PAAD: Promoting Animal ADoptions We are a group of volunteers working to Promote Animal ADoptions for the SPCA of Tompkins County (Ithaca, NY)

We are a group of volunteers working to Promote Animal ADoptions (PAAD) for the SPCA of Tompkins County (NY). The animals we feature on this page need a little extra boost for one reason or another. Some may have very specific requests for their new homes. Some have been waiting a long time to meet the right people. Some may have arrived at the TC SPCA with health problems, or with puppies or kitt

ens in tow, and needed extra time and care to be ready to join a family. Our goal is to show off these amazing animals with photos, videos, and information directly from the volunteers who hang out with them every week. Be sure to check out the SPCA's website for information about adopting a new pet and to see all the animals available for adoption: www.spcaonline.com/adopting-pets

is also ! As we mentioned yesterday, November is , so allow us to introduce Twyla! This sweet lady is estimated to be 10 years young and has had a tough time lately. She was abandoned by her owners and came to the SPCA of Tompkins County underweight but still so lovely! She's been becoming more healthy and gaining weight. Her medical team tells us Twyla absolutely loves cheese!🧀

Twyla would love to find her retirement home, a loving place where she can cozy up in her favorite spot and enjoy time with her humans. But just because she's a senior dog doesn't mean Twyla isn't up for fun. Check out her rolling in the yard style! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJ2gK5aKl8s

If you have a soft spot for senior doggos and would like to provide this good girl a soft place to land, stop by the adoption center Wednesday-Sunday 12-4:30 (Thursday 12-6:30). Twyla has been spending some time in a foster home, so she might not be in the shelter when you stop by. But talk to our Adoptions team about her! You can also contact them at [email protected] or 607-257-1822 x221 (answered only during open hours).

It's and the first day of Adopt A Senior Pet Month, so it's the perfect day to showcase Pearl! This beautiful lady is 12 years young and a total sweetheart! She loves pets and sitting on laps. Pearl came to the SPCA of Tompkins County when her previous owner recognized they weren't able to meet her medical needs as an older kitty. Pearl recently had several ouchy teeth removed and is feeling much better about that.

If you need a soft, fluffy kitty to warm your lap - and your heart - come meet Pearl! She will be accepting visitors Wednesday-Sunday 12-4:30 (Thursday 12-6:30.

Happy Halloween! Queen has decided to dress up as things people really seem to love, so maybe they'll love her, too! Queen is definitely hoping for a treat this Halloween ... like getting adopted! Next week will be her 1 year anniversary of being at the SPCA of Tompkins County. We'd all love for her to be in a home of her own instead of marking that anniversary with her.

If you'd like to meet this very popular, sweetheart of a dog, stop by the SPCA during open hours: Wednesday-Sunday, noon-4:30 pm (Thursdays are noon-6:30 pm).

Of course we have to feature this kitten named Sister Whiskerton for ! Those are some striking whiskers on this little one! Sister Whiskerton is just 2 months old and ready to be adopted from the SPCA of Tompkins County. She's been spayed, microchipped, and had the shots she can have at this age.

If you're looking for a wee little kitten, stop by the SPCA adoption center during open hours: Wednesday-Sunday, noon-4:30 pm. There are extended hours on Thursday, from noon-6:30 pm. We can't promise Sister Whiskerton here will be waiting when you get there, though. Kittens tend to fly out the door on a regular basis! But there will be another kitten or catten (older kitten) looking for a home who is equally adorable! We're just sure of it!

No tricks just treats with sweet Dolce! All she wants is to hang out with people, chew on her nylabones, and play with toys.
This friendly lady is ready to be the pot of gold at the end of someone's rainbow. Could that be you?

Dolce came to the SPCA of Tompkins County as a stray, so we don't know her history and are unsure how she'll do in a home with cats or kids. If you already have a dog, our adoptions team can set up a meet-and-greet to see how they get along! Want to meet Dolce? Visit our adoption center Wednesday-Sunday: 12:00-4:30 PM (Thursday: 12:00-6:30 PM).

October 27 is an auspicious day. It's National Black Cat Day! (Not to be confused with Black Cat Appreciation Day which is in August.) The SPCA of Tompkins County happens to have several black cats currently available for adoption, so if you don't already live with a mini house panther (or you want more black cats in your life!), check out these wonderful, elegant felines! You can stop by and visit them Wednesday-Sunday, from noon-4:30 pm. They're open extended hours on Thursday, from noon-6:30 pm.

