Fastest catch on a Red Squirrel happened today in my home town! Started out as a scratching noise call in a wall. I found the crawl space entrance door was pushed open close to that wall. Customer called yesterday about 10 minutes after I set up traps that she spotted the culprit run from a walnut tree to her house. I said it’s ok we can catch him. She and I were really surprised walking the trap line together today. So nice to finish a job within 24 hours!

Trapped this beautiful 27 pound Bobcat up north. Night before opening season I was invited on a farm to trap one they had been seeing. After checking out trail cam pics I decided to change counties. Caught just what I was after in 3 days. Tagged and sealed this old monarch and she is heading to the tanner!

Todays catch! Just finished a job in North Star today. Customers had scratching noises in their cieling and walls. Ended up catching 9 total and plugging up the entry points.

Opening day for Bobcat season is today in the area I trap. These 6 were from Georgia earlier this year. Still waiting results from the lab from last year’s Michigan Tom. Interested to see how old he was.

Retired Ohio DNR officer gave us permission this year to hunt his 83 acres at no charge. He said he raised his family from hunters like us and wanted to return the favor. As the season went along we figured out that 5 other people also was granted the same permission. The shanty in the sky nobody liked because it was 28’ in the air and 3/4 mile from the road. We had to cross a creek and walk up and over 2 steep ravines to get to it. Wanting to hold out for a bigger buck libbi passed this buck the first day then decided to take it on her last hunt of the year down there. Owner was happy for us. He said he worked all his life to make sure everyone followed the rules and enjoyed congratulating hunters on their success.

Trail cam pictures make a difference. I wasn’t going to go hunting in Ohio this year. Then 5 days before gun season this buck showed up. I thought should I pass him or should I hunt him. I decided to buy a license!

Venison jerky right out of the smoker is my favorite. If you really know me you know. I love making jerky. When it’s cool nights like this the smoke fills the pole barn. I can’t wait to trade my jerky for some homemade peanut brittle!

My opening day buck surprised me walking through the woods chasing a doe. I shot once and it jumped the fence over to the neighbors and dropped 30 yards away. Neighbor was happy for me and gave me permission to go get it. We wished each other good luck and he shot a even bigger one little later in the morning.

A record 47 deer were brought in this year on opening day of firearm season at the Gratiot County Big Buck Pole. The event raised $4100 for the Hero’s Center of Gratiot County! The meat willl feed hundreds of people throughout the state. Thanks to the organizers and The Pins Bar and Grille for hosting the event.

One of the biggest events of the year hunters look forward to is a good buck pole. Over 100 people will celebrate their harvest and have a picture taking today of their success. Amazing how organized everyone is. Hats off to all the volunteers that make it happen!

Another scratching noise in the cieling call came in yesterday. This one was a little different but with the same results. I set up a camera and traps with my service call. Customer texted when my husband came home he about flipped when she told him what I charge. My rates vary on how far away I have to travel and the number of animals I catch. This job was 80 miles one way. I caught the mice that was scratching within 24 hours. She said maybe next time when I tell him I’m hearing noises he will do something about it!

Todays pass is a nice 8 point. Most people would probably shoot. But when I looked at it I thought of my neighbor last year shooting that 10 point way outside its ears. Now that could be this buck next year only maybe even taller!

This buck walked right under my stand tonight!

Hunting buddy!

My hunting buddy arrowed 2 dandy 8 pointers last night on her first bow hunt of the year. One weighed 189 and the other 185! They fell within 5 yards of each other.

Skunks

Caught 3 Skunks on this farm today. The customer and her flock of Sheep were happy to see them go.

Caught the very elusive female Red Squirrel today going out of the home it was living in. So thankful for the patience and the excitement my customer has. We never did get a picture what it was but we could hear her in the walls.

Puppy

The last one nobody wanted is sold to a family the farthest away than the rest. She is going to live in West Virginia. I was thinking about keeping her but 10 days ago our 11 year old ran off after something and never came back. I thought I seen her this morning and I called her name again but it wasn’t our girl. Not ready to keep a puppy right now but sure am glad we have the memories!

Figured out by looking at several pictures that it was a dog after all on a leash at this job site yesterday. But this bore opossum took the bait last night!

They say 3 times is a charm! It all came together tonight. It was just a matter of time when I knew I would catch him. Big thanks for my customers for being patient. We caught the smartest Ground Mole in town!!
