🏈🐾 Want to get your pup out and about before the big game? Go for a walk! Here are a few tips to make sure you and your dog have a paws-itively amazing time:

🐕 Choose the right leash and collar –– a sturdy leash and a comfortable collar or harness work best. Remember, Irvine has a 6-foot leash law. Not using a long, retractable leash will help keep you, your dog, and others safe. If your pup pulls a lot, a front-clip harness can help with more control.

✋ Keep a relaxed grip –– walking should be fun for your dog. Give them enough leash to sniff all the fun things along your path. Shorten the leash if you’re avoiding other dogs or people. Tension on the leash can make your dog feel like they’re being "pulled" and may lead to pulling back.

🦴 Use positive reinforcement –– Reward your dog for walking nicely by your side! Treats or praise help reinforce good leash manners.

Not only will your dog love the fresh air and open space, but you'll get some exercise in too — before settling in to watch the game!

📸 Tag us in your walk photos and show off how you and your dog are enjoying Super Bowl Sunday at the Great Park!

🍽️🐾 Mealtime just got cuter.

We put cameras in the food bowls of some of our furry friends and captured some adorable moments. From the eager sniffs to the messy bites, it’s nothing short of slobber-iffic.

Meet the stars of today’s video at the Irvine Animal Care Center. Our weekday adoption hours are from noon to 5 p.m.

Pro Tip: A balanced diet is the foundation of your pet’s health and happiness. Keep them fueled with the best nutrition to support their tail-wagging, purr-filled adventures. Talk to your vet about the right food options for your pet.

🦷 February is Pet Dental Health Month!
Did you know that dental health is just as important for your pet as it is for you? Regular dental care can help prevent serious health issues, like gum disease, tooth loss, and even heart problems.

Here are some tips to keep your pet’s smile shining bright:
1. Brush their teeth regularly –– getting your pet used to brushing can make a huge difference. Start slow and use pet-friendly toothpaste.
2. Offer dental chews and toys –– chew toys and treats designed for dental health can help reduce plaque and tartar buildup.
3. Regular vet check-ups –– your vet can spot early signs of dental issues and give your pet’s teeth a professional cleaning.
4. Watch for signs of dental problems –– bad breath, yellow teeth, or difficulty eating could be signs of dental issues. If you notice anything unusual, schedule a vet visit as soon as possible.

Healthy teeth = happy pets!

🐶 Does your dog struggle with being left alone?

Dogs are social animals, so being alone can lead to separation-related problems like barking, chewing, or house soiling. In severe cases, this could be separation anxiety — a doggy panic attack.

What you can do:
• Start early training with short absences to help your dog adjust.
• Break up long days with a dog walker or doggy daycare.
• Keep your dog mentally and physically engaged with toys, games, and playtime.

If you're seeing signs of separation anxiety, it’s important to connect with your dog’s vet for help. With patience and the right approach, your dog can learn to feel secure and comfortable on their own.

Licensing your pet is more than just a tag—it’s their ticket home!

A pet license ensures that if your furry friend ever gets lost, they can be quickly reunited with you. It also helps support essential animal care services, including protecting public health and safety.

All dogs four months and older must wear a current license tag. Cat licenses are recommended but not required.

Licensing is easy, affordable, and shows you care about your pet’s well-being. Don't forget, it’s also required by law in the state of California.

Keep your pet safe and learn how to license your furry friend by and visiting cityofirvine.org/irvine-animal-care-center/licensing to learn more or click the link in our bio.
