When Sarah Kopa, D.V.M. ’23, adopted Kate last year, the dog was eight months old – but lacked the energy of a normal puppy. Not too long before, the black Labrador retriever had been diagnosed with a liver shunt and had to be released from her guide dog training program. To Kate’s great fortu...

Officially passed the veterinary equivalent of a fundamentals of laparoscopic surgery training test! One step closer to offering this test here at Cornell. This skills test assesses proficiency over 5 laparoscopic tasks. All of the MIS fellows have to take it and I’m going to offer it here at Cornell for our residents and fellows and eventually outside clinicians too! Simulation training has been shown to improve patient outcomes and lessen surgery times. This is required training in human surgery and I am proud to offer it soon!

Amazing Vascular Interventional Radiology course given at the Weill Cornell SAIL (Simulation Acquisition and Innovation Laboratory) by Drs. Weisse and Berent. Met some wonderful veterinarians and was able to practice endo vascular IR techniques. Planning on bringing these models back to Cornell vet to help train students, interns and residents! We need more minimally invasive courses so that our pets can benefit from these procedures (did you know that liver shunts, liver tumors, prostatic and bladder tumors can all be treated through a vessel!!!) contact Dr. Buote at [email protected] to learn more about the MISL lab or to donate to help students and pets!!

With four cats and three dogs, the Collins household is a boisterous place. When one member of the family, a 16-year-old feline named Quinoa, became lethargic and dull, his owner Dr. Brian Collins immediately knew something was amiss with the domestic longhaired cat. “Something didn’t seem right...
