PAAD: Promoting Animal ADoptions We are a group of volunteers working to Promote Animal ADoptions for the SPCA of Tompkins County (Ithaca, NY)

We are a group of volunteers working to Promote Animal ADoptions (PAAD) for the SPCA of Tompkins County (NY). The animals we feature on this page need a little extra boost for one reason or another. Some may have very specific requests for their new homes. Some have been waiting a long time to meet the right people. Some may have arrived at the TC SPCA with health problems, or with puppies or kitt

ens in tow, and needed extra time and care to be ready to join a family. Our goal is to show off these amazing animals with photos, videos, and information directly from the volunteers who hang out with them every week. Be sure to check out the SPCA's website for information about adopting a new pet and to see all the animals available for adoption: www.spcaonline.com/adopting-pets

Sweet Nora is celebrating with a delightful . This lovely young lady (not quite 1 year old) came to the SPCA of Tompkins County after moving up from the south. The people who found her as a stray in the south, realized she's not a good fit for their family. But she could be a good fit for yours!

Here's what we know about Nora so far - she has lived with other dogs and she LOVES to play with other dogs. She has also lived with cats and kids. Unfortunately, like a lot of dogs, cats are super fun for her to chase. Her volunteer friends say she is an amazing walker on the leash!

Want to meet Nora and see if your family is a match for her? Visit the SPCA adoption center Tuesday-Sunday: 12:00-4:30 PM or on Thursdays from 12:00-6:30 PM.

It's with June Bug! This super sweet 39-pound pup has loves to run and play. Juney B is eager to please and knows "sit", "down", "paw" and even "sit pretty" (although, we aren't super sure what her cue is for that last one, as she offers it up independently). June Bug is looking for a home with people who will enjoy her energetic play style and sweet nature! She did ok living with cats in a foster home. She doesn't like to share so living full-time with another doggy might not work. She's also learned that living with toddlers isn't for her, though older kids could be ok.

Want to meet June Bug and see if she's a match for your family? Visit our adoption center Tuesday-Sunday: 12:00-4:30 PM (Thursday: 12:00-6:30 PM)

Happy ! In honor of that bright yellow thing in the sky we haven't seen much of lately, here's lovable, yellow/orange Magmar! This cutie came to the SPCA of Tompkins County as a fearful, injured stray from Groton. Magmar was pretty scared when he first arrived, which is understandable since he was hurting. Now, he enjoys gentle pets and chin scratches. One of his new volunteer friends tells us that he was so happy to be petted, he rolled over to show his cute belly and allowed belly rubs! Amazing!

Magmar is FIV+ so he will need to go to a home without other cats or to a home with other FIV+ cats. If you'd like to meet Magmar, visit our adoption center Tuesday-Sunday: 12:00-4:30 PM (Thursday: 12:00-6:30 PM).

Wouldn't you like a lovely, dilute calico Azalea to brighten your home year-round? Just look at her cute tail curling into a question mark. She's probably wondering why someone hasn't snatched her up and taken her home yet!

Did you know February 15 is Singles Awareness Day? It's a day to celebrate how fabulous being single can be! We're using this day to celebrate 3 dogs who are also fabulous! Nala Gee, June Bug and Queen each want to be your one and only dog. So while it's tempting to think of taking home all 3 of these beautiful girls...don't. They wouldn't enjoy that. What they would enjoy is having a human or a family all to themselves. With the large amount of snuggles and love they each have to share, you won't need anyone else!

If you would like to meet one of them, stop by the SPCA during open hours:
Tuesday-Wednesday: noon-4:30 pm
Thursday: noon-6:30 pm
Friday-Sunday: noon-4:30 pm

After months of training, practice, and intense rivalries, the day has finally arrived. It's the ! The SPCA of Tompkins County has staged our own version of the puppy bowl with a litter of German Shepherd puppies. Unlike the Animal Planet's trademarked version of the Puppy Bowl, ours has fewer puppies and a much, much smaller production budget. 😁 Still adorable, though!

