Thanks to a generous donation, this orphaned red squirrel has a safe place to nap while I work! He needs to be fed every couple of hours, so a cozy pouch on my hip keeps him warm and close while I get work done.

August Rehab Update!

I have still been answering calls like crazy, but the season is finally slowing down. HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who has supported Hickory Creek this season through donations and assistance with transportation! It’s incredible to be able to work with such a supportive community.

My oldest three raccoons just began their official soft release, and seeing them start to explore the world is absolutely amazing. I will continue providing them food and shelter throughout the fall to support their transition back to the wild. Eda, Speckle and Jupiter- good luck out there!

And just like that, baby skunks are ready for release! They’ve grown big enough to defend themselves and they show the appropriate reactions when approached by a threat to stay safe in the big world. It’s been an honor helping these little ones on their way🦨

In case you were wondering what a baby skunk drinking milk looks like....these two babies are part of a litter that was found on Cornell’s campus after their mom was hit by a car. They were picked up on Tuesday and have been settling in to their new home, where they will grow up and get stronger before being released!

Our first baby of the season is all grown up! This is Brussels, a juvenile Gray Squirrel that was found when his nest was destroyed at 3 weeks old. Today at 10 weeks old he went to another wonderful rehabilitator to prepare for release. My current focus is on Raccoons and Skunks, as they are in the most need of my help. There are very few facilities licensed to care for them in my area, and the calls are truly starting to flood in.

Welcome! I finally decided it was time to name my wildlife rescue operation and here we are. Hickory Creek is a seasonal stream behind my house that was my first introduction to animals in the wild. Now with your help I am able to work with injured and orphaned wildlife and help them get home! I will be posting animal updates and stories on this page so you can follow along and see what happens this upcoming rehab season! Thank you for following my journey!
