4th Annual HSVMA Spay Day at Cornell
🩺Fourth Annual Spay Day at Cornell Helps Community Cats🐈
On Saturday, Feb. 11, the College of Veterinary Medicine hosted the Fourth Annual HSVMA Spay Day. With the support of Maddie’s ® Shelter Medicine Program faculty and staff, as well as veterinarians from across the college, veterinary students spayed or neutered 50 cats owned by members of the greater Ithaca community.
This is an entirely student-organized event, supervised by college faculty. Organizers included Emily Bono, Alyssa Cote, Danielle Ferriola, Younjin Han, Remy Kuck, Ambrielle Machuca, Casey McCabe and Faith Slubowski.

Meet Logan & Rushmore: Two resilient cats ready for their for...
Shy kitties, kitties rescued from hoarding cases, and even those with medical needs are still valued, loving and adoptable animals. Logan and Rushmore are two examples of such kitties. Watch this video below to learn a little more about them. #thankstomaddie
This is Mia. She came to our local shelter with a severe radiant heat burn covering her entire back in December of 2014. With the help of Cornell Dermatology, our Shelter Med program, medication, and loving foster care with a veterinary student, she has healed to the point of being ready for adoption. She still wears a thundershirt to keep her from overgrooming while her hair grows in -- which we thinks just adds to her cuteness. Score another victory for shelter med in action.
Our program's collaboration with local shelters like the SPCA of Tompkins County and Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA, Inc. allows us to help animals in need while training veterinarians in the challenges of shelter medicine and offering quality primary care in the shelter setting. We can even provide dental care when it is badly needed!! Here is the direct beneficiary of a recent procedure (note the shaved spots for pain patches), adopted and well-loved, sporting "more toes than teeth." Thanks Dr. Goldberg for taking him home and loving him as much as we do!