A few of these rookies have already been drafted by their new families. Congrats!

Not really into the energy and training young puppies need? No problem! The SPCA has several adult dogs looking for homes. www.spcaonline.com/dogs

You can stop by the SPCA during open hours to meet the dogs: Tuesday through Sunday, noon-4:30 pm, with extended hours on Thursdays until 6:30 pm. Contact them at 607-257-1822 ext. 221 or [email protected]

Happy ! Allow us to introduce you to Sir Malcolm. Don't let his impressive title intimidate you. He's probably more nervous meeting people than we are in meeting feline nobility. You won't see Sir Malcolm at the SPCA of Tompkins County adoption center. He was very scared when he arrived so he went to stay with a foster family to gain some confidence and get used to being around people. This approached worked! His foster family says,

"Sir Malcolm is an affectionate, gentle, shy, and handsome cat. It took a week in foster care for his personality to start to show, but now he is purring and making biscuits, chasing after toys, and has become quite a talkative cat. He will make some lucky person a fine companion."

Do you think you could be that lucky companion for Sir Malcolm? Check out his profile at www.spcaonline.com/cats and contact the Adoptions team if you'd like to know more about this sweet, handsome guy: 607-257-1822 ext. 221 or [email protected]

Happy to Benny! We're tempted to start singing "Benny and the Jets" but we don't want to disturb Benny's nap. 🤩 This handsome, friendly guy is a new addition to the Adoption Center at the SPCA of Tompkins County. His foster mom describes him as "twelve pounds of short-haired, black-and-white, ear-tipped, purring, cheek-rubbing, head-bunting, elevator-butt, flop-on-the-floor-and-show-his-belly love."

There's really nothing we can say to top that description! Stop by the SPCA during open hours to meet Benny: Tuesdays-Sundays, noon-4:30 pm, or until 6:30 pm on Thursdays.

Say hi to Buddy Jr for ! OK, so his tongue isn't out right now, because he's too busy showing off his ball. It's a very nice ball, Buddy Jr! This handsome guy came to the SPCA of Tompkins County when his people had some health issues and couldn't give him the care he needed. Jr. is polite and really good at sitting. Most of the time. If you get down to his level (such as sitting or squatting) his inner puppy takes over and he's ready to play! Buddy Jr is still learning his manners and hoping to find a committed person to help with that.

If you'd like to meet this lovable, goofy guy, stop by the SPCA during open hours:
Tuesday-Sunday: 12-4:30 (or Thursdays 12-6:30). You can also email the adoptions team to ask more about him: [email protected]

It's with rodents! In honor of we're celebrating wonderfully adorable rodents, namely, Gizmo and Flan! These young male guinea pigs are at the SPCA of Tompkins County looking for their new families. While they're in the same order and have roughly the same silhouette as groundhogs, guinea pigs are smaller, and generally cuddlier and easier to keep as pets. They also do not have the weather prognosticating reputation of groundhogs. Maybe that's a good thing. 🤔 Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning and predicts 6 more weeks of weather. We haven't asked Flan or Gizmo for their predictions. Maybe they'll have a different answer about how much more winter we have in store?

If you'd like to meet Flan and Gizmo, stop by the SPCA during open hours: Tuesdays-Sunday from noon-4:30, with extended hours on Thursdays until 6:30 pm.

Adopted!

It's a very sweet with Sweet Pea! This adorable teenage cat (aka a "catten") started her life outside in a local cat colony. She's now at the SPCA of Tompkins County adjusting to an indoor life with people. So far, we're a little weird and scary (we know), but she's getting used to us. Her new volunteer friends report that she enjoys being petted, and even rolls over to make biscuits!

If you'd like to meet Sweet Pea, stop by the SPCA during open hours: Tuesday-Sunday from noon-4:30 pm, or until 6:30 pm on Thursdays.
