Hi guys!! I am still on vacation, but I wanted to reiterate something.

❗WE DO NOT OFFER WALK INS❗

My boyfriend has experienced several people while I'm away coming to our house for walk in haircuts. We are APPOINTMENT ONLY. Even nail trims need to be semi-scheduled.

Please do not come to our house unannounced. When there is not a scheduled appointment going on, it is our private home and we would like to maintain this work/life balance. Our sign also says "Appointment Only".

This is going to be our last post until after our June 6-17 closure!

❗Currently, we are booked until June 28 with only 2 more weekend appointments before July 4. If you want to get your pet in before any 4th of July celebrations, now is the time to book❗

I will be updating my voicemail message to reflect this, but I would like to add here: if you call and do not leave a voicemail or text, I more than likely *will not* call you back due to spam calls. I do check numbers to see if it was from a current client and will call those back even if no message was left. But for new clients, please leave a message so I know you're not a scammer 🙂. Thank you!

And as for calling back, I am a one man business (my boyfriend helps, but he doesn't know how to schedule appointments or things like that), and I do not answer the phone when working on an animal unless it is the owner. I do try to call back same day, but sometimes when my appointments are back to back, it's hard to find time! Thank you for understanding.

Some videos for you!

For the first video, I walk you through how to bathe your own dog. Included are some tips on how to save on product, deshed some coat types in the bath, and how to safely wash their face. All products used were Tropiclean since this brand is very accessible and is great for home use (and professional!).

For the second video, there is no talking, but I instead show you how I professionally bathe the dogs using bathing aids such as the car wash nozzle and shampoo frothing bottle. These tools let me lather dogs a lot faster and significantly save on product since I am maximizing their dilution capabilities. I used Hyponic since that is the shampoo I use on the majority of dogs. I love the shampoo, but it is harder to come by for home use and definitely costs a lot more than Tropiclean. I do not brush Remy in the bath because his coat type doesn't benefit from it, in my experience.

Also, yes we will try to be better with the camera as we get more practice lol. These videos are more like practice runs and I don't have a proper recording setup yet☠️

Exciting news!!! We will be providing walk-in services at the Grand River Farmers Market again this year! We are so thankful for this opportunity and cannot wait.

We intend on being at the farmer's market every Friday. Unfortunately, this Friday we can only be there for a few hours due to preexisting appointments. There will be a few hiccups like that for the first few weeks, but we should be smooth sailing after that!

Because of how much support I've gotten from the community since opening in August 2023, I was able to treat myself and take it easy this week 😌.

So, not as much of a jam packed weekend as I usually have, but I got to have some fun taking a day trip in Lansing with my family.

Thank you for helping my business grow! Some other exciting news: we're preparing to have a mini-split installed in the salon just in time for summer so your pet will always be comfortable while in our care!

FINALLY we've had some nice, sunny days! The dogs and I have been enjoying the appointments with the door and window open.

In case you weren't aware, our location has a completely secured, dog-safe yard that your pups are more than okay to get their wiggles out or go potty in during or after their service! We make sure all plants in the area are nontoxic and we do not use any pesticides or fertilizers. My own dogs are part goat and have made sure to taste test every square inch of the yard for safety purposes 😛.

So, I just wanted to make a little PSA since I am seeing a very alarming trend on Instagram.

DISCLAIMER: THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANY GROOMERS IN THIS AREA. I haven't seen this trend yet from any salons claiming to be from Michigan at all. I just want to say something about it before I do see it here.

‼️ Some grooming salons around the country are now offering "sedative free dental cleanings" and this is both super illegal and super unsafe ‼️

In the US, it is completely illegal for a groomer to do any form of dental cleaning beyond just brushing teeth and using breath spray. For the most part, if something involves entering the body, it's a medical procedure and illegal for anyone without a veterinary license to do. This is why groomers can't do internal a**l gland expressions or deep ear cleanings.

Not only is this new trend illegal, it is super unsafe. I will attach a screenshot of a section from a VCA article stating why a poorly done dental cleaning is more harmful than no dental cleaning at all. But in general, it's because of these reasons:
▪️ Scaling the teeth without anesthesia only allows you to clean what you visibly see, even though what's under the gumline is actually the bigger concern
▪️ Because the dog is not sedated, they can suddenly move, making this an extremely high risk for injury service
▪️ Severe dental issues can cause life threatening infections that can quickly travel throughout the body because of how vascular the mouth is. Your groomer can't prescribe you antibiotics and they are not doing this in a sterile environment
▪️ Just because the dog isn't under anesthesia doesn't mean their body still isn't under huge amounts of stress. Severe dental disease is extremely painful, which means doing this with no sedatives or pain killers is likely very traumatizing for your dog. This type of stress can still cause a lot of damage to their body and create a medical emergency. Because this is not being done by vet professionals, there is no one there to monitor vitals and there is likely no life saving measures available beyond your groomer knowing CPR

I apologize making a post like this, but I'm quite frankly appalled by this trend and I just wanted to say something. I have not been asked by any clients if I offer this service, but in case you were wondering, now you know my answer 😉

🏵️Mickey's coat recovery journey!🏵️

I have been seeing Mickey every month since September.
❗To no fault of his family, he was previously shaved.❗
Since then, we have been trying to help his coat grow back as healthy as possible. I am so proud of his family's dedication to having a happy and healthy pup!

