Jake
Jake came to us because “he’s an a$$hole but we love him”🤭. His family hasn’t had him for very long, and apparently he came from really crappy circumstances. Jake is very fearful, aggressive, and his go-to response is to come at you like banshee, teeth first! He is a biter, and has went after his people numerous times. He’s been used to being left TF alone and do whatever he wants. They could not put a collar on him without getting bitten…they could not put a halter on him without getting bitten…they could not touch him without getting bitten…and they SURE as hell couldn’t pick him up without him coming in for the kill!
Sometimes ‘training’ takes a back seat, until the dog is truly able to listen. We’ve been working hard on changing Jake’s mind about people, and helping he see that we don’t all suck! It makes me so happy to literally watch this little dude change day-by-day to a much more stable and happy frame of mind, and to see that shell break away to reveal the dog he truly is!♥️
At one point in this clip I accidentally “hurt” him, and his response was awesome!!! Way to go Jake! You are on your way to a MUCH happier life, little buddy!🥰

Hans just finished up his training program with us and is on his way to a MUCH better mindset and life! This dude was over-the-top anxious, demanding and just a brat! With some guidance, and clear communication on what is and is not acceptable, he will be in a much better place mentally, and he has humans who are committed to putting in the work to help him navigate this world!

Tia
Tia just finished up her program with us, and she’s on her way to success, with the help of her humans! This was one of the most energetic and hyperactive dogs I’ve seen in a while! In fact, two weeks before her program started, her owners called me and were considering rehoming her. She’s come a long way, and her humans are committed to keeping her in check and on track!

What happens when you hire someone who calls themselves a dog trainer, then tells you to IGNORE your high-drive working dog’s bad behavior?? THIS!! You get a nervy, anxious, demanding, out-of-control dog that you have a HORRIBLE relationship with! Ignoring behavior teaches NOTHING.
Y’all hear me talk “relationship” a TON. This is what I mean. The relationship this dog currently has with his humans is completely destroying this dogs mental status. This is his behavior every time he is dropped off and picked up. You can see how completely different he is with me, because I establish our relationship right out of the shoot, by making it crystal clear to the dogs what is and is not acceptable/correct. I get a completely calm, easily controlled dog. This is why I say hiring a trainer is 10% us and 90% your daily interaction with your dog. Dog training isn’t always about training. We not only need to teach your dog good behaviors, but we also help you fix (or create!) the relationship you have with your dog and heal your dog’s mind!

As a dog trainer, I take the safety and well-being of my client’s dogs VERY seriously. Safety is of utmost importance to me, and I’m constantly thinking of various scenarios and every possibility to make sure that I have all safety precautions in place. I beat into my staffs heads, (and in fact having signs made for all doors) “watch toes and tails”. I even teach my people how to properly and safely go through doors with the dogs! So when YOU are the one that hurt someone’s dog, it’s devastating (to me, the dog will be fine!). A heavy steel door, opening to westerly winds at 40mph did NOT go in my favor! A bump on my head and, most likely, a couple stitches in Hank’s tail…thats how this afternoon went 😞. It just goes to show that no matter how well you prepare, poop can happen! And here’s the kicker….I JUST texted mom YESTERDAY with video because Hank just started limping. No rough housing, hasn’t even played with any of the other dogs at this point because it’s only day 2! Poor dude can’t catch a break! And he’s still just as happy to be here as he can be! 🥰

No Internet when I get in today, so no computer, no printer, no phones, no cameras. Get that fixed, only to have a lovely busted pipe! You know what they say that which doesn’t kill us… 
On today’s episode of how we do things, we are using the lovely little Beana as our model!
We’ve spent day one loading our clicker with dynamite, so that the ‘click’ sound means something.
You’ll notice that when I begin training, I “say” nothing to the dogs. However, I am speaking volumes. My goal is for the dog to create the behavior (sit, down, etc.) themselves. When a dog creates a behavior themselves, they are PROUD of that invention, and we now have a THINKING dog, and a thinking dog is ALWAYS a better trained dog. Our job then is to simply mark that behavior with a promise to pay (“click”) and reward their creativity and ingenuity. We can label that behavior at any time later.
In this last portion of the video, we’ve been working on the ‘sit’ behavior she has created. At this point, I’ve started labeling the behavior with a hand signal, which is still “telling” the dog to sit, just not verbally. (When I start to verbally name the behavior, I will say the word I choose at the same moment her little butt hits the ground. Thus, pairing the two together.)
In the first portion, we’ve already marked ‘sit’ and are now working on ‘down’. You’ll see in the beginning, she offers that sit, and I ignore. When she sees it doesn’t work, she does the cutest little butt-scootin’ sit to get my attention!💕 When THAT doesn’t work, she goes for the ‘down’ behavior she’s been working on all day and BINGO, correct answer kid!!
ANYTIME we train or teach our dogs something new, it should ALWAYS be fun, and we make a game of it!!

Niko!!!!! Niko came to us COMPLETELY out of control! His entire family was stressed out by him, and his little human didn’t want ANYTHING to do with him! He was a Houdini, he would bolt every chance he got, and was ALWAYS on. We helped him understand our world better and helped his state of mind so he could chill and be SO much less stressed! And we gave his family the tools and the skills to keep him on track and be successful!

Abbie the Sweet!
Sweet little Abbie! This little pup is smart as a whip, although she gives her family HECK! She came in pushy, nippy, jumpy…typical toddler! We gave her some guidance and structure, as well as helped her family get on track, and we know her humans will make sure it stays that way!

Demon Dog!
Jolie…oh Jolie. The Demon Dog! Let’s just say we were her last resort. Jolie is almost 6 YEARS OLD, so there are years of bad habits in there! She came to us VERY aggressive. In fact, she was enrolled in a boot camp program with a franchised dog training company, and within 4 hours her human was called to come get her! She has a few bites under her belt. This dog was no joke! She would lunge and literally try to attack people, she could NOT walk on a leash, she pulled like a monster truck, she couldn’t even be AROUND people! Aaaaand she spent the first week trying to find a way to eat my face. We were able to not only help her owner but her OWN state of mind. We helped build her confidence and helped her understand the world better. We’re super proud of how far this girl has come! And her human has the tools, the skills and the DETERMINATION to keep her on track and be successful! And we KNOW she will cuz she ain’t playing no more! Oh Jolie, if you only knew…you’re on your way to a MUCH happier and SO MUCH less stressful life, kiddo!🥰

Butters came to us with zero leash skills, zero impulse control, if you got anywhere near his face he would bite you, and he would lunge and bark aggressively at mail trucks, lawnmowers, and anything else that moves! We helped him understand how to navigate the world we live in properly, so he can live in harmony with his family!

We often get asked how we start training, what do we do, what does it consist of? Here’s a clip of a typical first day of training.
Everything we teach, we do so using Positive Reinforcement (INCLUDING e-collars or pinch collars!), and we make each task a game that the dog must figure out the answer to, rather than guide them into positions. By doing so, we get a THINKING dog, and a thinking dog is always a better trained dog!
