VCA Colonial Animal Hospital is a multi-specialty veterinary hospital located in Ithaca, New York. We are a progressive practice dedicated to quality veterinary medicine, patient care, and client service. The hospital is AAHA-accredited and a past Veterinary Economics Practice of Excellence. VCA Colonial Animal Hospital is committed to providing the latest medical and surgical diagnostics and trea

tments. We offer specialty services in surgery and radiology, including ultrasound, as well as acupuncture and rehabilitation services. We have a doctor in our hospital from 8 am until 10 pm every day of the year allowing us to see patients in a timely manner. Our hospital operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing care for our hospitalized patients and emergency service for established patients. We are supported by an experienced and dedicated staff of 45, including a team of NYS-licensed veterinary technicians.

Inky recently had a dental cleaning and lipoma excision by Dr. Tripp and the VCA Colonial team, and we are so happy to hear from his family that he's healing beautifully! ❤️ While he’s not a fan of the E-collar, his recovery is going wonderfully, and we couldn’t be more pleased with his progress.

A HUGE thank you to Inky's family for the kind words and for treating our team to the most delicious treats from Rashida Sawyer Bakery! Your thoughtful gesture means the world to us.

With her bubbly and self described goofy personality, Jasmine is sure to bring some sparkle to your visits. When she's not helping our furry friends, you can find her kayaking, white water rafting, or exploring the great outdoors with her fur baby, Beans. 🌊🐾 Jasmine is also a dedicated entrepreneur who travels to reptile shows, showcasing her work in leopard gecko genetics. She’s a proud mom to an amazing reptile family, including two hognose snakes—Toast and Pumpkin—and three ball pythons: Ghost, Malibu, and Sunrise. We have the most amazing clients and patients. Duke is being treated by our Oncology Service for lymphoma. He has successfully reached remission and completed his last chemotherapy treatment last week. He will continue to come in for monthly rechecks with our oncology team to closely monitor Duke. We are all celebrating Duke!

🎉 Happy 2nd birthday, Mochi! 🎂✨ Mochi came in for her wellness visit on October 14, and she brought along her 3½-year-old sibling, Auggie! Both are adorable Lapphunds, and they made quite the duo.

Dr. Tripp and Eli celebrated the special day by showering Mochi with lots of birthday treats, and Auggie joined in on the celebratory snacks! 🥳 Here’s to another year of tail wags and happy moments!

🐾Remember Bella the Brave Chihuahua? 🌟 This tiny but mighty Chihuahua came in for her follow-up with Dr. Ross today! At just 16 months old and not quite 6 pounds, Bella has already faced some big challenges.

After undergoing patella luxation surgery on both knees in the last 3 months, she’s doing AMAZING! The follow-up radiographs looked great, and Dr. Ross was able to remove the pins. 🎉

We’re so grateful to Bella’s wonderful family for surprising us with delicious treats and a lovely card—thank you! 💖 Here’s Bella with Dr. Ross and Surgery LVT Susan. We’re so proud of you, Bella! Keep shining bright! 🐶💕

🐾 Want to join this rewarding profession? Here’s how to become an LVT in New York:

Complete an Accredited Program: Start by enrolling in a veterinary technology program accredited by the Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA) to be valid. This will equip you with the essential skills and knowledge.

Gain Hands-On Experience: Practical experience is key! During your program, participate in internships or externships to develop your clinical skills under the guidance of experienced professionals.

Pass the National Exam: After completing your program, you’ll need to pass the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE). This exam tests your knowledge and competency in veterinary technology.

Apply for Licensure: Once you’ve passed the VTNE, you can apply for your LVT license through the New York State Education Department. Make sure to submit all required documentation and fees.

🐾 Meet Serenity, our dedicated specialty veterinary assistant in the surgery department! ✨ With a passion for animals and a strong academic background, she holds an Associates in Liberal Arts Math and Science and a Bachelors in Biology.

With over 5 years of experience in the veterinary field, Serenity began her journey in a small animal hospital in Manhattan before moving upstate to complete her degree in 2021. Since joining VCA Colonial Animal Hospital in 2023, she has continued to shine in her role while pursuing her dream of becoming a Veterinarian! 🌟