It's National Pit Bull Awareness Day! This day was established to appreciate the delightful doggos we call pit bulls (or pitties or pibbles) and counteract some of the negative stereotypes about them. Some might look at the dogs pictured here and say they're pit bulls. Officially they're listed as "mixed breed" on the SPCA website. (We don't know which breeds. If you adopt one of them you could do a doggy DNA test and find out!) Let's just say these sweethearts are pit bull adjacent or "pitty-ish".

But we don't want to focus on the noun. We'd rather focus on adjectives! Every dog is unique, and to find the dog who is the right fit for you and your family, look beyond the labels to focus on the verbs or the adjectives: playful, friendly, affectionate, curious, zooming, playing, snuggling.

If you'd like to learn more about any of these sweet dogs, stop by the SPCA of Tompkins County during open hours: Wednesday-Sunday, nooon-4:30 pm or Thursday from noon-6:30 pm.

Jupiter is here to say "Happy Whisker Wednesday!" This handsome dude is just 8 years young. His friends describe him as a sweetheart who will happily accept pets and scritches.

Jupiter has lived with other cats as well as dogs, although we don't know how he felt about them. If you have other pets in the home, our adoptions team can provide information to facilitate a slow and thoughtful introduction. We don't have any history with kids, so please bring the kiddos along when you come to meet him. If you think Jupiter might be a match for your family, stop by the adoption center Wednesday-Sunday 12-4:30 (Thursday 12-6:30).

Happy from lovely, adorable and loving Queen! This awesome dog is creeping up on her 1 year anniversary of being at the SPCA of Tompkins County. We're all hoping she can miss that benchmark by being adopted before November 7. You can help by sharing this post so lots of people can learn about Queen. We know her perfect person/family is out there!

Queen does have specific needs that make finding her a home a little more difficult. She can't live with other dogs, cats, or small children. Surely there's a person somewhere who doesn't have other pets and who needs a cuddle buddy and goofy, loyal companion to make them smile!

Check out Queen's recent press to learn more:
https://607newsnow.com/news/258852-a-home-fit-for-queen-loyal-companion-in-search-of-family/

Queen is available for interviews at the SPCA Adoption Center Wednesday-Sunday noon-4:30 pm. Or on Thursdays with extended hours, noon-6:30 pm.

Greetings from another sunny and Mr Kirby welcomes you to a romp in the yard 😊. This handsome 2-year old loves being outdoors where he can chew toys and roll around to his hearts content. He might be a tad shy at first but once he gets to know you, he is all fun and all play!

We are unsure how Kirby might do with a doggie sibling so if you have a doggo at home, please reach out to our adoptions team and they can guide the process.

For today's post we'd like to talk about the health benefits of beans. We're not nutritionists, so we won't try to tell you how beans can fit into your diet. But we are experts on how (toe) beans can benefit your mental and emotional health. Just look at these adorable black beans! Don't you feel better already? You almost can't help but smile when you see beans like this. If you have beans applied to yourself, especially when in your lap and in the form of biscuits, your stress level reduces, your blood pressure lowers, and your mood elevates. We don't recommend adding rice or salsa to these black beans. That's just gross!

These particular black beans belong to Pawla and can be found at the SPCA of Tompkins County. They're likely on a shelf, though could be on the floor. Pawla is a total sweetheart! She's all about the headbutts, pettings and scritches. But go slow, as she can be a bit shy. Do you want to add some black (toe) beans to your life? Stop by the SPCA to meet Pawla! The shelter is open Wednesday-Sunday, from noon-4:30 pm, or until 6:30 pm on Thursdays.

It's a with Walnut! If you think this cat looks familiar that's understandable. We featured his brother and close look-alike Truffle a few weeks ago. (Hint: Truffle wears a white "locket" on his chest and Walnut does not.) Walnut - and his BFF Truffle - came from a home with too many cats. Leaving his home was a big change for this sweet, shy guy and he's spent a lot of time safely on a shelf. The floor might be lava! Walnut is still nervous sometimes, especially with sudden, loud noises or too much activity, but both he and Truffle have been becoming more and more social and confident as time goes by. Walnut enjoys scritches and will rub against legs to get your attention. His friends tell us he has a great head boop and loves to chat with people!

Walnut is looking for a quiet home with people who will give him time to get used to change at his own pace. He really relies on his brother/BFF Truffle for comfort and support, so would probably like a kitty friend in his new home. Or hey, you could adopt both boys and have a matching set of handsome tabby boys!

You can meet Walnut (and Truffle) during open hours at the SPCA:
Wednesday-Sunday, noon-4:30, or from noon-6:30 on Thursdays.
