Everyone meet K9! K9 belongs to our lead technician and ultrasonographer Jessica. His case shows the importance of ultrasound and early detection of disease.

K9 presented to VRPC for a sedated nail trim. While sedated, Jessica performed an abdominal ultrasound on him. Upon ultrasound, K9’s spleen appeared mottled (abnormally textured). Dr. Capps performed a fine needle aspirate of his spleen that was sent for further review. His cytology came back inconclusive. Blood work revealed K9 was also anemic. A few months later, abdominal ultrasound was repeated which revealed an even more mottled spleen. Due to K9’s familial history of hemangiosarcoma (a highly malignant cancer arising from cells that normally create blood vessels), it was decided the best course of action was to remove his spleen before more disease developed and/or spread. Dr. Capps performed his splenectomy and did find a mass on his spleen that was the cause of the changes seen on ultrasound. We are happy to report K9 made a full recovery and is doing well!

We are still offering $150.00 OFF a full abdominal ultrasound with report until the end of October (regular price $399.00)! Please call our clinic for more information, and get your fur babies scheduled today!

Ever wonder where the term Cats have 9 lives stemmed from?
An old Irish legend says that a witch could turn herself into a cat eight times, but on the ninth time she would remain a cat. This is the origin of the saying "A cat has nine lives".. Happy October everyone!!🎃🎃