Unfortunately, there are some coat types that aren't supposed to be shaved. The consequences can range from fairly mild, cosmetic changes to life altering abilities to shed properly and regulate body temperature. Here are some side effects that can occur from shaving coats that shouldn't be:

▪️Coat grows back with a fine, wooly texture
▪️Coat color looks dull and washed out
▪️Coat doesn't grow back properly and possibly even develops clipper alopecia (permanent balding). Clipper alopecia is most commonly seen in Pomeranians and Golden Retrievers
▪️Coat can no longer shed correctly, leading to matting more often and more maintenance required
▪️Dog has a harder time staying cool in hot weather or warm in cold weather due to coat having improper texture and shed cycle

While these side effects can sometimes go away or lessen, usually the changes are overall permanent.

There are always going to be situations where shaving is the best option, such as severe matting or the dog's health or behavior makes it difficult to maintain their coat. But if you have a relatively healthy dog who is capable of tolerating basic coat maintenance, please consider the negative coat changes that are highly likely to happen before shaving them for the summer.

🚫 It is a complete myth that shaving a traditional double coated dog (such as Labs, Golden Retrievers, Huskies, German Shepherds, Pomeranians, etc.) will reduce shedding and help keep them cool! 🚫

Warmer weather is approaching . . . I've already had several clients tell me their dog is shedding like crazy!! I LOVE desheds, so hit me up if your dog is flooding your house with fur 😉.

If the last time your pup got a haircut was the holiday season, they are probably due for another one now. I am currently booked out close to a week (I have one spot left on Monday and then booked until next Thursday), and next weekend (3/2 and 3/3) is already 50% booked!

🌼🌸Olive had her first haircut today!🌸🌼
She tried very hard to be a good girl. It is very normal and expected for puppies to have a limited attention span. It is also normal for puppies to go through phases of fear, regression in training, or rebellion. Just remember that they are babies and they are experiencing rapid development. They go through the same amount of development in their first year of life as we do in our first 15-20 years!

⭐NAIL CAPS!⭐
This is something I've been considering since starting the business. I wanted to weigh the pros and cons. Nail caps are a humane option for pets whose nails cause damage to furniture or skin. The most common examples for their use are for cats who chronically scratch furniture and small dogs whose nails quickly become sharp again, even after a nail grinding.

They always want to book on my day off, all of their pets have long fur that takes forever to bathe, dry, and brush, and then they always want cute after pics but their pets are HORRIBLE at sitting still for the camera.

Oh, that client is me. I'm the one with pets that take forever to dry and brush and none of them are photogenic.

How a dog gets professionally bathed, featuring Remy the Alaskan Klee Kai/Pomeranian mix!

Wanna see the entire grooming process for a double coat bath and tidy (minus the bath 🙈)? Mickey is one of my favorites, and a monthly regular. Here you can watch his entire before and after! He doesn't get a full haircut, but I do shape up his backside since he doesn't let mom or dad brush it. In case you've ever wondered what a groomer uses, I attached a pic of all the tools and supplies I used on Mickey! 🚨Disclaimer: this dog is shaved per instructions by a veterinarian to help with allergies. Obviously if it's for a medical reason, groomers will gladly oblige🚨 Contrary to popular belief, shaving a double coated dog not only doesn't stop the shedding, it actually makes it worse. You might just think the dog isn't shedding as much anymore because the shed fur is shorter and much more likely to just impact and stay on them. Impacted fur and removing that top coat = hotter in the summer and colder in the winter because there isn't a good quality air pocket between the protective top coat and their skin anymore. So, save yourself the time and money and stop causing permanent damage to your dog's double coat by not shaving it! ✨Second disclaimer: Before someone asks "well what about wire coats and spaniels? Those are double coated and they're shaved all the time!" They are not traditional double coats. Their coats already don't shed naturally without human intervention via handstripping. So while shaving them isn't the best, most owners can't afford handstripping and most groomers don't offer the service. These coat types are less likely to develop clipper alopecia.
