It is with sadness in our hearts that we will have to let Big Girl cross the bridge today. At 38 years old, Big Girl has lived life to the fullest. She has spent the last 20 years on this ranch, long before we bought it. She’s gorgeous with soft eyes, a kind heart, and one best friend we call Hailey.

Hailey and the rest of us will greatly miss you Momma, see you down the road.

During World War II, the Coast Guard Beach Patrol played a crucial role in protecting more than 3,700 miles of coastline. Around 24,000 men were enlisted to serve in these patrols, which operated on horseback. Working in pairs, they maintained a distance of approximately 100 feet from each other while effectively patrolling a 2-mile stretch. Referred to as "Sand Pounders," these highly skilled individuals demonstrated exceptional speed and efficiency as they navigated through difficult terrains. This historical account can be traced back to the year 1945.

TODAY IS OPENING DAY OF HURRICANE SEASON! PLEASE HAVE A PLAN!!!

We would like to extend an open invitation to any equine, horse owners, rescues or boarding facilities in the coastal Alabama, Mississippi or Louisiana areas. We have an empty barn that has 21 available stalls. It needs a little work, but can and has housed our horses in the recent past. We can assist in the moving/evacuation of your animals prior to the storm, but may have limited trucks and trailers if there are many to be moved.

We are located in the city limits of Jackson, Ms. There is a holiday inn express (not animal friendly, but has an indoor pool for the kids), other hotels and a Tractor supply within a ten minute drive from the barn into Byram, Ms. There are also restaurants, a Walmart, gas stations, and grocery stores nearby as well.

An active hurricane season is predicted, with the potential to be as bad or worse than the 2017 season. Have a plan!
Make contact with your “in the event of” folks and have the necessities easily accessible and packable. Don’t be caught unprepared or off guard.

Please send this to our coastal equine folks, so they know there IS somewhere to go, and somewhere that their horses will be safe! We hope that you will not need us this year, but know that we are here if you do!

VOLUNTEERS!!! If you have a truck, (horse) trailer, or both and would be willing to help in case someone needs to evacuate, please shoot us a message. We will add you to our list. Also, we will be having a volunteer work day later this month to work on the back barn and get it ready for this year. Message the page and someone will get in touch with you and you will be placed on our volunteer list!

We are so proud of our Emily/Little Bit and Abbey/Bennie teams from last weekend! Saturday, Abbey and Bennie ran a 15.4 in youth barrels and took first place! Friday, Emily and Little Bit ran a low 18, not bad for their second show on a 23ish year old horse. Great job y’all!!!

TIPSY UPDATE: Tipsy is doing great! He is loving his new feeding regime, but he has a long way to go and a lot of groceries to put down to get back up to proper weight. Christian Gonzalez came out and did a great job getting Tipsy’s feet back in shape. Emily, Trey and Tatum have started on his medicated bathes and daily applications on all of the spots of rain rot. We will schedule his first vet appointment this week and see whether he will be on the path of being ridden or another beautiful pasture pet. Thank you all for your likes, shares, and donations!

NEW RESCUE!!!

Saturday we were asked to take a look at a horse, and that the owner was willing to release the horse to the rescue.

Today during the storms, we finally had time to make it out and take a look at him. His hooves are in terrible condition, his mouth has an awful odor, and his skin has many places with hair loss and rain rot. He is under weight but we hope to get that fixed pretty quickly.

“Tipsy”, as he was previously named, hasn’t seen a farrier or vet in a few years. The farrier is on his way out to see him today and we will be scheduling his vet appointment soon. Tipsy will need a full medical rundown; coggins, vaccines, teeth, sheath cleaned, and a lameness test.

Thank you all for your support! Please like, share and donate to support Tipsy and others like him. You can make donations at the link below:
