishing up a tribute in scratchboard to Flaco, the Eurasian eagle-owl who captivated hearts during his life this past year, living in the 🌳 wilds of 🌳 of NYC (Central Park and surrounding urban scape). See the NYT nyt for in depth coverage about Flaco. His death may help path the way to new policies on city light pollution that pose many dangers for birds. What a beautiful creature, Flaco. #flaco #eurasianeagleowl #newyorkcity #scratchboard #scraperboard #claudiamcgeheeillustration #drmartindyes #beampaints #nyt
It would have been really handy if they could have brought black bear friends for models;) #picturebookillustration #wip #minnesotahistoricalsocietypress #mollybethgriffin #claudiamcgeheeillustration #picturebookprocess #deerneighbors

I’m early this year! The calendar has dropped. 🗓️ ♥️ As an illustrator/author, it's always a joy to thread both word and picture together. For this year's 2024 calendar offering, I've incorporated a haiku poem and illustration that summon in each of the 12 months. I find haiku, a Japanese short form of poetry, energizing to write and I spontaneously come up with one on my walks. This year’s calendar title is even a haiku! It reflects how I feel about seasonal changes, that each month is a season in itself. Available now on my Etsy site (through my website, address in my bio above). The art is printed from original scratchboard, ink and watercolor pieces, then hand-assembled. A local printer I work with here in Iowa City, Goodfellow Printing, helps perfect color and quality. A diminutive size-6.5" x 8"- I hope these will find a place in your home, or on your gift list for the coming holidays! A shout-out to @melissa_arp for helping me style the calendar photos in her beautiful home!
