PAAD: Promoting Animal ADoptions We are a group of volunteers working to Promote Animal ADoptions for the SPCA of Tompkins County (Ithaca, NY)

We are a group of volunteers working to Promote Animal ADoptions (PAAD) for the SPCA of Tompkins County (NY). The animals we feature on this page need a little extra boost for one reason or another. Some may have very specific requests for their new homes. Some have been waiting a long time to meet the right people. Some may have arrived at the TC SPCA with health problems, or with puppies or kitt

ens in tow, and needed extra time and care to be ready to join a family. Our goal is to show off these amazing animals with photos, videos, and information directly from the volunteers who hang out with them every week. Be sure to check out the SPCA's website for information about adopting a new pet and to see all the animals available for adoption: www.spcaonline.com/adopting-pets

Happy first of 2026! Do you have a to be more Zen about life? We have an excellent coach to help you achieve that goal: Slurms MacKenzie! This handsome, chill dude came to the SPCA of Tompkins County in October. He stayed in a foster home for a bit and has been in the Adoption Center where he's been making lots of friends! He's been described as sweet, affectionate, darling. In general just a really "good boi"!

Slurms is FIV+, which means that his immune system is more susceptible to things that another cat would brush off, and will require biannual wellness checkups.

If you're looking to add more mindful serenity to your life come meet Slurms! He's receiving visitors at the adoption center Wednesday-Sunday 12-4:30 (Thursday 12-6:30).

The SPCA of Tompkins County is closed today and Olive is ready for a quiet day to rest and relax. She's told her staff and volunteer friends (who came in on Christmas to make sure all the doggoes and kitties get the attention and food they need), that she had a busy night. It was a little hard to understand exactly what she was saying since she's rarely without a toy in her mouth, but it was something about helping out with some deliveries. ๐ŸคจIs she telling us she's one of the famous Other Reindeer?!? Olive was found as a stray in September so we don't know anything about her history. Maybe she was in the area doing some recon and got lost? Some kind people found her and let her stay with them for a few days. They had young kids who Olive enjoyed hanging out with. She's made lots of friends at the SPCA! But she's ready to have a family of her very own!

Are you looking for a sweet, friendly, goofy dog who enjoys her stuffy toys, going on long walks, and just relaxing? Stop by and meet Olive! The SPCA will be open for visitors Friday - Sunday, noon-4:30 pm. Next week they'll be open on New Years Eve from noon-3pm, and again Friday (1/2)-Sunday (1/4), noon-4:30 pm.

Happy Winter Solstice! We've developed a sad little tradition here on the PAAD page. A solstice occurs and we use the day to promote Queen. It started with an adorable summery photo of her in 2023. She was still waiting for a home in winter of 2023, so we featured her again. Then she was adopted - yay! Unfortunately, her person developed health problems and couldn't care for Queen anymore. She returned to the SPCA of Tompkins County to find another home. That was more than a year ago and she still waiting.

Queen is adorable, delightful, sweet, goofy, and snuggly! She's looking for a home where she can be the only pet. Cats are a little too fun for her to chase and she's socially awkward around other dogs. If there are older kids in the home who can recognize and respect when Queen is feeling uncomfortable and doesn't want to be touched, she'd like that. Once Queen bonds with you, you're hers for life. She has a fan club here at the shelter, but what she really wants is a forever family of her own!

If you'd like to meet Queen, stop by the SPCA Adoption Center during open hours: Wednesday-Sunday, noon-4:30 pm. You can also reach out to our Adoptions Team to ask about Queen: 607)257-1822 x221 or [email protected]

Please note, the Adoption Center will be closing at 3pm on Wed, 12/24 and 12/31, and will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

"Hi. My name's Forrest. I don't have a last name but I'd sure like to. Maybe you could adopt me and I could have your last name?"

Life might be like a box of chocolates...you never know what you're gonna get. But with Forrest you're sure to get an adorable, friendly kitty who loves a gentle scritch around the cheeks and head! Forrest came to the SPCA of Tompkins County in September but has only been hanging out in the Adoption Center for a few weeks. He was found as a stray cat with an injured leg. A kind person took him to the Cornell Vet hospital for treatment and eventually he made his way to the SPCA. His pesky, injured back leg has been removed, he's been released from the Cone of Shame and is ready to find a home and family of his own!

If you'd like to interview with Forrest and see if you're a match, stop by the SPCA Adoption Center during open hours: Wednesday-Sunday, noon-4:30 pm.

Please note: the SPCA will be closing at 3pm on Wednesday, 12/24 and will be closed to the public on Thursday, 12/25.

Meet Wallace! The SPCA of Tompkins County website lists Wallace as a "Terrier, Yorkshire/Mix". Yorkshire? No, keep going north. The volunteers running this page haven't met Wallace yet, so we can't say for certain, but we suspect that Wallace is actually a Highland Cow. Just look at that face! ๐Ÿฎ

Highland Cows (aka "coos" ) have had a surge in popularity in recent years. Afterall, they're adorable, silly looking, and reportedly fairly docile (for cattle). Perhaps some of the brilliant mind at Cornell University and/or Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine are milking this popularity (pun intended! ๐Ÿ˜„) and have developed a genetically engineered mini Highland Cow. Afterall, most of us don't have the space or resources to accommodate a real life coo. But a miniature version, that can live in our house, be potty-trained to do his business outside, and even get toted around in a large purse or bag? Yeah! Sign me up!!

If you'd like to meet Wallace and confirm or reject our theory that he's a mini Coo, stop by the SPCA Adoption Center during open hours: Wednesday-Sunday, noon-4:30 pm, or Thursday, noon-6:30 pm.

It's another cozy ! Last week we featured several lap cats who were at the SPCA of Tompkins County and looking for permanent laps to claim. Success! All of those kitties have since been adopted! If you're in need of a a furry friend to keep your lap warm this winter, fear not! There are still cats (and dogs) at the SPCA looking for laps to settle into, like Milchreis.

This sweet lady is just 8 years young, friendly, and yes, enjoys a good lap. As you can see from her profile photo, she wasted no time claiming the lap of a new friend. "You want to take my picture? Ok, let me just get comfy in your lap first."

If you'd like to interview with Milchreis to determine if your lap is acceptable to her, stop by the SPCA during open hours: Wedndesday-Sunday, noon-4:30 pm. They're also open extended hours on Thursday from noon-6:30 pm.
