UPDATE: We have found a foster home for Jelly Shoe. Please watch for updates on her and her puppies. Thank you to everyone who offered to help.

We are in urgent need of a whelping foster home for a young dog that is expecting 4 or 5 puppies by the end of September.

Please meet Jelly Shoe, a 9 month old female Pit mix that was brought in a stray and not reclaimed. Jelly Shoe had been gaining weight and ultrasound confirmed that she indeed she is pregnant with 4 or 5 puppies.

You will provide a safe, indoor space where Jelly Shoe and her puppies will be kept separate from other animals and young children. You will need to house mom and puppies for 8 to 10 weeks at which point they will be available for adoption. HOPE covers all the costs of food and supplies and will provide any needed support and advice.

Please contact us at 906-932-1511 if you are able to help. This is a time sensitive need as we would like move Jelly Shoe into a home sooner than later so she can safely deliver her precious puppies.

Huge thanks to this wonderful crew from Xcel Energy for spending their time and energy with HOPE during their Day of Sharing 2025. We really appreciate all their help with power washing, brush and tree trimming, replacing ceiling tiles and lights, cleaning duct work and many other projects!!!

Looking for something to do this next Sunday morning? A quick walk in Miners Memorial Heritage Park (with or without your dog!) is a good way to start the day. $15 entry fee with some give away prizes will help the Dog Park pay for annual upkeep costs.

HOPE Animal Shelter was one of several organizations that benefited from the community service projects undertaken today by the God's Work, Our Hands volunteers from Psalm Shared Ministries from All Saints in Bessemer and Wakefield. Huge thanks for the truck load of donations and all the hard work clearing brush and walking/socializing dogs!!!
