If a community cat is sick or injured, the best-case scenario is to treat her in her outdoor home, or to return her there as quickly as possible. Any treatment for a community cat should be as easy and non-invasive as possible to minimize further stress. 🐈

Why are shelters and rescues always full when you turn to them for help? 😫

It's simple math:
The amount of animals needing assistance FAR SURPASSES the amount of organizations trying to help.

The overpopulation crisis can be overwhelming, but the good news is that the suffering and deaths of homeless animals is ✨100% PREVENTABLE✨ through spaying and neutering.

Despite recommendations and urgings from nonprofit groups, veterinarians, and public shelters and a growing number of free and low-cost spay/neuter clinics, many people still fail to provide their animal companions with this routine, lifesaving medical procedure.

HOW CAN INDIVIDUALS HELP?
✅ Educate with spay/neuter and TNR information; assist folks if you can!
✅ Foster, if you are able, to free up more space within shelters and rescues.
✅ Find out how to participate in TNR in your community. Even one kitty at a time helps tremendously!
✅ Spay and neuter ALL of your companion animals.
✅ Adopt from reputable shelters and rescues. Not only are you saving that life, but you are opening up a spot for them to intake another animal in need.
❌ Don't hand out free, unaltered cats/kittens without an adoption process.
❌ Don't acquire free, unaltered cats/kittens unless you know you can afford to have them vetted.

‼️Finding a scared cat outdoors does not automatically mean it's feral‼️
"Feral" is based on the lack of human interaction the cat has encountered in its lifetime.

A stray cat is a pet who has been lost or abandoned and is used to contact with people. If they've been outside on their own for a while it will cause them to be scared or untrusting around new people. A stray cat left alone long enough can revert to a feral state. A feral cat is the offspring of stray or other feral cats and has had no human contact. True feral cats are usually too fearful to be handled or adopted.

Stray cats may be reunited with their families or adopted by new families, but feral cats will find it difficult or impossible to adapt to living as pets in close contact with people. But that doesn't mean there aren't things you can do to improve feral cats' health and quality of life.

TNR is so important to improving the lives of both unowned stray and feral cats. The whole point of TNR is stop the reproduction of outdoor cats to stop new kittens from entering the feral life.
